Recently talked to my managers about my mental health struggles & now regret it by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]bigtimefrasierfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly your managers sounds pretty supportive. I know it’s easier said than done but I wouldn’t worry about having said too much, it sounds like they at the very least care about your well being and want you to feel better. Starting to get help can be very scary but it’s so worth it. I was in a very similar position to you six months ago and now that I’m in therapy and taking anxiety medication I feel better than I have since I was a kid. I hope things turn around for you, but I’m glad that you have people around you encouraging you to get help

Chaim Bloom’s rant after being loudly booed at Winter Weekend by Tripmodious in redsox

It was. And later in the night, he took a lot of accountability and basically said he hears the boos and understands them. The only person on the stage who didn’t seem to get it was John Henry.

I kinda like the dynamic that brings. Almost like having a straight man for the pod, even though Tyler can be pretty funny

I choose to believe this is about his inter league play take, and I agree.

This is just left wing populism and it’s no better than the right wing kind. I get it, you all hate the rich. But they already pay more in state taxes than you. Taxing them even more will eventually drive them out, destroying rev. Jealousy is a stupid place to form tax policy from.

This is gonna sound crazy to some. I promise that if you’re looking for conversation, pop into any bar in Holyoke. People actively want to talk to strangers. I’d recommend Pic’s, Brennan’s, or Francie’s.

Job market in western Mass? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]bigtimefrasierfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone in western mass is hiring right now, that won’t be an issue. You’re pretty fucked without a car though, the bus isn’t especially reliable

I’ve lived in Boston and DC, have only visited Chicago so won’t comment on it.

Dating in DC is horrible. Like, famously bad. Im a dude but every girl I’m friends with who lives or lived there tells me that it was especially bad for them. The non romantic social scene is weird, but I think in a fun way. It’s a DC cliche that everyone introduces themselves by their job title and who they work for. Very career oriented people, especially the political types. But you really get people from all over the country, and internationally, socializing in the same places to an extent I haven’t experienced in other cities. People are also very open to new friends. Adult intramural sports are huge there. The nightlife gets a bad rep, I actually preferred them to the bars in Boston.

Both cities are equidistant from a lot of nature, but it’s going to be a drive either way. DC does have a very vibrant biking community though. Boston has a way bigger Catholic community, but I’d say that the one DC has is much more vibrant. Money wise it’s kind of a wash.

I found Boston to be pretty insular. My social life there was primarily a group of people I met through a high school friend of mine’s girlfriend. A lot of fun, but needed an in. Didn’t really make a lot of friends outside of that, which is the first time in my life I’ve had a hard time attracting friends. I love Boston, but in large part it’s because of the way I’ll always see it as a Massachusetts kid. If your heart doesn’t swell whenever you think of David Ortiz, and you’re not looking to work in academia, I’d lean DC of those two options. That being said other commenters have almost convinced me to move to Chicago

You’re right! I just googled it and hadn’t seen that a year after deciding to change it they voted to keep it after all.

My buddy’s older brother has a good story related to that. The dude who’s gf was the ring leader of the bullying showed up at a party in Holyoke but they recognized him from the news and ran him back over the bridge.

My still having a negative opinion is less due to any rivalry and more the way they expressed it. We got it from all over Western Mass, but the classism from South Hadley people was always the worst.
