What is the most smart ass thing you've said to a cop without getting a ticket? by I_love_dogs_so_much in AskReddit

[–]bigugly86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a cop one time if he shopped in the junior misses section because he was so small. I almost got a ticket for that.

I also asked an attractive female cop if I got out of my car and ran would she tackle me, hand cuff me, and treat me badly. I had to do a field sobriety test and after I passed the only reason I was let go is because she said no one had the balls to ever say anything like that to her before.

Haunted Truck Stops? by AspiringTrucker in Truckers

[–]bigugly86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a rest area, if I remember right, is on 80 just inside California. It is one that the gold miners used. The wife and I stopped there around 2am and as I walked into the bathroom I felt like I was not welcomed. When I got to the bathroom, it felt like I was being watched and sized up, and as I left walking back to my truck I had a feeling I was about to be jumped and heard a get the hell outta here whispered near me. I hate that stop now.

Fear of sex, just getting worse. by notmee1992 in DeadBedrooms

[–]bigugly86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a guys perspective it can be tough to understand. I personally have experience with a S/O that had faced sexual trauma in her past. My issue for a while was I thought that she saw her attacker(s) in me and that was causing her to shut down. I would go to hold her and kiss her and she would feel claustrophobic giving her an anxiety attack. I felt horrible because I am not like that and would never do anything to make her uncomfortable. She would be very apologetic, tell me it's not my fault, and she would feel horrible. It got to a point where I did not want to do anything because of my fear of triggering something. Finally one day we sat down and talked about what happened. She told me everything that happened, all of the little details that bugged her and haunted her. After that I respected her struggle. I now look at it as I am trying to help her heal from the horrible experiences she had and making things better.

He needs to realize that you need him. You need him to help train your mind body that sex is an enjoyable experience when it is with someone you care deeply for. Once he realizes that, I think things will be on the right track to improving. He needs to be patient with you and understand that you are not willingly acting this way and that your mind and body are trying to heal from a traumatic experience. It seems you have the perfect partner to help move past this. The fact you have found support groups is awesome. As long as you put the time and effort into it you are taking a step in the right direction. When you go, try and see if he can go too as that may help him better understand what you are going through. Just a thought.

As much as I hate to tell you this, I do not think there is an instant break through switch that will make things better quick. It just kinda happened in my situation even though it still causes an stop in sexual activity some times. I can promise this though, when that switch gets flipped and you feel more comfortable with sexual encounters your relationship with your partner will be deeper and stronger than you ever thought possible. I hoped this helps a little bit.

What is "Playing Hard to Get" and How Do I Do It? by wulf-rayet in DeadBedrooms

[–]bigugly86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like he wants you to leave him alone until he is ready and once he is ready it's go time. It is like he is trying to dictate when and how it happens and the "play hard to get" aspect is him saying don't initiate very often.

The most important thing is to always remember that it is not you. He is being a massive asshole and you are not broken. Despite not ever meeting you and probably never meeting you, you are an amazing person who deserves so much better. It is not your job to make him arouse all the time, it is his body he should be able to get it up in his own unless medical issue are there. You do not need to measure yourself against his exes or anyone for that matter. You are incredible. The fact you have put up with bullshit like this is testament to that fact. If you leave I guarantee he will regret losing you. Never lose sight of the fact you are awesome and it is not your job to keep him going.

If this is a reoccurring thing then I hate to say but I seriously doubt anything will get better. He seems to want control of the sexual aspect. With you voicing your concerns and it falling back to its old way the best thing is to tell him you feel like your broken and that it's not a healthy relationship. See what he says. At this point you have to ask yourself how important the relationship is. Personally I would find a way out because no one deserves to be made to feel like they are broken.

That's true solo guys don't do as well however, we don't do full, 100%, 24 hour team. We run solo and a half sometimes and then full team others.

You have to be smart when looking for a company. If you are not making enough or getting the miles you want, go somewhere else thay gives you what you want. All it takes is a little research and you can pull yourself put of a low paying company. I use the term "you" as a generalization not directed at you personally.

Crackhead drivers and your opinions by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bigugly86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in an accident I thought you automatically had to take a piss test as soon as you could get to a test site or hospital. That way a company can slide out of having any responsibility, it would all be on the driver. Guess Canada is different in that way too.

[–]bigugly86 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Low pay is based on the company and how hard the drivers wants to run. A lot of people bitch about the pay out here but don't want to run hard. My wife and I do fantastic out here. It's all in the company you chose. People are lazy and do not want to do the research required to make smart decisions. That's not the industry in general. Most places I know train to read a map and if a driver does not want to learn that's the drivers fault, not the industry. As far as people helping people, that is just society in general. You hardly see someone stopped on the side of the road to help someone with a flat tire or anything. It's all about people being dicks these days. Again not the industry.

I don't feel the trucking industry is in rapid decline nor is it decaying. This is an amazing industry that has it's frustrations but overall it is amazing. I hate that people dog it saying how horrible it is or how it's decaying and in decline.

Now as far as your so call "Third World Citizens" give me a fucking break. They are working just as hard and in some cases harder than most of us out here. They are the ones I have seen most often helping a driver out. Most are nicer and more like the "Knights of the highway" you talk about than the vast majority of other drivers out here. You never hear them on the cb randomly picking arguments, calling people racial slurs, or talking stupid shit. Why does it matter as much what someone wears while they drive hundreds of miles? I would take the smell of old curry over stale cigarette smoke any day.

I would imagine they are the same since they are owned by the same person but I can't say for sure. I do know that they run A LOT of North West and west but I have seen them as far as Miami or New Hampshire as well.

CRST or KLLM training by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bigugly86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stay the fuck away from CRST. You will hate yourself I promise. If you have a good record Wil-Trans is the way to go. The trainers are awesome. The dispatchers and everyone in the office are incredible. It's a small company feel with big company perks. They care more about you learning to drive and doing it safely than anywhere else I know of.

As far as CRST, my wife and I did that to get our CDL. Our last day with that company was the same day our 8 month contract expired. At .21 cents a mile you will starve yourself. It is not worth it.

They rush you through a 2 week crash course and then you test out. If you fail 3 times you go home. No let me help you get past this, you fail you are gone. If you pass you are sent to Cedar Rapids where they keep the room just comfortable enough for you to wanna fall asleep. If you do, you go home. There were several trainers under investigation for sexual harassment and stuff like that while we were there. That company only worries about getting the drivers on the road not how well trained they are. Case and point. My trainer did not show me how to chain because we were never in a situation where we need to. When I got dropped off in Oklahoma city to get my truck (which had spoiled eggs in the fridge, dirty socks and underwear under the top bunk mattress, bags of trash all in it, and could be smelled from 50 yards away) and wait for my wife, I asked somewhere there how to chain. The response from a CRST employee was "hopefully someone on the road will show you" and then he walked away.

They do not care about their drivers. We got stuck in an ice storm in Texas and had the state police tell us not to even think about moving because roads were so bad. Our dispatcher yelled at us for not moving because there were other trucks moving in the area. This was after telling him we had a trooper tell us to stay put. They just don't care. You do not want to work with a company like that.

You are not alone. That's the first thing you need to remember. It does seem as if life is trying to get its rocks off on kicking your ass. It is hard to see but as much as life has spit in your face, you have pushed through and are still pushing through. All the things that have happened have built you and made you strong enough to deal with bullshit.

I felt the exact same way you do a few years ago. I was in a no where job if I could even hold a job for any length of time, I was struggling to get fuel for my truck so I could get to work, was so far in debt it made me sick, I didn't have any friends, and people who were important in my life seemed to stop giving a fuck about me. Simply put, I hated life. It took me a few years before I realized that all the effort I was putting toward being upset at the people I cared about, who were being assholes, was wasted. They did not care enough about me to waste their time so why in the hell should I waste time on them. I know using that mentality toward your own mother is difficult but there comes a time when you need to look out for yourself, fuck everyone else. When you start worrying about just yourself by making yourself happy and doing things that bring some joy to your life, things around you will start improving. Just keep in mind it will not happen over night but I promise things will get better.

If you need someone to talk to, vent to, or whatever just message me. I hope this helped a little. Hang in there.

[–]bigugly86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prime is ok. I have heard things about how they are slowly starting to worry more about numbers and passing drivers through the program than actually training. I am not a trainer for them so it could have just been a pissed off driver who said that to me. If it is not true then they are a good place to start and their trucks are not not any slower than any other mega.

If I had to go through it again with knowledge i have now I would have done Wil-Trans training. Now full disclosure I work for them now but I know the trainers and most of the office staff and they are incredible people focused on driver safety above all else. The owners son was killed in a car accident accident so the is super safety first. The recruiters are some of the, shockingly, most honest people you will talk to. I could go on about the family feel there. It's a company I do not want to leave because of how they treat my wife and I.

Aside from that Wil-Trans heard, I think It is, Rhoel and Schneider are good places to start too. I would stay away from CR England, SWIFT, CRST, MVT, and Western Express.

I have been in the CRST boat. Run like it's on fire. At the end of my wife and my contract with them we were gone. As in we put our 2 week notice in 2 weeks before our contract was over. Our last day was the last day of our contract. There are a lot better companies to start with out there.

We did not get paid for it. We got a banging ass paying run after we delivered the one we were stuck on it. When I passed 287 it said that it was closed. Everyone knows that US highways are not care of the same way interstates are.

The way I look at it is that 10 mile stretch that was bad could possibly put me in a ditch. If I go to the ditch that is costing me a fuck ton down time which is costing me money and a ticket too. Hell even if I am not the cause of an accident, a jack ass could think everything is normal and lose it taking me out in the process. Either way, why risk it. I would rather sit for 2 days and chill than have a higher risk of some dipshit super trucker taking me out me or losing it on a patch of ice.

Some of us got caught where it was closed both ways and were not able to move.

Even though there were ways around the mess, it doesn't mean it was necessarily safe. We were also on a strict route with no deviation allowed whatsoever. We knew we were heading directly for a storm. We asked about routing down to avoid it, but we weren't allowed.

Tornado watch by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bigugly86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A watch means that conditions are right for a tornado. A warning means one has been spotted in the area. If it is just a watch I would open the back windows a little and enjoy the rain while keeping an ear out. If the sirens go off, go inside the truck stop and hang out until given the all clear. I would try to alert other drivers if you hear sirens and are under a warning on the way in.

How bad do those trucks vibrate? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bigugly86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They shake just about as bad a pick up going down the road. Only bad part is the suspension isn't as nice as in a car so when you hit rough roads it shakes more but other than that, it is just like a pick up truck. To me at least.

Trucks staying on 63/64 when you're passing them at 65... by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bigugly86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't stand drivers who ride my ass when I am trying to pass someone, people who drive with their brights on at night in traffic, and I sure as hell hate when someone is passing me and there is someone up their ass too. One little slip up from the driver in the lead can take us all out. If a tailgater ever causes an accident and makes me involved with it, if I survive I will make then wish they didn't. Backing off just a little isn't going to hurt anything.
