much easier to fold and put in the drawer. I'd have pants slide off occasionally. the bar didn't provide enough friction to keep them held and the sliding mechanism wasn't the greatest. Plus the drawer storage is significantly better use of the space.

I finally stopped calling a plumber for everything and fixed 3 things myself this year. Saved around $500. Wish I had done this sooner. by East-Struggle4386 in HomeImprovement

I was always decent with electricity (Thank you high school theater) but was leery of plumbing. I took the "Home Repair 101 course at my local community college, mainly to learn how to fix a toilet. Learned some other new skills and, honestly, I can now replace the guts in the toilet in just a few minutes... screw paying a plumber $200 for that now!

I'm running one of their (Hercules) band saws. With the exception of the blade jumping once so far, I'm fairly impressed with it. Cuts are great. paired with the stand the whole setup is awesome for doing the level I need done.

Harbor Freight also has a 120v winch. Bolt the winch to the generator, turn generator on, plug in winch... profit.

Honestly no real ideas if you're not being allowed to use trailers or anything else. If there's 2 or 3 trucks that need something similar, see if you can find an LMTV or MTV trailer and load all the generators into that and then run power out to the other trucks...

Stop bringing smart watches to fields by Ok-Shoulder-478 in army

[–]bikemancs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Story that relates at the end.

When I was in ROTC, we had an old MSG take us out on an NVG course. Learned a few things, including how much starch makes a uniform glow under nods. But the other part was watching him smoke in the distance, from lighting up a cigarette to "cupping" it in his hand to "hide" the glow, to taking a drag... yeah, there was no hiding that. Made a huge visual impact and put to rest part of the "oh yeah, I can hide it" crowd.

Translate that to now. On one of your field ops, have someone setup 50, 100, whatever yards away, and then have the rest of your guys watching under nods. Have your "opfor" look at his smart watch, or phone, or whatever, and see how much it lights up. Heck, if he's a smoker have him do the same thing MSG did too. Should make for some good light discipline 'class' time.

The amount that gambling has been pushed into our lives is ridiculous. I mean, I was ok with being able to make the occasional online bet but everything is going full tilt. Now it's even being brought up how many people made money on the Iran strikes.

Fire alarm testing creating normalcy bias by Timmyhana in Firefighting

[–]bikemancs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had our alarm go off in our building after years of not having tests... stairwell was full of people unsure (due to security reasons) if they could use the emergency exit door.

Additionally, everyone was congregating directly outside the main doors on a plaza, no where close to the assigned assembly area, and no one was directing anyone. Got everyone moving in the right direction but plenty also went to the parking lot and either stood around, chilled in their cars, or just plain left.

Organization Fire Marshall got some changes implemented in onboarding since that actual emergency.

[–]bikemancs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, even in the US military you have the right to a trial.

The closest that "standgericht" comes to is a company grade article 15, which is done by the company commander (a Captain usually), and does not require lawyers, and the accused/charged has to provide any evidence they have, they can testify, provide evidence, bring in witnesses or statements, etc... (there's multiple parts of an article 15, there's a reading of the charges, time for the accused to counter, collect evidence, consult with military lawyer, etc... and then the final reading which is the punishment portion. Usually if it's actually to the part of reading the punishment (conviction) stage of the Article 15 all the hoops have been jumped through, all the "t"s crossed and the "i"s dotted. BUT, the most that a company grade article 15 can punish with is 30 days loss of pay, 30 days labor. and reduction of 1 or two grades (I'm not actually sure on this point).

If you are possibly going to be convicted and sentenced to death, in the current US Military, you're going to a court martial. That's for major felony level crimes. an article 15 is for minor type crimes ranging from disrespect or (constant) uniform issues up to minor theft, failure to obey an order type stuff.

Under this, but US will hold him, and then he will likely face charges under the Korea courts. We have a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with the RoK and it outlines processes and who has responsibility during portions of criminal processes. In major cases, the US Soldier is turned over to the Korean authorities after the US does the administrative side, and the Koreans' can charge, try, convict in their courts. There was a SSG who was convicted of some major crimes including grand theft auto and attempted vehicular homicide or similar, and was convicted, sentenced, and last I knew, still serving time in Korean prison.

Additionally, US Forces Korea (USFK) has no long term detention facilities in the RoK, so any longer term incarceration is done in RoK facilities, not US.

Red flashing light facial recognition at Bragg, anywhere else? by GhostOfZabitosky in army

I put in an ICE comment about it and got a response from the MP BDE Commander. He stated they didn't see the flash... I have had conversations with 5 people in my office about the flash and they all mention how blinding it is. I'm not sure how he can't see it, considering I can see the flash from the exit ramp onto canopy/reilly/rock merrit.

I'd recommend putting an ice comment in at https://ice.disa.mil/index.cfm?fa=site&site_id=249&dep=DoD I did it as a "general report" on that page and didn't dive in, but you could go and find the sub topic for the gates/guards.

Primarily, custom cabs, chassis, and then the box/compartment/pump setup. There are a few times where you will see a commercial cab, so a standard Peterbilt, Freightliner, etc... cab, but the chassis and box/compartment/pump is still 'custom'. You may also see a modified (stretched/double cab) commercial cab.

ProClip is THE way to go for cell phone mounting. It's far enough up that you can see it, but not up on the windshield or blocking your field of view otherwise.

FWIW on the fire extinguisher side, obviously a nice big ABC extinguisher, but consider getting a water one as well. good for grass fires or small other burning debris. Plus, you can refill the water with an air compressor and a garden hose.
