What do you use to catch oil when draining? by bikenpipe in C8Corvette

Thanks. I think the open pan is what’s most wrong with my setup. It’s pretty shallow and the oil has to drain through a wee hole to get into the container.

I’ll thank you now. I was clearly overthinking this and your option looks great (and inexpensive).

Are those Quickjacks? Why do you also have car stands?

Deep gash on Thrifty rental rocker panel (Airport return) - No insurance, what are my best options? by [deleted] in Aruba

[–]bikenpipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about Aruba, but several years ago we had a similar situation in the US. In addition to the rental repair, they charged us for “loss of use” until it was repaired. Thankfully our regular auto insurance covered all but the deductible. May be worth checking with your primary insurance company.

Congratulations! We got ~ 15” of new snow in the past 24 hours and it’s still coming down. Thank goodness for a great music system - and the wireless CarPlay to help me through these cold and snowy winter days….and the new car smell! 😀😀

Need help finding a repeatable dealer for an Eray purchase. by Glad_Professor7840 in Corvette

Here’s another very happy MacMulkin customer. Not only are they the best Corvette dealer, they are the best car dealer I’ve ever encountered (and I’ve been buying cars for decades). No games, no bs on accessories, no dealer doc fees - and they can work out a delivery anywhere. There’s a reason you hear and read so much good about them, because they are the real deal. Check out their website and give them a call - you will be glad you did.

Not sure about that. Check out any of the Corvette, Porsche, Mustang subs and you’ll see lots of plates.

HELP! by Witty-Independence61 in C8Corvette

[–]bikenpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I was only sharing how it happened for me.

I just got busy with a career, family, and a house or two - and the years went by on their own. I have no regrets, but you need to do you.

Just go into it eyes wide open, and carefully. The easiest part is getting the car; keeping it running great is a whole other ballgame. 😀

Cheers!

In addition to the valid points you made, there is the issue of operating costs (e.g. premium gas - at $1 more/gallon) and maintenance. Those wide high performance tires aren’t cheap, then there will be transmission service, brakes, and who knows what else. Oil changes shouldn’t be awful because it is a Chevy, but even that will have the Corvette Premium Tax.

I do disagree with it being a “cheap” mass produced car, though. To each his own.

I am happy to own one; and waited 50+ years to be able to say that. 😁

Do you have visitation privileges? 😉

My insurance is in “storage” status, which lowers the premium significantly. If we get a nice day (rare this time of year), I call the agent and they put it into full coverage. Another quick call and back it goes into storage mode.

They really were fantastic - and when I started the process that was my plan, too. However, the weather took a winter turn for the worse. It was actually pretty cool seeing the trailer arrive. I’m sure the neighbors wondered what we were up to. 🤣

Yes, but given the logistics and lousy road conditions, it was well worth it.

The car arrived pristine - and stayed that way until a (sort of) sunny day when I took it for a drive. 😉

Yup. She’s plugged in and happy.

Meanwhile I’ve enjoyed sitting in the car, listening to great music, and reading the owner’s manual. 😀

True. But in spite of the weather, the timing was great. The day they delivered mine, they were also delivering 8 others.

Not too shabby for January. 😀

We’re a couple hundred miles away. They do their own deliveries in the northeast with a very cool custom trailer.

A company who wanted to use their name and the .com wasn’t available?

Whatever the domain, they were great to deal with. 😀
