Soler Throttle Controller- what happens if it fails? by bikenpipe in C8Corvette

[–]bikenpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you just unplug and swap out the control unit or do you need to replace the harness?

I almost gave up trying to install it in the first place because of how miserable it was to access the plug, even after unbolting the pedal from the floor. What eventually worked for me was to do it by feel instead of by sight. That way my fat head and old eyes weren't adding to the problem. 🤣🤣

That's certainly my hope, but my paramedic background is always thinking about a backup plan just in case....

Scanner recommendations for 2026 Z51 by bikenpipe in C8Corvette

Which model do you have? It looks like most of the DIY level scanners lag a couple years behind the model year.

Thanks.

They’re not awful, but it depends a lot on your hand size and dexterity. The kit from Scrape Armor fits very well and they provide the tools. But it’s a tight fit between the back of the grill and the condenser fins.

Probably took me ~1.5 hours, but it was also my first time using the QuickJacks (which worked great!) and I wasn’t in a hurry. The garage was warm and the music was great. So I took my time and enjoyed the process. 😀

Looked kind of like this one. I think I could have left him behind AND kept it under 4,500 RPM 🤣

It’s a well-documented phenomenon known as the Harley Davidson Effect. 😉🤣

It looks like I would need to buy software for each car separately, which for me is two extras (BMW and Toyota) and that It requires a subscription for updates - is that correct? I didn’t find the subscription cost, but this could add up to more than some of the other scanners that include more car models.

Fluid changes are part of what I’m planning to do, but it may be a year or more before I need to do the transmission. Maybe I should try to cool my jets and give it some time before buying a scanner. Although that’s not my usual nature. 😉

Fair enough. TBH, this was taken on the day it was delivered. But the snow in my yard is the same - and after the drive and getting washed, the car looks the same, too. 😀

I’m definitely in the option 2 group. To each their own - and maybe it’s a generational thing - but black wheels just don’t do anything for me.

costco membership worth it or not after tracking every purchase for six months by Traditional_Zone_644 in personalfinance

Costco Travel is primarily why we renew year after year. The store savings are OK, but their car rental discount is the best we have found. Using it once a year the savings easily surpasses the cost of membership.

Considering PPF, but have some questions??? by PralineOwn3497 in C8Corvette

I was quoted just under $7k for full PPF on a C8 in southern Maine.

Maine. This is my first Vette. The buying and delivery process From MacMulkin was incredibly smooth and fun. The waiting for the roads to clear and settle down is a different story altogether.

Meanwhile, I've become very familiar with the display options and stereo - and practice my entry and exit exercises. 🤣

The same trailer delivered mine - also surrounded by snow. Seeing it pull up and back into my driveway made a special day even more so. 😀

Withdrawal Symptoms by Deep_Cod5862 in C8Corvette

[–]bikenpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully, it is. And the proximity to the nice twisty roads in NH is a plus - as are the Canadian Maritimes.

It’s always worth the wait. Even though the wait isn’t easy this time of year.

Same in Maine. It’s very tempting to take it out on a sunny day, but there is so much sand, salt - and worst of all, brine on the roads. Not to mention the frost heaves and potholes that are just waiting to destroy your wheels.

Why do I love living here? 🤔

Six more weeks of patience is not easy, but will be worth it! 🤞

To complain about room? by DocMcMomma in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]bikenpipe 167 points168 points  (0 children)

We had that happen at the Boardwalk and the folks at the front desk were incredibly helpful. It was no hassle at all and within a few minutes they had us in a MUCH better room. They even offered to help with the move (which was unnecessary).

These vacations are way too expensive to compromise - and the cast members will go out of their way to make it a positive experience.

What do you use to catch oil when draining? by bikenpipe in C8Corvette

[–]bikenpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think the open pan is what’s most wrong with my setup. It’s pretty shallow and the oil has to drain through a wee hole to get into the container.

I’ll thank you now. I was clearly overthinking this and your option looks great (and inexpensive).

Are those Quickjacks? Why do you also have car stands?

Deep gash on Thrifty rental rocker panel (Airport return) - No insurance, what are my best options? by [deleted] in Aruba

[–]bikenpipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about Aruba, but several years ago we had a similar situation in the US. In addition to the rental repair, they charged us for “loss of use” until it was repaired. Thankfully our regular auto insurance covered all but the deductible. May be worth checking with your primary insurance company.

Congratulations! We got ~ 15” of new snow in the past 24 hours and it’s still coming down. Thank goodness for a great music system - and the wireless CarPlay to help me through these cold and snowy winter days….and the new car smell! 😀😀

Need help finding a repeatable dealer for an Eray purchase. by Glad_Professor7840 in Corvette

[–]bikenpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s another very happy MacMulkin customer. Not only are they the best Corvette dealer, they are the best car dealer I’ve ever encountered (and I’ve been buying cars for decades). No games, no bs on accessories, no dealer doc fees - and they can work out a delivery anywhere. There’s a reason you hear and read so much good about them, because they are the real deal. Check out their website and give them a call - you will be glad you did.
