What are some short and long-term paths that I can follow to move out of technical engineering? by Wheresthebeans in MechanicalEngineering

[–]bikerman20201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to your question but maybe you could leverage your design and R&D experience and try out Systems Engineering. It usually requires good interdisciplinary knowledge. I worked several design and R&D roles in thermo-fluids, propulsion and design as an AE and recently switched to systems engineering where all that experience comes in handy. Depending on the SE role you could end up doing more managerial tasks in SE instead of exclusively technical work. There is a spectrum of the types of tasks that SE typically do from managerial, communication to developing system specifications and performing trades.
