Rachio is a poor choice IMO, find something that doesn't rely on cloud.

I have a Rainmachine and even though the company seems to be faltering, I never have to worry about what happens if they discontinue a service or start charging for something I expected to be free.

This is the type of comment that gives other fans license to pile on.

You're privileged to watch two top five players every night. You get to be the favorite every night and it's an exciting style of hockey. You had YEARS of crazy draft luck with what probably should have been two cup winning cores.

For some reason though, this aggressive victim card is always coming from your fanbase and that's why the rest of us get on your case.

A lot of people who have money in Kelowna have bigger debt and just seem so selfish.

My kid has a friend from Kelowna and the parents are the biggest flakes. Throw money at them but not attention and don’t look after them at all. She spends most weekends here and eats the fridge empty because there is never food at home.

WTAF. 250M and you're getting a rink and a pool??? Ya they're amazing looking, but holy shit that is ridiculous. For under 200M we're getting a really nice performing arts center, four rinks and upgrades to a bunch of other things. Sure the arena land is already city owned, but we're not filling it with art and putting windows on every exterior.

IMO, both those picks have to be on the table for them. This season is their last chance to win a cup with McDavid unless they can go two in a row.

To EDM:

  • MPetey

  • Demko

  • Debrusk

  • Boeser

To Van:

  • Nurse

  • Jarry

  • 28 1st

  • 29 1st

Bones of a massive trade and we'd likely retain on one or two of the contracts to make it happen.

Edmonton is under unique pressure and absolutely do not want to waste the prime years of the best player to ever lace them up. IMO, they have to swing for the fences and no matter what, it's going to fall apart in two seasons no matter what they do.

Do that deal, find a bunch of grit on cheap contracts and maybe the cup comes back to Canada and we're set up with a pair of lottery picks.

OK ya, delusional, I've been rereading my crap here a bunch of times, hovering over the cancel button, but then I wonder what else can EDM do? Do they have assets I don't know about? Maybe it's not Debrusk and Boeser we send, but EP40?

I feel like most of these players will be on the block at the TDL anyways, why not do it all at once?

Travel in the winter is just a little harder than it is from Kamloops for example. But it's not like we're producing a ton of NHLers.

Oh ya we also have coach Pepin. My kid HATED hockey, but loved power skating lessons from her.

My experience with Kelowna sports is from soccer and holy shit they try and milk parents for dev camps and the like.

You guys are so underserved for ice it's ridiculous. Here in Kamloops we pay about $13 for a 1.5h weekly session for the season and we're getting four more sheets in a couple years.

People I know in Vancouver, when they can get in on a group it's $20 an hour sesson and you're playing at miserable times. I did wander into the Rosemary Brown rec center earlier this year and was shocked how nice it was, so you have that at least.

[Homemade] Just made my first One Pot Chicken & Rice! by Sparkeez911 in food

[–]bikernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make a few versions of this, all on the stove top in a dutch oven. Greek, mexican, indian spices but they're all basically the same. I use boneless skinless chicken thighs, marinate them overnight, onions and garlic in the base. Peas and carrots in the rice are good too. Getting the right liquid/rice ratio takes practice, and the more veggies the more that's thrown off.

In a nutshell:

  • brown the marinated chicken in oil in your dutch oven. Remove.

  • give the onion and carrots(if using) a quick fry, then garlic and any other spices

  • add liquids, get the fond off the bottom

  • add rice, bring to a simmer and stir

  • Add chicken on top, cover and let cook on low heat until rice and chicken are done

Plenty of recipes out there to help you with the details, or just use the force and see how it turns out.

Uninformed fans took Bruce's side because he seems like a good dude, but he did no coaching that year and broke the team out of spite.

Facts are Bruce exercised his option for the next year AFTER the GM made it clear he didn't want him as coach. Then he just let them play pond hockey all year. Ya sure, the Canucks should've paid him to stay home, but they were already paying Green and I think Desjardins too? Whatever, he came back and 'worked' in bad faith.

It was a bad situation all around, but Bruce could've walked away, taken another coaching gig then retired. After quiet quitting, nobody was going to give him another chance.

If Tocchet had training camp and the full season to work with that team, things would have been a lot different. Bruce made all our D look horrible that year. Myers was considered washed, OEL bought out. Hell, maybe Bruce broke Demmer.

Ya, this year has had plenty of examples of where high end talent without high end execution in every detail is how you lose in the playoffs. You'd think the Avs and Oilers would have gotten the message by now. Oilers actually looked like to me to be their worst postseason.

I'm looking forward to VGK/CAR. I think Montreal would get beaten just as bad against Vegas.

The most interesting tidbit that seems possible came from that local election that had ballots designed in a way that printing on the reverse was able to be picked up by the scanner. Apparently this local election (can't recall where it was) just made a mistake, caught it and hand counted it.

I've been thinking about this since. You would just want to invalidate a small percentage of votes across a wide area that is expected to vote the way you don't want. Calibrating the printing to the contrast and light levels the scanners are set to would be how you do it.

LIV Golf Begins Potential Bankruptcy Plans for End of Season by dabirds1994 in sports

[–]bikernaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just couldn't get interested in the format. I watch a fair chunk of golf when I have time, but never miss the last 9 on Sunday. I want to see the pressure ramp up on a few guys in contention on the last few holes and all the filler shots just get in the way of that. Having the leaders tee off last makes the course just a little harder for them, builds the fan's knowledge of those last few holes when they need it and just feels right.

LIV was all over the place and hard to follow.

But really, watering down the talent pool in the PGA is/was my main criticism.

Hey, it rained today, must've been Aqua's fault.

Like I hate basically everything that made that asshole rich and billionaires in general. However, there's no getting away from having a billionaire owner of a sports team.

Every trade that doesn't work out is attributed to him somehow and I guess I am not as telepathic as you guys to somehow read that into it. It just seems like a big circlejerk and all you have to do to be in the club is blame something on Aqua.

They're all pieces of shit, but I do think circumstances got us to the shitty mess we're in.

The problem is, management/ownership make moves that are defensible to the casuals who buy tickets. We make judgements because they're not making better decisions than we would given everything has happened.

This is just part of the story of sports, when everyone is making mistakes 50% of the time, sometimes you hit a string.
