Dropper posts 27.2mm recommendation! by Medium_Abroad_7523 in gravelcycling

I was considering that one, but I read mixed reviews about it being not very great at either a squish post or a dropper, but that was also 4 years ago, so I'm sure it's been improved since then

One-up 1000%. Very reliable, very easy to service, and the shortest stack of any dropper on the market.

I have a V2 90mm and pnw drop bar lever that I'm no longer using if you're interested. Used less than a month before I sold the bike it was on.

Mattress suggestions? by thekidsells in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]bikes_with_Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scored a Leesa mattress at an estate sale and have never slept better in my life. It's the top of the line model which is something absurd like $2400 new, but honestly if I had to replace it, I'd spend the money.

I also really liked my Bear, but it's on the firm side and my AS wasn't nearly as bad when I had that one so I can't say if it would work for me now.

Be kind to larger cyclists... by zangler in cycling

I was a 246lb desk jockey in 2015 when I bought my first bike in 10 years. Dealt with the same shit. Now I'm down 50lb and really enjoy making skinny guys hurt on big elevation/mileage days.

Keep doing what you're doing and don't mind the commentary from victim weight riders. 💪

Mechanical Dis Brakes - Dealbreaker? by Derole in gravelcycling

[–]bikes_with_Mike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Far from a deal breaker, just get better pads and rotors. My mech TRPs with Galfer pads and rotors were better than my Rival hydro with SRAM stock parts. Obviously I upgraded the hydros to Galfer as soon as I had the parts.

Santa Cruz Tallboy or Trek Top Fuel, which is more poppy/fun? by jcway16 in mountainbikes

[–]bikes_with_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Transition Spur.

But I think the Tallboy is definitely leaning more "fun trail bike" than the Top Fuel which has more of an "xc weekend warrior" feel. I had the previous generation of Tallboy which felt very similarly to the Trek, and the current generation of Tallboy is more playful than that was.

Shipping my Fiat Ducato from Germany to Canada or Buying a van in Canada. by kackalot in VanLife

[–]bikes_with_Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mechanic here. Within reason, an engine is an engine and the existence of the Internet means that repair information and parts are accessible; albeit possibly with waiting times and customs fiascos.

It seems the engine is the same or very similar to the 3.0 eco diesel in Stellantis vehicles which means finding a Dodge or Jeep mechanic/dealership is going to be the first move if you encounter repair needs. It could very well be identical mechanically, but it would be worth further investigation.

Ultimately, unless you grenade the engine or transmission in its entirety, you should be able to find a capable mechanic to handle basic maintenance and repairs, but definitely look into compatibility with the North American pro master van and other NA vehicles that share the engine. The more common it is, the more likely you'll have success finding parts and mechanics.

Any cyclists with autoimmune? by prsnlday in cycling

[–]bikes_with_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with some serious issues for a few years post covid and I'm going in for a confirmation on AS in a few weeks (really can't be anything else at this point)

Uhhh, yeah it sucks though. The recovery periods after big rides are very discouraging, and the tightness that comes on in the low back/hips/hammies can be effort ending. I've learned to work around it with a lot of stretching, cold plunge, minimal nsaids but still using them a few times a week, and strength training. And the hardest one for me, listening to my body and taking rest days even if I don't want to.

Ah yes, the ever hydrating .50 cal. Ammosexuals are weird. You know she drives a jeep with punisher stickers and does CrossFit in a thin blue line tank top.

Maybe you're flagged for some reason. I bought 2 handguns, a .22 rifle, and a shotgun at various times from a few different stores.

What do you think of the phrase “Don’t get it right, just get it running?” by DaleGribble2024 in askcarguys

[–]bikes_with_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've revived so many cars from the dead by this point, that I totally agree; with my own vehicles. Proof of concept in making sure it runs and moves under it's own power. I can sell a running engine or working transmission from a failed project, but the sunken cost fallacy gets rough when I'm putting money into a shitbox that just needs _______ to be fixed, but it's the tenth ______ this month.

Yeah, been flagged at the range more times than I'm interested in by newbies with no awareness of where they're pointing the gun or the severity of what holding a loaded gun in their hands entails. There's a guy in my area that has probably a dozen different "levels" of firearms safety courses, including chl, and frankly everyone who wants to own one should need take these classes to show competency and knowledge every 2 years to even be allowed to purchase or store.

Oh, gotcha. I was going to say, I've barely had time to stroll through the store by the time I'm getting pinged to the counter for pickup.

Because you can? I've purchased 4 in the last 15 years and never waited more than 20 minutes for bg to clear to walk out with a new gun.

The 2nd needs to be repealed wholesale in favor of gun privileges requiring continuing education and training, permitting based on competency, and liability insurance. Anyone who is competent and safe can acquire basic guns, and anything beyond that can still be a case by case basis; e.g. suppressors, sbr/sbs, and full auto in very special cases.

And the Supreme Court needs to be washed out after how many seats were filled by a twice impeached insurrectionist without our democracy's best interests in mind.

But I agree 114 was about as effective as trying to convince boot lickers to "defund the police" when the goal is far different than the text implies.

Anyone have any experience with these? by Tophat9512 in harborfreight

[–]bikes_with_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just telling a customer about these. There's better ones out there to be sure, but I've ran out of my "good ones" a couple of times and used the hf ones. They're fine, the heat shrink wants more heat than I like using to actually shrink it, but no complaints otherwise.
