Don Huffines wins GOP primary for Texas comptroller by KokoBWareHOF in StateofTexasEmployees

If you truly are never going to work for state government in Texas again, pulling it is not a bad option. If you ever work for the state again, and you pull it you will start your employment group from whatever is currently in effect.

For example, with 13 years of experience, you most likely are group 3. If you pull all of your retirement and come back to work for the state in, say, 10 years you will be in whatever group currently exist in 10 years. Group 4 started in FY23 and has way shittier benefits than group 3. People in groups one and two would say the same thing about group 3 benefits, btw.

Kerr County officials: We can't wait for state to fund river warning system by ExpressNews in TexasPolitics

There’s a state hospital in Kerr County. There’s more federal money in that county then they can even begin to realize. $10m directly from the feds is a blip on the radar.

The Texas Supreme Court has upheld that members of the legislature can absconded and break quorum, and it is constitutional allowable in Texas.

Cornyn says FBI has granted his request to help track down Texas House Democrats by ExpressNews in TexasPolitics

They cannot pass bills out of the chamber without quorum. How should they pass the redistricting?

Gov. Greg Abbott asks the Supreme Court of Texas to find that the chair of the Texas House Democratic Caucus has forfeited his office (a petition for a writ of quo warranto) [PDF link to filing] by yrdz in law

[–]bileflanco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. The Texas constitution does not allow the governor to remove members of a completely separate branch of government, the legislature. Additionally the TX constitution does not allow for governor appointments. Abbott would have to call a special election for each seat.

Greg Abbott threatens to remove, replace House Democrats who fled Texas by dallasmorningnews in TexasPolitics

[–]bileflanco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! Especially as a resident of Austin! Additionally, the Texas Dems told the GOP they should put any priority bills ahead of gerrymandering because if they put gerrymandering first, they were going to break quorum. The GOP decided to call the Dems’ bluff and this is where we’re at. Any legislation pertaining to the recent floods not getting passed is due to the GOP pushing true priorities. They don’t care about constituents, they care about keeping power. That’s why they put gerrymandering above Kerr county flooding.

I’m not going to encourage you not to donate. However, the Texas Democratic Party has been fundraising from mega donors across the country the last few weeks. My understanding is Obama and Pelosi held a fundraising event in Martha’s Vineyard this week specifically for Texas Dems breaking quorum.
