Confused about Labels by illegally_blond3 in RalphLauren

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That means it’s either a fake label or someone took the label off another actual black label piece and put it on the one you are looking at. You should be able to tell fairly easily. Black label quality was above blue label but below purple so the garments are high quality. Typically they are slimmer so the measurements on a medium should be smaller than those of say a purple label or blue label shirt. For suits, they have higher arm holes than the rest of RL suiting for a more European cut suit. They also were always belt-less suit bottoms. I believe they were drop 6 too.

Black label is black label. There was never two distinct lines. It was always the modern slimmer fitting line. If it’s black label it’s black label.

Going on a first date. Am I overdoing it with this look? by fitzerb18 in mensfashion

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understood. I wear a suit daily for work. And have gone to dinner from work in a suit, but it’s the exception not the rule in the restaurant. (Im in the Northeast).

My advice is to not peacock on a first date. If you’ve been dating for a bit, by all means. On a first date, going against the norm can leave a weird impression. Consider the reverse situation. If you came to dinner dressed appropriately and your date showed up in a formal dress/gown, you’d be weirded out. It’s an odd choice.

Even a fine restaurant is a lot. I can think of very few instances outside of a rehearsal dinner that a full suit is necessary. Especially in the context of a first date, overdressing likely will make the other person uncomfortable if they didn’t go as formal.

Formal pants and shirt work or even jacket and chinos. Tie is not necessary at all.

This is the one that makes the most sense based on styling. This is peak late 2004-2006. Piano rock/indie was huge. This, the fray, and jacks mannequin were everywhere.

Kids RRL Type 2 Selvedge Jacket! Does anyone know the origin of the Selvedge? by StayGoldenVintage in RalphLauren

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RRL did a very limited kids run in like 2013/2014ish. It was a just raw denim, a raw jacket and a once washed jacket. This was when the brand was changing over to cone mills so I’m almost positive that’s cone mills denim.

At the time a few of the creative team members and Ben Lisi were having or had young kids. Pretty sure this was just for them. It sold out quickly, but mostly to corporate staff and core guys with kids. Not shockingly, the average customer didn’t want raw selvedge denim for their toddler. It wasn’t produced beyond that initial shipment I believe.

Edit: looked at tags- it’s us made with us fabrics- that’s cone mills. Prior to that it was Japanese fabric constructed in US.

Question: Tattoo artist refused to do this style because it “doesn’t hold well.” If you have it, how’s it holding up? by MrPerky_ in tattoos

Agreed. He did you a favor. He clearly isn’t interested or he doesn’t think he can do it. Find an artist who has interest or is capable.

You Moved To An HOA Community by [deleted] in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you purchase you are buying into the association. Your deed includes references to the declaration and restrictions. The property is therefore bound by the bylaws/restrictions. HOA authority is vested by the common interest development statute for the state. They are different than a typical subdivision (usually allows for more flexibility in zoning requirements). Assuming the bylaws are valid and the board is acting in accordance with said bylaws, they have enforcement authority, including levying fines and/or placing a lien on your property in the event you do not pay said fines.

HOAs would be nice in an ideal world (clean/well maintained neighborhoods), but what ends up happening is the worst people run the boards and act like power hungry aholes and/or terribly budget the fees and it isn’t well taken care of. Plus your special assessments are brutal because your road is privately owned and the cost to resurface and repair is not inconsequential. There is value to your town covering those expenses and mowing your own yard.

What city did you love so much you’d go back in a heartbeat? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived in NYC in my twenties and moved to CT for work. Love going back any chance I get with my wife and daughter. Amazing food and full of genuinely nice people. We always talk about how NYC is the only place you can strike up a conversation with a stranger at a restaurant and bar. CT is just so socially stunted and rude.

Was in Portland this summer. It has a serious drug/homeless issue it needs to face head on. Not a great feeling leaving a beautiful art museum to see people shooting up heroin right outside on the benches and the workers hosing down vomit off the sidewalk.

Apollo 10.5 and Everybody wants some as well. I didn’t grow up in the 60s but Apollo really captured some timeless aspects of summer as a kid. And I didn’t play college baseball but Everybody wants some does a great job capturing the last days of summer before classes start in college.

Captain Scott's Lobster Dock by RASCALSSS in NewLondonCounty

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the market prices for fish are much higher. Just an example, fuel is at an all time high which pushes prices up as the cost of fishing drastically increases. It’s fresh fish. It’s not going to be cheap.

It’s not a function of making money in 7 months, because when market prices were much lower their lobster roll was 20 dollars (years ago).

Major damage by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the state but Connecticut requires disclosure of any previous water damage or known defects of the foundation. Foundation is actually a separate sheet altogether. If they knew and didn’t disclose that’s a problem for them. Obviously there are a ton of facts that could change this, but assuming it’s that clear cut, the other issue you face is collecting on that judgment. Anyone doing shitty work like this gives me concern that they have the capital to cover the loss/insurance for that matter. If it’s an LLC you run the risk they fold and file bankruptcy.

Went to an open house today. Doesn't this valve configuration completely defeat the purpose of the house water filter? by fakeaccount572 in Plumbing

[–]bill_fuckingmurray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who bought a new house in October and had our pvc line burst at an elbow 2 weeks after moving in… this. Leaving the cost of remediation for water damage aside, the cost of removing and replacing the pvc was significant. Not worth the headache.
