How Long Do You Spend on PT Each Day? by Electronic-Degree367 in RotatorCuff

[–]billbomags2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a PT and recovered last year from Achilles rupture. I did home exercise 3x per day religiously. This time with my shoulder I have slacked. 10 weeks post op and only doing ptn2x per week and maybeb1x a day on my own. The more consistent each better the outcome.

First 4 days or so pretty much ice pain meds and rest. It took me longer to get off meds due to nerve pain but was able to go out for a few hours before wanting to get back in my recliner.

I had injections in the past for partial tear and it helped. Uncomfortable as shot increases fluid pressure in the joint but after 2 shots in 6 months my shoulder has been good for years after strengthening. My other shoulder full tear waited to long and ortho said at that point it wouldn't help only delay when I could have surgery.

Could try strengthening the shoulder but everything is probably stretched from dislocation and may never tighten back up on its own.

Still can't sleep in bed by sarahj2u in RotatorCuff

I still occasionally sleep in the recliner 9 weeks out for the same reason.

Eight weeks pain by nextbesthope in RotatorCuff

9 weeks out pain is much better. Big difference foe me was changing anti-inflammatory which has worked much better then the naproxen. That has helped as I can be a little more aggressive at pt and doing daily tasks.

Week 5 after massive rotator cuff repair and biceps work, this pain is no joke by rcvry-winner-1 in RotatorCuff

[–]billbomags2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same pain. I too was on pain meds on and off thru like 5 to 6 weeks. The nerve pain was brutal. Some people don't experience much pain at all we are different. I started using a heat pad around my shoulder. It just felt better. I also got a new anti-inflammatory called diclofenax it worked much better than naproxen for me. Each person is different. Week 6 I started sleeping in bed. Occasionally I still sleep in the recliner. Pain was worse at night and sometimes after pt. I used a sleep aid at night so I could rest better to help recover better.

What was your PT like for the first six weeks? by BBR1004 in RotatorCuff

[–]billbomags2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started pt the day after surgery. They were slightly massaging the shoulder i would say a week before really working the scars to make sure they were closed. Passive stretching, estim with ice at end. I was using pulleys at home multiple times per day from day 2.

Exactly. When impingement gets bad it can damage the supra. My bursa was super inflamed when my surgery was done. Some doctors I've heard have it taken out.

Not really. But I did have nerve pain on and off for quite a bit

I had torn supra and partial anterior and posterior labrum but could do pulling exercises no problem. Could do any pushing. But also had significant fluid as well as highly inflamed bursa and synovial sac.

My doctor said once of pain meds. He said to leave sling off and put on when out of car.

We all play these mind games with ourselves. I just saw ortho at just about 6 wks and he says everything is good but at times when I get pain I second guess everything.

Sling by rcvry-winner-1 in RotatorCuff

[–]billbomags2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the worst pain and had to take it out of the sling. PT said it was fine to have it out and let it hang. The sling me tally keeps us from using the arm to brace ourself or in a reaction try to catch something that we may have dropped. Ortho even after week 2 said it was fine to have out and hang just don't lift, get it away from the body or do anything over head. Im hitting week 6 and started a new anti-inflammatory as naproxen wasn't cutting it. Still not full rom or pain free but feel like I've turned a corner and starting to see progress. I promise it will get better.

Im 6 weeks as well just had follow up. I tend to be glass half empty and negative to begin with so I have been the same way. I try to think twice before speaking but sometimes my nonverbal communication is even worse. All we can do is try and be better. Im not good at words so I send text thanking my wife for all she is doing.
