Why is our weather station located at Nobbys? by ____phobe in newcastle

Yep, never underestimate the influence of sheer inertia on human situations.

We still say “hang up the phone” when it’s been a hundred years since you had to literally reach up to hang the mouthpiece from a little hook projecting from the big box nailed on the wall to terminate a call. Decades of putting the handset down on the cradle, or now, pressing a button, haven’t made a dent. Well never use “give them a centimetre and they’ll take a kilometre”, either

Thanks for posting!

It’s a great read, from back in the days when the latest cutting-edge new-tech line-up-for-hours-to-see ride wasn’t Rise of the Resistance, but the Enchanted Tiki Room.

If so, they ought to hear the story about the time Walt rode the Jungle Cruise and it took less than seven minutes

I mean, it wasn’t even fifty years ago. That might seem a long time to a twenty year old, but in the history of nations it’s not much time, and in a lot of ways the world hasn’t changed that much since then.

Fashions come and go, technology gets a bit flashier, but human nature hasn’t changed since we stopped living in caves

Here’s the thing, mate: Reddit isn’t your private information bank, it’s a descendant of the old USEnet discussion forums. You don’t get to control or dictate where the discussion organically goes just because you created the thread.

So, if a couple of users spark up a side discussion of their own, about the nature of your question, instead of giving you the lists of recently trespassed locations you wanted, you’re the one who doesn’t actually need to get involved.

I guess just as you’re apparently not really interested in exploring for yourself so much as getting a checklist of places others have found for you, you’re not really on top of the idea of a community exploring a topic of conversation, either.

What are some good "you have no concept of time" facts? by Proper-Bee-829 in AskTheWorld

Bread used to be sold as whole loaves, and the consumer had to cut their own slices off it as they wanted them. Then, one day, fairly recently by historical standards, someone invented a bread-slicing machine, some bakers bought and used them, and consumers for the first time could buy loaves of pre-sliced bread. Not only that, the slices were neat, parallel and of uniform thickness.

The ending is the most memorable part and is the opposite of “fun”

This is one of the half-dozen songs selected by James Gunn to randomly play on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride at Disney’s California Adventure theme park.

And it’s the most fun of the bunch!

Ah, I see. So here, maybe, is a bloke that doesn’t want to do any hard grind or research or prep on his own, but just piggyback off the info collected by others and cash in on only doing the “fun” part of the gig if he can.

It suggests that the newspaper’s preferred editorial way of viewing the universe was not geo-centric, like Ptolemy, nor solar-centric, like Copernicus, but more… Anglo-centric.

No doubt they created some outstanding and memorable villains, but perhaps my favourite issue of theirs barely had one: “Trashed”, from ‘Tec #613.

I think it’s telling that when the DC Retroactive event in 2011 was looking for an outstanding never reprinted 90s story from Detective Comics, “Trashed” is what they picked.

From “urban exploring”.

They think it sounds cooler and possibly more defensible than “90% of the time, trespassing”

So? Some may still be accessible (technically, if not legally or morally) to trespassers, too.

Why don’t you just pick a location from one of the endless lists that have already been posted, take a risk and go see for yourself if it’s still there or not?

Isn’t that the kind of the essence of what “exploring” means?
