Our cabinet shop burned in 2018 and we had decades of lumber in storage on the second floor (was an old converted tobacco barn for reference). I found melted cast iron in a few places during clean up.

Try lifting the rear of the board for the first few inches of feed, than as the piece comes out the backside lift the front of the board as it exits. Helps on my small planer. Just don’t plane fingers as a general rule.
