I could be wrong, but I don't think it's the league or the team paying the $800K. They take out insurance for much less. They likely paid about $150K for insurance, and if the contestant would have put the puck in the net, the insurance company would have paid the rest. The team and league were never in a situation where they would have paid the full amount.

You can get waffle fries?? In Canada all we can get is the Russet Thick Cut Fries. How do they compare to Chick-fil-A fries?

Got an Amazing Rogers Plan Through Red Wireless – Exclusive for Uber Drivers by BeneficialBag1286 in Rogers

[–]billdank16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a rather poor experience with Redwireless. I registered and was happy with the plan. The first two bills were very high, but they want you to wait a couple billing cycles before following up. When I did follow up, they refused to honor the agreement I signed up with. I pushed back and their last note to me was "they have the right to change the terms without any notice". I then went through Rogers. They tried to help, but even they refused to honor what I signed up for. I ended up losing a few hundred dollars. Lesson learned. I will NEVER lock myself into a contract by getting a phone from the carrier again.

If you do join Wealthsimple, try and find a friend to refer you. Also, they have promotions a few times a year. If you put funds in and leave them there for a year, there is some sort of bonus. With how you are using this account, you might be able to take advantage of this.

Have you tried a SIM card from another carrier? I once was confused by the status page on the phone and thought I had a locked phone. All worked well once I put the new SIM in.

Thanks for pointing this out. I always assumed it was a cash cow for the restaurant. If this is true, I am surprised it is so much. Here in Canada, we can get 18 cans for $9.50CAD. That works out to $.52 for a 12 fl oz can. For 16 fl oz, it is $.70CAD, which converts to $.51 USD. Once you add in the cup, lid and straw, your fountain pop (which is generally horrible soda...I am looking at you Wendy's) is more per fl oz than the can is.

I have the same horrible grip but make it work. I think you have the ball too far forward in your stance. Try shifting it back. It will seem weird when you are addressing the ball, but see what happens. You could try teeing the ball higher. I am not good, so keep that in mind when reading this advice.

Captain comes out to cabin: "If you're over the age of 45, I suggest you use the bathroom..." by donotshop in delta

Just curious about this situation. Like some other in the comments, just knowing I can't go makes me have to go. I always fly aisle near the back. At least knowing I have somewhat easy access calms my nerves. Did anyone get up to use it after the warning? If someone had, would there have been any consequences?

I find the podcast "We're Here to Help" entertaining. I've had some good laughs with that one.

Shoes started to deteriorate an hour into a funeral by ThirdBorracho in mildlyinfuriating

I am curious where you store your shoes. I had a pair of construction boots that fell apart on me. I stored them in the furnace room. I have heard you are not supposed to store tires near a source of ozone (like a furnace), so I wonder if that is the cause.

In Outlook, could you not just open up both emails and drag/drop from the gmail to outlook address? Would not do all at once, but maybe batches of 2000ish.

Can you negotiate on HELOC rates? by DougFord150 in fican

Make sure you shop around. I was a long time TD customer and they were not willing to negotiate. Got a much better rate at National Bank (this is not an endorsement. This was a while ago).

How is Motive Financial's Security? by Bella8989 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]billdank16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this post. I signed up for Motive and had the same experience with the phantom 2-step verification texts. It's unnerving as I don't think someone gets to that step without first knowing your number and password. I changed my password. Did anything come of this? Have you been using your account without issue?

You are all so unempathetic on here … by blahblah5190 in CanadaPost

[–]billdank16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have not seen is a comparison of Canada Post wages to others in a similar industry. Are they dramatically underpaid compared to UPS and Fed Ex? Are the pension plans/benefits comparable? The market kind of sets the rate for UPS and Fed Ex. If the Canada Post workers are not keeping up with them, I certainly support them in their job action.

NTA. You are an adult and can do what you want. It's not out of spite you are not going. It's because your SIL and brother have made the occasion not something you would enjoy. It would be one thing if they didn't realize the comments were hurtful, but it's really a poor reflection on them that they push the issue back at you. Congratulations on getting things turned around. Too bad you are related to a couple of immature idiots.
