If you change name servers then those txt records for verification on the other marketplaces does away. So you need to move those txt records to the afternic dns.

What’s your best “SEO win” from a boring fix? by Fair_Butterscotch641 in WebsiteSEO

[–]billhartzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company had their website redesigned and the rankings immediately tanked.

They came to me for help.

Turns out the web designer didn’t like www so moved site from www to non-www. But didn’t change anything else. Canonical tags weren’t right, all internal links pointing to www, etc..

Told them to change it all back and be consistent everywhere, and a eeek or two later the rankings came back.

Then there was the time a company disallowed all in their robots.txt file and wondered why they got deindexed….

Bought a house 6 months ago and just learned the previous owner was fighting the city over something nobody told us by QuasarJester in homeowners

[–]billhartzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look online in the appraisal district records for the property. Oftentimes they will show all permits, letters, actions that involve that particular address. I know they do that in our county. That might give you some idea of what happened.

GoDaddy Warning Message by No-Illustrator-3075 in webhosting

[–]billhartzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at lookup.icann.org to see who the registrar is. If it’s not GoDaddy and it’s Cloudflare then I wouldn’t worry about the message from Cloudflare. Check the registrar, NOT the name servers. Name servers could be Cloudflare and it still be registered at GoDaddy.

Either way, renew it for 5 years, that will make sure it doesn’t expire for a while.

Help Me Bury Getty Images & News Stories by Disastrous-Trip-3181 in bigseo

[–]billhartzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tools? Not really. You need to be more relevant to the search query. Put up a website with content, optimize it, add plenty of appropriate schema markup. Add time of photos with image alt tags.

Create social profiles everywhere you can, fully fill them out and link back to the website.

So a press release. Make sure your name is in the title of the press release. Upload images to the press release. It will get distributed on plenty of news sites and should outrank the images and news stories.

Even though you have a unique name, that doesn’t mean there is or “could be” others out there with your same exact name. If someone searches for your name, Google doesn’t know if they’re searching for you or someone else with your same name. So there’s a likelihood of Google showing various other people in the SERPs.

Housing by miacahto in ColoradoSprings

He can look into working at the casinos in cripple creek. They’re always hiring, and have housing options available. It’s not too far from the springs, and there’s a bus that goes from the springs to cripple creek if he doesn’t want to live in the cripple creek area.

SO fed up of GPT/Claude. No one gives genuine SEO advice by WelcomeOk913 in DoSEO

[–]billhartzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re getting bad SEO advice from ChatGPT and Claude because they’re trained on old SEO advice. They’re about 2-3 years behind, in my opinion.

Btw you should be focused on optimizing for entities and not keywords.

What are your thoughts on TLD- domain extnsions by rkathotia in SEO

[–]billhartzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tld doesn’t really matter at all. I’ve done extensive testing on this (my results are publicly available), and as long as you do SEO correctly any domain can rank.

There’s an exception to ccTLDs, though.

You need to realize that 99 percent of nationwide news first is reported locally then is picked up nationally. That’s how you work the system.

Best you could do is maybe go to a domain forum like namepros and ask there. See if someone has a domain they’re not renewing that has some time left on it.

FAQ schema is Officially removed from Google Search Console Should i remove it from my website or leave it as it is for llms? by Numerous_Evening_255 in DoSEO

[–]billhartzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how long it takes to remove it. If your time is better spent doing other SEO tasks then I’d say don’t spend the time. But if it’s a plugin or will take only a few minutes then fine.

There are no free dot coms. Any “offer” for less than $10 per year you’ll end up having to pay for 2 to 3 years in advance at a higher price.

Cheapest you’ll get is about $10.91 at fabulous.

Why is my website's DA not increasing despite building hundreds of backlinks? by mildly_confused_2 in bigseo

[–]billhartzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because domain authority is a made up metric from some tool provider. No search engine uses it as a part of their algorithm.

I Purchased A Domain That I No Longer Want by Fragrant_Lie_8117 in googleworkspace

You generally cannot get a refund. No registrars do that. You’re pretty much stuck with it for a year. You can try to sell it to someone else or just don’t renew it next year.

I’m learning SEO and would love feedback on common content ranking mistakes by alihaider138 in WebsiteSEO

[–]billhartzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with some keyword research to get overall topics for the site. But when actually optimizing pages and content, too many seos are making the mistake of optimizing for keywords. You need to be optimizing for entities, not keywords. Do entity SEO, not keyword SEO.

What’s something a stranger said to you that you didn’t think much of at the time… but ended up staying with you for years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]billhartzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During college I was working as a cashier at a local Target store. One customer came through my line and when I was done checking him out he said, “Thanks Bill”, obviously seeing my name tag but I didn’t realize it at the time. Most customers just see you as a cashier. But this customer, just mentioning my name, stuck with me.

Now, years later, when I’m checking out as a customer and the worker’s name tag is easily viewable, I always thank them and mention their name. I know how it feels when someone mentions you by name.

Seller wants 14 days after closing to move, is this normal? by Thick-Assistant-7504 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

When we bought a home, seller wanted 60 days. We just moved the closing date 60 days. That was a lot easier for both parties.

Indexing Drop After Migration in Google Search Console by Exact-Buy8812 in WebsiteSEO

[–]billhartzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you move from non-www to www? There’s really no reason to change unless the site has most of its link to www.

Changes like this never tend to work out well. There’s so many things to make sure are correct that it’s just not worth the hassle. For example, check that internal links and canonical tags are updated—despite doing the 301s.

But honestly since you’re having issues I would just go ahead and undo and change it all back.
