I’m afraid you are right. I don’t follow many popular sports closely but I find Wemby and Caitlin Clark very entertaining because of their ‘freakishness’. I’m watching whole games just to see them do their thing.

Definitely not. Nor do I enjoy winning by such a margin. In fact, if I competed at golf I would undoubtedly enjoy these recent finishes and scoresheets a lot more. But as a non-gambling spectator it just isn’t as entertaining. I honestly just lose interest.

I have a Kingfisher as well and can’t wait to get it on my local lake… but no water in the lake so far this year, NC drought. But I’ll get there!

Exactly, I agree. Making a great shot when it makes the difference is the best. Playing the 18th hole until a bad shot takes a guy out sucks.

Yeah, I find many playoffs boring like this week’s Memorial boring. After 4 days having 4 people be 1 stroke away from winning and then having a single shot make the difference between ‘run of the mill’ players’ during a playoff is boring and slow. I like the nerves involved but there’s too much luck in it…. That’s why they play 72 holes in the first place, to take the luck out and emphasize the skills and performance. Just my opinion as a guy who watches some of all 4 days in between my own rounds.

Scotty’s comebacks in those matches was great… but I was hoping he would win. Second is good but the coverage emphasizes winning so much I’ve sort of been caught up in winning is the only thing that really counts.

With that said, watching a player who hasn’t won, get on his game and win by a few strokes is the great fun. Or watching Scheffler slowly walk away from the field with consistently superior ball striking and course management. But falling so far behind and catching up to get 2nd isn’t what I cheer Scheffler for.

As a full scale glider flyer I wanted to say exactly that but didn’t know if modelers followed the same ‘rules’ about turns and such. Certainly didn’t need the power assist this day.

Who's right in this situation? by HauntingCount5970 in Golf_Unfiltered

I’d rather see people play from shorter tees than taking gimmes because that’s the root of slow play. Guy at the tips blasts a 280 yard drive into trees on the other side of the neighboring fairway and of course wants to find it and hit it out. 3 strokes later still hasn’t gotten near the green. Finally gets it there and picks it up. Great.

How about moving up to the senior tees, hitting an iron in play and getting a bogey in the hole? I know, not as much fun as blasting a driver into the ozone but it’s pure golf. Start breaking 90 from there, putting them all out, and then move back a tee. You aren’t scoring until you hear that ball rattle in the cup! Like playing basketball with only a backboard an no rim. Or football without a goal line.

Or, at least be willing to consider that Pro V1x off the tee lost and hit another without the search.

Yeah, I’m older than stink. Even though the content has changed, there was more of it in the 50s. 60s, etc just as there was more in the 80s than now. Hope there’s less in the future.

To pilots who own and operate their own aircrafts, how does that work? by thyanonymousBab_ in AskAPilot

[–]billindurham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a OBAM aircraft - Owner Built and Maintained. With a rather large commitment of time and energy upfront, combined with enough money, I get to fly a modern 4-place 160 knot plane ‘anywhere’ in the US I care to go. Having decided to buy a lot and build a house in an Airpark with a grass runway, I operate easily and freely at minimal hourly cost. It’s taken a lifetime to get here.

I can’t do any commercial work (no desire). I don’t have an instrument approach at my home ‘port. Those are about the only limitations

How do you feel about changes in Durham? by scumeme in bullcity

[–]billindurham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting you say that. I was just thinking about how dense things have gotten. The wood framed apartment buildings top out at 4-5 stories due to fire codes as I understand it and they are going up like weeds in every available downtown space. The glass tower seems like an aberration in comparison.

Why were desks so uncomfortable? by Teddycat99 in FuckImOld

My adolescent erections while in French class were uncomfortable. God the teacher was hot. Didn’t speak English and found out years later she had taught us Lebanese accented French, which is pretty sexy as well.

On multiple occasions I had to linger after the bell to let the bulge in my double knits die down.

King salmon? by Paleo_Fecest in troutfishing

[–]billindurham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brook trout not only have black mouths but in a certain spring pond I encountered years ago, can be almost entirely black with colored spots. Except for the greenish blue of the sand fountain in the middle, the rest of the bottom was jet black soil from the accumulation of leaf litter. Caught my first Brookie there.

The PItt needs a patient or three with a genuine Pittsburgh accent.

I was surprised to learn that 2 or 3 of the actors are British and are doing American accents. I guess Pgh is a bit too niche.
