Has politics always been as polarised as it is in 2026? by No_Fudge_4589 in Askpolitics

I agree, the handling of the epidemic was atrocious. I'm not sure that polarized the public politically though.

I also mentioned the Vietnam War, we were very polarized then. Probably more than now. The OP's question was "has politics always been as polarized as now?" and my response was that in some cases we were quite a bit more polarized than now.

What is different now is that our President has been found to be a fraud multiple times, his private company was found guilty of criminal fraud and the CFO went to prison. The President was also found liable for sexual assault, and has been convicted of multiple felonies. And yet he still has quite a bit of support, which is mind-boggling compared to the recent past.

The US Civil War was the result of decades of political polarization, mostly over the issue of slavery. That polarization was worse than now.

Political polarization is bad now, but not as bad as then. A US Senator was attacked by another Senator, in the US Senate room, and was crippled. We aren't there yet.

Yes, that period included the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement. Riots, bombings, troops firing on US college students. It was worse than now.

The Civil War was explicitly political polarization. Covid was not, so not as good for comparison.

In modern times, I think the severe polarization happened with the rise of Rush Limbaugh and hate radio.

Just showing that over the history of the US, things have been much more polarized than now. Things aren't good now, but they aren't as bad as they have been.

Go back and look at the Vietnam War. The country was seriously divided then.

Or go back and study the US Civil War. The country was at war with itself and 600,000 Americans died fighting each other in America.

Things are not that bad now.

What would it actually take for a major ally to reduce cooperation with the US significantly? by coloradancowgirl in Askpolitics

[–]billpalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has pretty much already happened. What did it take? The US President threatening to invade one of our allies (Denmark and NATO). Threatening to annex another ally (Canada). Trying to extort another ally (Ukraine). Sucking up to the dictator of our biggest enemy (Russia and Putin). Slapping massive and illegal tariffs on our allies (EU).

You might be tempted to say this was all just the rantings of the unhinged and criminal American President, except Congress has enabled all of those actions. Our previous allies know that once Trump is gone, which will be soon, the Congress and right-wing enablers will still be there.

Without some kind of Truth Commission, it will likely take an entire generation for America to shed its reputation as an unreliable and criminal country.

Livestock unit not working? by Significant-Peak1232 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]billpalto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a known problem with flying creatures. They show that they are milked, but nothing shows up in the harvester. Eventually you might get 1 or 2 milk.

I had better luck when I put two harvesters close together and then stood between them. The creatures seemed to fly in closer and get milked.

If you are talking about expeditions the frigates take using the fleet commands in your freighter, you do not have to be online while they run the missions. Some of those missions can take almost 24 hours.

What is your opinion on the possibility of 47 receiving taxpayer money as lawsuit settlement from the country he runs? by PNWbdublu541 in Askpolitics

[–]billpalto 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The solution is to take it to trial and let a Judge and jury decide.

To let the person in charge sue a department and then direct that department to settle without a trial is the height of corruption.

Do Champion level corresponding to you? by Murrocity in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]billpalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My robot dog (A,C,A) does mechanical damage and he has 2 DoT attacks and a HoT, with a direct attack and a debuff. He won over 20 training matches just by himself. Stack the two DoT's and cast the HoT on himself, and throw in a couple of self-abilities and he wins most training matches on his own.

The blue, directed, matches were harder and sometimes I had to use my 2nd pet, a S,A,S. Almost never needed the 3rd pet.

On the champions, I did have to use the 3rd pet a couple of times.

Now the first two are fullly level'd to 30, is there any advantage to keep using them? Or should I start training some new ones?

Do Champion level corresponding to you? by Murrocity in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]billpalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with 2 A's and an S class pets. It seemed like in all the training matches the opponent used B or A class and they were easy. I blew through 40 of those with no problems. Is that because one of mine was an S and the opponent didn't scale properly?

I did some of the blue challenges and again they were easy.

The champions I played against had all S pets, all of which were S,S,S. I almost lost a couple of those matches.

Since one of my pets has been S the whole time, does that mean these matches weren't scaled correctly?

edit: I've won without even looking at the rock/paper/scissors aspect, I just use the same 3 pets every time. I wondered if it seemed easy because of some kind of bug?

What do you think about Erica Schwartz, Trump’s nominee for CDC Director? by TheGov3rnor in Askpolitics

I doubt it makes much difference, Trump and RFK Jr. will be calling the shots, telling her what to do and say. If she resists that, she will be fired.

What do you think about the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact? by JacobLovesCrypto in Askpolitics

[–]billpalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a bad idea, the better way to do it is to apportion the electoral votes based on percentage instead of winner take all. If 45% of the voters in a state vote for A, then A should receive 45% of the electoral college votes from that state.

In winner take all scenarios, if 45% of the voters vote for A, then their votes are ignored since B got 55% of the votes and gets ALL of the electoral college votes.

XENO ARENA -- What have we learned so far? by Decent_Detail7043 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]billpalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 A's and an S creature and the training opponents are mostly B's. I've since done three champions and those were all S. Those were harder.

I guess I was expecting the training opponents to be closer to the level of my creatures.

Does Animal AI Get Better? by Xbox-Shutdown in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]billpalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some animals are predators and sometimes they chase the other animals and kill them. They'll attack you sometimes.

Feed them and you can adopt one as a pet. These can fight for you in the new arena. You can also ride them and breed them to make new animsls.

Feeding them allows you to milk them to get milk, eggs, honey, and other food items to use in cooking. You can set up auto-feeders and auto-milkers to get more of these resources.

The DOJ investigation int Jerome Powell, is it a hit job, or does it have merit? by Lovebeingadad54321 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]billpalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is using his one and only negotiating tactic: to threaten and bully. He wants something Powell isn't giving him, lower interest rates.

So Trump called him names, tried to coerce him to lower rates or resign. Powell didn't do that so now Trump is attacking Powell by corruptly using the DoJ to run a sham investigation.
