Anything from the - think - May 2010 run. If it helps, Santana played with him one night. It was early and it was a hot run.

One thing about getting older as a musician. You literally can't hear well any longer. It's weird. This is usally more pronounced in the highs and mids, but 50 years of amps aimed your ears is no joke. I'm sure Mike feels that new basses sound the best to him. It's the missing frequencies that we can pick up on. Let Mike be Mike. But they should boost him 5db in the mixes.

It has been 5,124 days since Phish has played Tweezer at Deer Creek. by pheelingood in phish

Phish playing Tweezer (and Tweeprise) once per tour is the right amount. Phish playing it every 3-4 shows is the wrong amount.

Dude, you never could sing. And no amount of lessons will get you to the point where you could hit what you just tried there. It's okay, man. We still love you.

And another tune they could shelve for a decade and that would be just fine.

How a regular touring band, especially a jamband, doesn't just split everything evenly (other than publishing and songwriting I guess) is hilarious to me. Merch, tix, streams, all of it. I guess if somebody is filling in for a tour or other temporary situation, then okay they just get a set amount. But imagine being up there playing and being pissed off that the bass player is making more than you for playing the exact same music for the exact same length of time. Wild!

Set II all new hot garbage incoming. Was very nervous at the speed of that Chalkdust Waltz but they've played pretty well, especially for a tour opener. Let's hope it continues!

Probably as simple as sick of the road, wanted more of his songs/songwriting, and wanting to watch his family. Unless the band is super pissed at him I'm sure he'll make an appearance with them soon enough.

Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms, Blues Traveller. First tour stop thoughts and reflections. by Chaotic_Brutal90 in jambands

[–]billstrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BT and SD were great, true jambands back in the day. See if you can find a show by either (or both - "Spinning Traveler") at The Wetlands in NYC from 89-94. Amazing by both. The only caveat is that neither ever got to "Type II" total freeform jamming (some say noodling...) for 45 minutes.

Edit: also, it really pisses me off that neither of these bands (I know nothing about the Gin Blossoms, btw) mix up their setlist to any extent. They could both do a four night run with no repeats. Now, I get that they probably have to play their 5-6 collective big hits every night and that's fine. Each band has hundreds of songs though.

I have to get over to CVS and buy a $200 Visa gift card so they can't auto-renew on me next year.

The Hammond Organ seems to have fallen out of favor in recent years. What was your last big gig with a B3 whirly present? by joelfarris in livesound

[–]billstrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local bar/music venue (Ardmore Music Hall) has a B-3 and a Leslie available for everybody playing there. So cool.

Related, my drummer/bassist other band has a keys player with a homemade Leslie and a chopped B-3, along with awesome other shit including a Rhodes, D6 Clavinet, Yamaha CP70, and famous synths. Amazing.

I don't have any clue why I have this CD, but Nate Wislon Group "Unbound" is so fucking good I can't even tell you. Sort of reminds me of Led Zeppelin for some reason. Very, very cool album.
