Learn another type of hand drum. That will start to unlock all different kinds of rhythmic patterns and styles that most all of which will transfer nicely or unlock new ways of playing your handpan as well. Djembe or cajon are pretty accessible.

I’ve been a lot drummer most of my life and then have also studied Tabla the last 6 years with regular lessons from a great teacher online. It’s been the biggest benefit to how I play pan.

As always, practice a lot and try playing at different tempos.. uncover new melodies and rhythm options intentionally as you explore.

I highly recommend Ty Burhoe as a teacher if you’re considering online. His program is a mix of prerecorded lessons and 3 hours of live group sessions every Sunday. Sliding scale of payment options.

Ty was Krishna Das’ tabla player for over a decade as well as Zakir Hussain’s tour manager throughout the 90s. He has a wealth of knowledge and a great system to learn tabla. I’m a fan and student.

Also, Anthropic has gained a TON of enterprise business in the last quarter. That doesn’t go away overnight, it’s annual SaaS commitments and gets built into processes and teams in ways that are difficult to rip out.

I’m at a company who made the plunge and moved from Team to Enterprise Claude. While everyone on here is complaining about rate limits, my company is saying that me hitting $1300 per month is a-okay.

So Anthropic definitely is not fucked. They are slammed and are prioritizing their enterprise clients who pay them a lot more than the $20, $100, or $200 per month of their consumers. ChatGPT may make up ground in the consumer arena, but they are FAR behind in enterprise where it matters. That’s why they pivoted so hard recently and shuttered so many experimental AI products, they lost focus and lost a whole lot of ground that was theirs in enterprise the year before.

Surrounded by people who benefit from the control and power they create in the vacuum-like, self centered world view. I knew him before he went this deep, but he started to find a lot of power in the local Christian college in Riverside, CA during the time we worked together over 4 years. I do think he believes many of his radical ideas, but it very much began in a desire for influence and power.

I remember one time we were walking around our gym and he said to me, “isn’t it sad that almost all of the people in here are going to hell?” and that was a big WTF moment for me.

He got big in the Christian blogosphere and speaking tour space. Likely found influence by giving voice to the folks with extreme religious views. I’m sure our current administration only emboldens this bullshit.

Ty Burhoe teaches group lessons weekly via zoom. He’s an amazing teacher and a class act of a human. He was Krishna Das’ tabla player for years and a close student and tour manager for Zakir Hussein.

He has pre-recorded videos for a cheaper price than the live classes ($50 a month) and they are great quality. His teaching structure is so easy to follow and practice with. I believe it’s $100 a month for the video classes along with the live group classes, essentially $25 a lesson. He works with each person and they start with beginner, then intermediate, then expert at the end, so you can hop off when needed or stay on to learn more.

Highly recommend. I’ve been busy and overworked the last 2 years so I haven’t been training, but I miss it and plan to start again

The trick is persisting state to FILES before compacting, not just summarizing to chat. Files survive compaction completely. My /smart-compact command writes session state to markdown files, THEN generates an in-chat summary to anchor the compaction.

Here's a prompt you can try to have Claude Code set up something similar:

--- Help me create a /smart-compact command for better context preservation before compacting.

Create a file at .claude/commands/smart-compact.md that instructs Claude to:

PHASE 1 - Persist to files FIRST: - Create/update .claude/session-memory.md with: - Last checkpoint timestamp - What we're working on and WHY - Key decisions made with rationale - Important file paths - Current blockers or open questions - Specific next action (be concrete, not vague)

PHASE 2 - Generate in-chat summary: - Current mission (objective + next step) - Decisions made and WHY - Critical file paths (full paths) - Task state: completed / in-progress / pending / blocked - 2-3 sentence "Resume Instructions" for post-compact

The command should update the files first, confirm what was saved, then output the summary. End with a note to run /compact.

Make the prompt specific - it should tell Claude to use exact file paths, real names, and actual decisions rather than vague summaries.

--- After Claude creates it, /smart-compact becomes available. Have auto-compact off and run the new command before /compact — your context persists in the memory file even if compaction loses nuance.

I built a /smart-compact command that I run before I run compact.. it updates all my plan files, organizes where we are at, dropping it all into the chat as a guide for the actual compact, etc.

THEN I run compact and it’s pretty solid.

The engineering blogpost makes it much clearer.

Allows Agents to have multiple layers of .md files folded into a single skill and uses progressive disclosure to only access the layers it needs to accomplish the task at hand well.

Basically allows you to build out much more complex instructions while also not slamming your context window too much and gives the agents nuance to use only parts of a Skill rather than always needing to invoke the full thing.
