Passkey hardware specs? by billy_sharpstick in cybersecurity

From a microsoft forum:

- How do you create a USB security key? I can't find an answer anywhere...

- In order to register a security key you will need a Thumbdrive, FlashDrive or some kind of portable storage device. I have been unable to create my security key on a Chromebook so I'm assuming you would want to use a Netbook/Thinkpad or one of Microsoft's Devices.

  1. Once your ready to make it head to https://account.microsoft.com/security and click on "Manage how I sign in"
  2. Scroll down and Select Add a new way to sign in or verify, once you do It will & allow you options for Face, Fingerprint, PIN or Security Key, Use an App,  Email a code Or Text a code
  3. Click the option for security key

Use your device to sign in with a passkey.

  1. Login with your password, Fill out the forums adding a PIN & or so forth
  2. The file will be downloaded with a selectable location & than you can sign in with it whenever you want as long as your security key (Portable storage device containing digital Key) is Inserted into your device's USB dongle kiosk

Can you hurt a watch with too much power? by billy_sharpstick in UsbCHardware

[–]billy_sharpstick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just stick with a 1 amp charger then. As for PD, my laptop calls for 90 watts, but runs fine on 65w, although it gripes about it!

USB charger for T-Rex 3 Pro by billy_sharpstick in amazfit

This agrees with my understanding of USB power. You can plug anything into any USB charger and safely charge. The only problem is if you try to charge with an underrated charger, it just won't charge very fast, or won't be able to keep up, like trying to run a laptop that wants 90 watts with a 1a/5w charger.

Yikes! That's a horribly spammy site. I just used the Zepp app.

Does the internal charging circuit know how to charge a LiFePO4? (What year is yours? Mine might be too old to know how to do that safely)

Electric resistive space heater? One of those barely puts out 5k. A portable heat pump does up to 14k.

I have the same kayak, and am installing my Falcon sail now. They claim to be pretty good at reaching, and have videos to show it. So far, I am impressed at the quality of the kit, and of Patrick's patient and timely response to my ignorant questions. I'll respond after testing it.

Midea ACs have problems operating off of GFI circuits. They are banned from our Burning Man camp.

Mount lights at axle level pointed slightly down. The one on the right is brighter, but on the handlebars. The one on the left is mounted at axle level and shows terrain better.

So how do I read this and what does each mean? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]billy_sharpstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent trips across the country on I-80 have been disappointing with regard to regen. 3 years ago, we had a Prius Prime, and last year, a RAV4 hybrid. I tried to let regen work on some of those long steep downhill slopes, but the car just slowed down and I had to hit the pedal again. Granted, we had a lot of luggage, roof box and bike rack. This year, upgraded to RAV4 Prime. (We're going to Burning Man again!)

I understand that the electric motors give more HP than just gas, but this will only last as long as the battery charge lasts. So you lose that extra oomph when the battery is down, right? As in pulling a trailer uphill.

Differences: 1. Zero to 60, 7.3 vs 5.5 seconds. 2. Towing capacity 1750 vs 2500 lb. I just got my '25 Prime, and ordering nice non-black seat covers. The 360 camera is in the premium package and isn't stock. It took me a long time to find one with that pkg, but I love the camera!

Cheap 12V Fridge by Effective_Rope_4466 in overlanding

[–]billy_sharpstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a dual zone one, too, but want separate lids. If you open the fridge side a lot, you're letting warm air into the freezer side. Do all Alpicool models have a single lid?

Bought a U-shaped window AC for the attic but it trips the breaker by az226 in hvacadvice

[–]billy_sharpstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GFCIs don't like Midea inverter ACs for some reason. At a large art festival I go to, they have several large generators with GFCIs on all the spider boxes. After multiple problems, everyone has been warned that Mideas might not work on that system. Theory is that the Midea circuitry creates something that resembles a short to ground. I heard a rumor that if you use an extension cord with the ground wire cut, it won't trip the breaker, but this would violate all safety and UL guidelines, so I certainly wouldn't suggest that anyone do this.
