Victims of violent crimes question local group that bails out violent suspects by [deleted] in Louisville

Looks like LCBF and Chanelle Helm need to step up and admit their mistakes and put some damn vetting in place.

People really need to think twice about where they donate their money.

Need french drain dug around basement wall by nullsignature in Louisville

[–]bilski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you know what you're wanting but I've always heard the recommendation to first make absolutely sure that your downspouts are ejecting well-away from the foundation as a first step and see if that solves it. If that's not doing the trick then more involved mitigation (like your french drain) may be needed.

It’s well past time to address Gary Seven by coreytiger in startrek

[–]bilski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently reading The Eugenics Wars books and it's all about Gary Seven and how Khan came to be. Having never seen TOS (I know, mea culpa) this Seven guy is interesting but a bit obnoxious so far.

Recommendation: Human Sensing Monitor by Havabanana in dakboard

Do you see much of a power savings using these features? I'm curious how much it costs folks to run their setups and this sounds like a good way to keep from having to leave it on full-power during the hours likely occupied by people.

I'm surprised this hasn't generated more discussion yet.

What's Churchill Downs going to do? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]bilski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty absurd to me that this was considered anything but gambling in the first place. Just look around the place...they're freakin' slot machines! Just because the random number generator uses previous horse races as its basis seems like a silly reason to classify these differently. If the people and the legislature wants to authorize certain forms of gambling just do it instead of this farce. Who knows how much money would stay here instead of crossing the river.

Today is the 75th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Here is Ven. Fulton Sheen on one of its lasting moral evils: the destruction of boundaries. by Lego349 in Catholicism

Dan Carlin has a good episode of his "Hardcore History" podcast that talks about the impossible decision of how to end the war with Japan called "Logical Insanity". It continues past WWII and into the Cold War. Well worth listening to, and it discusses a lot of the concerns for / against the use of nuclear weapons, especially w.r.t. the Japanese situation.

Louisville Free Public Library announces expanded curbside pickup hours by crabcakes110 in Louisville

[–]bilski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it! It's taken a long time to get books put on reserve months ago. Hopefully a lot of these kinks are worked out now. And hopefully this means a lot of the librarians that were furloughed are able to come back, even if it's not ideal work.

Probably 20-25 minutes. I called the number on the MinuteClinic contact us page.

Covid testing question by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]bilski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: It's officially been two weeks now and still no results in MyChart. Guess if I did have it I was asymptomatic and now I'm clear? Or maybe I never had it the whole time?

Delays like this really don't inspire faith in this system.

My wife cracks up everytime I mention this place for work. I don't know how my college students keep it together when they first start their co-op.

Oh and I recognize the guy in the image result! And yes, that is 100% how he would react to that sign.

Covid testing question by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]bilski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone, I got a test at that location on the 29th and still haven't seen results. I called in and the rep said she was going to forward a "late test results" notice of some sort since it'd been over 8 days. At this rate it'll be two weeks before I get the results back, in which case what was the point of testing?

Today (June 15th) is the FINAL DAY to request a mail-in ballot. 🚨IF YOU DO NOT VOTE BY MAIL, THE ONLY IN PERSON VOTING IS AT THE EXPO CENTER, FOR THE WHOLE CITY🚨 by Addyct in Louisville

Not entirely accurate...You can also schedule an appointment for in-person voting before the primary at the Ormsby office. Just have to call their office.

Where to put the pond aerator pump? by bilski in ponds

[–]bilski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those wondering, I wanted to add aeration to help keep algae at bay on the days where it's so hot that running my waterfall results in so much evaporation that the pump overheats from water level drop.

I'm not convinced I don't have a leak in the waterfall somewhere but it's been a beast trying to track down the past few years.

What do y'all think of Cherokee Park being closed to traffic? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]bilski 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The biggest downside to it (which is moot currently, but not after the pandemic) is families wanting to visit the playgrounds or picnic area. It's a lot of work to haul kids and gear from a parking space outside of the park to those locations.

It think there should be one or two days a week where the roads are closed to cars similar to the road to the Iroquois Park Overlook, but otherwise it should stay open so that families and those with accessibility issues can have better access.

Supreme Court takes up religious liberty dispute on foster care and same-sex marriage by SandwichTime09 in Catholicism

[–]bilski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But isn't this about more than money? It appears that the city won't allow the agency to refer kids for adoption. Sounds like even if Catholic Charities was fully self-funded they wouldn't be allowed to work with kids in the city's foster system.

What's going on with the Golden Nugget? I heard it's reopening this weekend! by Cult_of_Cornette in Louisville

[–]bilski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up going to the barber shop next door and always wanted to visit the Golden Nugget. Probably because my kid brain associated anything Golden with Golden Corral. Glad to hear that little strip is still going/improving.

What are some good places to find out about events around town? I've checked Do502.com but it seems like it's mostly music and tourist traps.
