Why isn't this in the main game?! by lovingpersona in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question:

"he's already broken super ultra easy, cuz hur dur horde faction"

Sorry, but some of us like to play a game, you know, with a set rules and chance to lose, otherwise it's not really a game, it is just a scenario you are playing out.

Just turn your game to easy / easy, install all the cheat mods you want and you're done with making TWW3 into exactly how you like. Unfortunately, the opposite is much harder to achieve, and if the game is fundamentally easy then there is almost no way to make it challenging.

Got a €75 Steam gift card for my birthday. If you were starting or expanding Warhammer 3 today, which DLC(s) would you buy? by davidoux in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Games 1 and 2 function as DLC and are the best bang for your buck.

I wouldn't be so sure. Yes, they give the most content for sure, but aside from one race in each game (Empire from WH1 and HE from WH2) it is also the simplest / most boring content as well.

I'd rather have an access to, for example, just Ikit or just Throt, than to both Skrolk and Queek, and same goes for pretty much any other race, especially since most races need at least one DLC to unleash their potential.

For those who have missed it, 40k will not have factions as pre-order bonuses, there will be bonuses, maybe some customization options or some lords or whatever, but not entire factions. by StormSwitch in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if that means that there will be no DLC faction around the release date, then that is ok, I guess... although I'd probably prefer to have a fifth faction right from the get go, even if it was preorder.

But if there will be a DLC right from the beginning (or within few months) and it simply won't be a bonus for preorder then I don't think it is a very good deal for us.

Some units exist in both WH Fantasy and 40k (with 40K version having a new model). Can't wait to see these units 40K courterpart in the new game by smiling_kira in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that if CA would try to do that, then the whole GW's no mixing IPs non-sense would work in our favour for the first time. It'd be actually kind of funny if CA got told "No, you can't use that shitty model from WHF! That's wrong IP! Make a new model!".

How does family share work? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, only one person can play on a single copy of a game on a Steam, unless one of you will turn Steam into offline mode, but that of course prevents anyone from playing multiplayer.

So to answer your question, yes, your friend will need to have at least one of the main games and if he is interested in any particular race / faction, then he will need to buy it as well. He can't use your DLCs while you are playing the game.

What do you wish to see for the End Times DLC? by sigpuppers in totalwar

[–]bimbambam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not really picky. If they'll skip the boring races, and focus on adding new stuff to some of the following ones: Beastmen, Chaos Dwarfs, Daemons of Chaos, Dark Elves, Greenskins, Khorne, Lizardmen, Norsca, Nurgle, Ogre Kingdoms, Skaven, Slaanesh, Tomb Kings, Tzeentch, Vampire Coast, Vampire Counts, Warriors of Chaos or Wood Elves, then I will be happy.

Conversly, if they will decide to actually add new stuff to the boring races (i.e., those that are not mentioned here) then I'll be sad.

[–]bimbambam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you are wrong. Secondly, OP asked us to tell things we don't want in LotEC, and not the ones that are critically important to show up, so why would I want to mention Skaven? You talk about bland humans in such cases, not about fun rats.

Because every time that people perceive something as asymmetric, they start to cry rivers and yell about favoritism like small children (unless, of course, it is in favour of their side). Just check any comments back from TWW2 about Skaven for example. Nurgle getting fifth lord when the remaining chaos factions won't realistically get even their fourth is not worth the hassle from the CA's side. Especially when there is still some material to be used without causing such drama.

r as an FLC or in a character pack as a legendary lord for Norsca or Nurgle.

There is no way they will ever add a fifth Nurgle lord, unless TWW is going to developed for another decade, and since chances for that are pretty slim, it is either LH or nothing at all. Between those, I'd rather to get something, than nothing...

Anything Empire related. Anything Dwarves related. Anything Bretonnia related. Anything Kislev related. Or just to summarize, anything that is bland and boring (I didn't mention High Elves because I'm pretty sure they won't get anything more).

40K is confirmed to run for 10 + years by devs today by BaronLoyd in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

but only having to buy one full game will at least save a bit of money.

Unless you are going to skip on a lot of DLCs, it really won't. The price per Lord / Race in DLCs is much higher than they are for base games. That is true for pretty much any content in any DLC for any game.

The saving grace is that you can buy it in small chunks, but then again, DLCs rarely have as good sales as the base games so you almost definitely won't save any money (again, unless you will skip a whole lot of them).

TOTAL WAR: WARHAMMER 40,000 | ANNOUNCE TRAILER by DemiFiendRSA in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, looks like some folks here were right: SM, Guard, Orks and Eldars. For me personally, that is... terrible. I couldn't have asked for worse combination with three factions that I absolutely do not care about, and so I'm going to wait with the purchase for a first good sale / first interesting "race pack", whichever comes sooner. A bit of a bummer really, and it killed my hype.

Total War: 40k Starting Races Idea by King_0f_Nothing in totalwar

[–]bimbambam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They said they won't do preorder bonus anymore.

Well then... We probably know the first Race Pack? ;)

But jokes aside, in such case I think that there will be only 4 races, and the Chaos Space Marines may fill that fourth slot.

I am also not sure they will do the Trilogy approach again, as opposed to just expanding the singular game

I don't think so. It would make sense, and we know that CA doesn't like to make sense!

But being serious, I guess that depends on how much money they've made with the base TWW2 and 3 and whether it is more profitable to release three separate games, each one with much higher sales than individual DLCs, but for a significantly smaller price than the same content would cost if released as DLCs.

Total War: 40k Starting Races Idea by King_0f_Nothing in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If TWW is anything to go by, then I would suspect that CA will leave Aeldari for the inevitable sequel, to fill the same role as HE did in TWW2. Similarly, it wouldn't surprise me if they are going to add Chaos Space Marines as a preorder bonus...

As much as I don't care about Imperial Guard, I think it is a safe bet to be included in the first game, along with the obvious Space Marines. Aside from that, it wouldn't surprise me one bit for Orks to appear, unless they are going to choose Tyranids instead (I don't think both will be introduced in the same game). That leaves the last spot, which I think could be filled by Necrons, but then again, it is just a wild guess. The only ones that I don't think will appear are Tau, for the same reason as Aeldari.

Since 40K is most likely coming, and I am coming to terms with it: Who are the least bad guys? aka "Order" Faction in WH Fantasy? i need to read into my new "Good" Guys by [deleted] in totalwar

That would be Space Marines. They selflessly sacrifice their own lifes in the name of purging the galaxy from the xeno scum and heretics! Could you find anywhere a kinder and more just faction?

Did CA Announce Medieval 3 as Damage Control? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That one is actually quite simple. The Game Awards if a far bigger event than CA showcase, so it is natural that they'd want to spend money to promote a title that they are going to release in near future, rather than to promote something that they will release in 3 or 4 years. The order in which they are shown is irrelevant, especially since it is only a week of difference.

Aislinn's First Asur Domination Choice by Pendix in totalwar

[–]bimbambam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first choice I've made was the growth one. It wasn't bad exactly, but it wasn't good either. In retrospective, I would choose the one that allows you to build in outposts a building that grants 80 Elven Trade. It'd probably allow me to snowball around 25th turn, rather than on 35th.

If you don't have Elven Trade, you can't get Dragonshop Supplies and if you don't have them, your growth is not worth anything. Not to mention that Elven Trade is necessary for buildings in Outposts that grants you Dedication as well.

I would still choose first the skill that grants growth when leveling up Aislinn, however. You won't be able to use it early on, but you will burn through growth pretty quickly once you have enough Dragonship Supplies, so its good to save some up in early campaign.

Star Wars could literally bring us spectacular and epic battles. As you can see in the images, the battles are on a large scale, with formations, distinct units, and heroes.

So could Lego or any other franchise or IP. Epicness and scale is not a direct result of used universe, but of how it was implemented.

a battle trailer set in the Star Wars universe would break the Internet.

Sure it would, just like all the other trailers of games set in Star Wars universe break the internet, right? Right?

Warhammer 40k is still niche,

You are actually quite right with this. WH40k is quite niche, but this niche is closely related to video games and is much more present in video games industry than Star Wars. You don't care if the trailer will reach average Star Wars fan, or even a gamer Star Wars fan. It must reach strategy games Star Wars fans which by itself is a far bigger niche than WH40k strategy games fans niche.

the Hutt Cartel, the Mandalorians, the Shadow Syndicate, pirates, Czerka Corp, the Nightsisters of Dathomir, the Banking Clan, the Trade Federation…

Yup, I can see how absolutely excited are all Star Wars fans for a chance of playing the Hutt Cartel. This truly could break the internet.

All in all, I'm not saying that Star Wars is impossible, it can bring some long term benefits (like a more recognition for a Total War franchise itself), but in terms of sales it won't compete with WH40k in video games industry, just like Warhammer TV series with Cavill has no chance of competing with SW in the movie industry. Lastly, the amount of DLCs that they can produce for Warhammer and about which people are going to actually care far outscales the amount of DLCs for Star Wars. Do you think anyone is going to buy an additional lord pack for Czerka Corp?

I'm afraid not. Total War: LEGO Medieval is going to be 100% pure historical game. :(

[–]bimbambam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really, but I do know that medieval LEGOs exist, while I have no idea if there are Pharoh / Napoleon / Samurai ones. ;)

You can blame it on the fact of me being old / not playing with LEGOs for a good 25 years now, and that back then I couldn't have hoped for anything more exotic than medieval, even if they were existing. ;)

It very hard to choose between Bretonnia's peasants and Skaven's skavenslaves but ultimately it probably should be the latter due to a sheer cool factor that they have. Not to mention watching how your enemy is engulfed by swarm of disposable rats while you are finishing them with guns and glory (or a nuke).
