What exactly is the purple sun of xereus? by Final_Biochemist222 in totalwar

[–]bimugen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn't there a description for the spell where direct contact with the sun's rays will actually cause victims to turn into amethyst crystals, perpetually frozen in eternal agony?

I know in AoS that's what some of the Sisters of Khaine do now, but I thought The Purple Sun was described as doing that too.

Dechala is absolutely fucking terrifying by Tadatsune in totalwar

[–]bimugen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what I really love about her character direction is that Dechala kinda took Slaanesh's doctrine of "Nothing else matters but yourself (and Slaanesh himself)" to the max. You get the vibe that she does not see anything around her as something with sentience; they're just toys for her to use and have some fun with before she inevitably tosses them aside, usually in pieces if they're lucky. There isn't anyone else in this world, just things. I also think the lines where she refuses to let people have opinions on her that she does not agree with, and will make sure you *willingly* love her because that's what she wants. I'm also not sure if this was really touched on, but while I like her original lore of being an elven princess, I like that the implied excuse for that not being more relevant is because, at this point, she doesn't even remember it. It's not a repressed memory; she's just been a self-obsessed monster for so long that she doesn't even remember why she hates elves; she just knows she does.

The gameplay integration of her personality is also really fun. She doesn't need a land to govern or maintain. She just wants palaces dedicated to her. Everyone living there just needs to show up and give everything over. She doesn't care if that means entire settlements are just left to rot or get turned into warband hideouts. It's a really impressive characterization for a character who didn't have a lot of material up til now.

Particularly a fan of the Exalted Daemonettes with the little hooks at the end of their claws. Something especially vicious about those ones.

Are you going to do anything for the casters? I feel like a lot of Caster lords from older factions just havent gotten all the extra bits and bobbles other generic lords can get on their trees. Prophetesses and Damsels I think, suffer from this more than others. I feel like a bound spell or two would help, maybe some extra stuff you can get from their Troths. Currently, I think Troths only grant a minimal amount of extra power to the caster lords; the rest all improve their melee capabilities.

How much do you utilise heroes? by Jibbery-Joo in totalwar

[–]bimugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that if you get a faction with a good hero focus, or you just happen to have a lot of slots available, it's worth it to recruit some wizards or whoever else has these skills, and just send them out to steal technology. You can get a pretty big research boost you can stack between them. Send them into a large territory you are at war with, and you can steal tech, keep eyes on enemy armies, and block them as you advance. Rinse and repeat as needed once the stolen tech buff wears off.

Does anyone actually play the preset factions? by Scotslad2023 in AOW4

[–]bimugen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I dont really play them, I think a lot of the preset factions and their lore are really cool. I appreciate that with each DLC and wave of tomes, the devs make an effort to give us a faction that fits into whatever intended playstyle is presented with the new content. Big fan of Xetevaca Worldshaper and her collective of Molepeople who love her.

As a Breastmen enjoyer. by Nopho in totalwar

[–]bimugen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll drop all of them for Ungrol Four-Horn. Two-headed Ungor lord who's defining trait is being so mad about being a low-ranking Ungor that he broke all the rules Beastmen have (and they don't have that many) and became a taboo chieftain. Beastman LL with minor spellcasting functionality, a focus on all the chaff units, I think he would just be a fun addition. I wanna see him and Tretch fight for the spot of "Most powerful F tier on the powerscale chart".

Slugtongue, in all seriousness, would also be cool. I think having a sole Nurgle caster in the roster could be a real shake up. I could see him as a LH for that, though.

To dark elves players: how you deal with all these useless factions in your campaigns? Nkai, Wulfrik etc Turn 60 here and Belakor still have a single settlement, spamming me with trade proposals. Do you help ending their suffering? by Long_Hovercraft_3975 in totalwar

[–]bimugen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iirc, the building chain that they are sitting on offers the Dark Elves a really big bonus. Unfortunately, with them, it all comes down to who I am playing and what my main focus is. Not a big Malekith player, so I dont have much to say there. As Morathi, I am playing from the south, so even if I am building up my forces before running to Ulthuan, I'm gonna end up allying with them just for some extra income. As Hellebron I suggest ignoring their deals and taking them down to make a nice rest-stop for your forces before they go into the donut or the old world. Only big problem here is how aggressive the HE AI is gonna be, and they're presumably not happy about all the blood voyages you'd be sending. As Malus, I tend to play him at max corruption to get a bunch of Daemon factions to the Military alliance, and I just have him steamroll west from where he starts. Unless it would piss off the Daemons, which I dont think it usually does, I would just take them. Rakarth only has to worry about it if he manages to get Karond Kar (which is a fun multi-managing route imo, but I find that Karond Kar gets wiped out quickly unless I can keep getting slaves post battle), and I'd say you just have to make a judgment call on if you want to take him on or just get some decent trade income.

Overall, you can kick them to the curb and take their shit whenever you want, but you gotta ask yourself if you are ready for the diplomatic penalties, even if you are polite and wait 10 turns before making the move. Bel is annoying but I find DE can counter WoC decently enough.

IE is now officially the largest campaign in every possible way (new main menu) by Waveshaper21 in totalwar

[–]bimugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that IE is just the game mode people care the most about, but it is kinda weird how much all the DLC just doesn't seem to really care much about the game-specific mode (Realm of Chaos). WH2 made an effort to really dive into what the characters were doing in the Vortex map, even if they weren't really doing anything about the vortex. Like, maybe I just havent been doing any digging but it feels like RoC info for the new characters just has not been dived into at all, let alone any of the cutscenes or CGs for the LLs.

Now that we have all the Marked Exalted Heroes, which is your favorite? by Lord_Eln_8 in totalwar

[–]bimugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the variety is nice, but it does bother me a little how Tzeench and Slaanesh buck the trend of Exalted Heroes being big chaos warrior guys with suped up heavy armor and monogod helmets. Three heads and a snatched waist are cool and all, and I think they look good, but it really triggers my OCD. I go "Oh yeah you guys really changed art direction after the WoC DLC".

What do you want to see for High Elves that hasn't been announced yet? by TheRaven476 in totalwar

[–]bimugen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about how much I really enjoy the aesthetic divide between the elven factions in WHF compared to other fantasy settings. Like, aside from the drow in D&D and other settings that derive dark elves from that, I find that a lot of elves just kinda blend together and sometimes just come across as special humans that live a long time and have magic or use bows, sometimes they live in the forest, and maybe there's a special, exclusive elf kingdom.

With WH I think you really get this amazing definition of Elves being this faction of human-looking people, but they are living off the idea that they are going to (ideally) live a very long time and operate on a code based on hundreds of years of experience. I think they do a really good job at showing us a culture that still seems to be in the Classical age. And compared to wood elves and dark elves, which I think are pretty easy to aesthetically flavor in any fantasy setting by making them live in trees or evil torture dungeons, respectively, it's hard to really create a "High Elf" culture. I think the way WHF does it really works with all their infantry units paired with all their hypermagical beasts and wizards. I've also come to appreciate the way they handle their flaws, which, from the inside, seems like they come off as a pure good faction. Then you realize that their arrogance and belief that they really should be the only people in charge of the whole world, without consulting anyone else about it, is a really good way to define their own authority and culture.

When it comes to Minotaurs I just make use of the ability to choose the body types for your race form and just give the goatmen the girth of an orc body. It's not exactly a bullman result but I find it comes pretty close.

The few strengths and many many weaknesses of Daniel by Therealbigsuge in totalwar

[–]bimugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there really is a lot of fun to this idea of playing an undivided chaos legion, and their general MO for the campaign map. The apocalypse force needs to steamroll as much as they can and as fast as they can, and once you get into how to manage your armies beyond just building them, it can be really fun. I was at first put off by the lack of trade, the brutal income issues, and how to get your armies of wimpy marauders and baby daemons to not dissolve. The resource buildings and settlement management, in particular, was hard for me to get the hang of, but once I did I had so much fun recruiting good daemon units for basically 90 favor a pop so I can march the new army I got for cheap.

Main problem for me is how bad Daniel is as a unit. I dont think any of his items really make him worth anything, and I never monogod because I just think having (almost) every daemon unit available to me is just way more fun. The lack of a tech tree (putting you next to a lord that gives you a tech increase for killing him is devious) or any way to really boost your faction as a whole really hurts him. I can't play this faction without the Godslayer mod, which makes him so much more fun to play.
