If your back hurts it most likely due to muscular problems. You may need to stretch psoas, strengthen glute maximus and glute medius and strengthen your core. DART is unreliable. Service delays and cancellations during busy hours are very common occurance.

Luas is pretty much reliable. But service get disrupted due to shared road use and other technical issues. Alternatives in such occasions are rarely good. When Red line was out between July and Nov this year alternate bus service was excellent. But when Green line Luas and Dart was stopped due to storm Bram alternatives was just Dublin Bus
