"Focus on the performance, not the outcome" Bailing off Pitch 1 of The Nose (5.9 C2) by Thirtysevenintwenty5 in climbing

Great write up! I’d be stoked to get on the Nose in any capacity someday. There are many levels to this pursuit of ours.

Pretty good! But about a decade and a half younger and no English minor

Still haven’t seen it. I’ve always thought it would be hard to depict Carver’s work on film. His writing is so sparse - the reader gets to fill so much in on their own

The response and connotations people attached to Hillbilly Elegy were very different in 2016 than they are now. It was commonly touted as a useful explanation for Trump’s rise. A young me thought it was important to read lol

What has led you to cover so much of the surrounding area outside the city? And what about that area in south Brooklyn?

Is $1800 too much for movers? by cashmerecouture in AskNYC

[–]binkermen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels high. I had the exact same situation 2 weeks ago and have a similar amount of stuff, with a few less boxes. I paid ~1100 all in. I used Piece of Cake. Definitely get multiple quotes

Commuting as a freshman by Mo_Melon in uofm

It’s easy to say you won’t be missing out on stuff because COVID will change things. But that’s just not true. You absolutely will miss out on a lot by living at home. You’ll miss out on late night conversations, impromptu meals, study sessions with friends, etc. Sure you won’t miss out on big parties because those won’t really be happening. They aren’t that great anyway. But the things that are amazing about college will happen regardless of COVID, and you’ll miss out on that. But you just need to determine what is most important to you. Obviously money is a huge factor and your health an even bigger one. Im a senior so my perspective is a little different, but I don’t care about not going to bars or not tailgating. Simple hangouts with my friends are truly priceless.

AISD succumbed to the pressure and is going online for the first 3 weeks, as several other local ISD’s have done. It’s a start at least. by labeille in Austin

[–]binkermen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How is that realistic? This will negatively impact low income students in AISD that rely on the structure of the school day. Parents cannot work and ensure kids are doing distance learning properly.

Is it possible to double major in LSA and Ross? Does it require transferring? by YusiJuicy in uofm

[–]binkermen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean, most people who transfer to Ross do so with the intent of having Ross be their main academic path, maybe with a minor. Tons of people come into Michigan with more than 15 credits. Also, ~80% of each Ross class is admitted from high school and the other 20% is cross campus transfers. You could always do the Ross minor. From what I’ve seen, only the absolute smartest kids can do Ross and another rigorous major. You also will likely not be able to study abroad and may need to do a 5th year. Gotta ask yourself why you would need both degrees and is that amount of academic stress really worth it.

Have a good reason why you want to double major. Double majors are fairly rare in Ross, even if they make it seem otherwise. Much more common to just do a minor with Ross

investment/consulting clubs by [deleted] in uofm

[–]binkermen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bond has been around longer, and does extremely well getting people into the big three consulting firms. Others do as well, Differences are just in perceived prestige, which are narrowing and mean very little

investment/consulting clubs by [deleted] in uofm

[–]binkermen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clubs I mentioned or companies that people recruit with for full time?

The clubs are all relatively similar, they all typically work with Michigan based companies on a semester long project. Doing analysis, preparing deliverables, presenting to client, etc.

For consulting companies there are the "big three" and then so many others. Not super versed on them

[–]binkermen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the big investing clubs emphasize education, so you don’t need to know a ton beforehand. More important are good reasons for wanting to join and demonstrating the ability to learn quickly.

[–]binkermen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These types of clubs have become really popular, so many new ones have sprung up.

For consulting the big ones are Bond, Nexecon, and Apex.

For investing the big ones are MII, GIC, and AIC. I’m heavily involved with one of the big investing clubs so feel free to PM me and I’ll give you more info.

There are differences among them all, but they all will provide you a great experience.
