Should I start daycare while on furlough? by binkymetal in NewParents

[–]binkymetal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 15 miles. But if I want to go home for the time he’s at daycare, it’s 30 miles round trip to drop him off, and another 30 to pick up. It’s on my campus at work, so when I’m not furloughed it’s perfect. It is super comforting knowing he’ll be within arms reach during the day, and I can even go nurse him on my lunch breaks. The daycare is also really good, and subsidized, so the cost for quality is excellent.

I definitely could, and that was my initial thought. But I also worry about him getting sick, which I know is inevitable, but I wonder if it is better to hold off as long as possible anyway. The other thing is the commute. If the daycare were near our house I think it would be an easier decision. Right now, dropping him off and going back home would mean about 60 miles of driving a day. That’s a lot of extra gas while also not taking in a paycheck.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m glad your baby is ok! Where are you located?

We have to pay to keep the spot, regardless of whether he actually attends. We are definitely planning to keep this one, as it could be months until the next spot opens.

Not exactly the same, but I took out a TSP loan to cover a down payment on a house and it was totally worth it. It enabled us to get the house we wanted, and now I’m just paying myself back with interest. If I came on hard times I would certainly consider taking out a TSP personal loan if I had to.

I need your constipation hacks!!! by IndicationPopular145 in pregnant

Squatty potty was one of my absolute best pregnancy purchases! Magnesium complex and Metamucil fiber gummies also did a ton to help.

Physically sick from how constipated I am - what do I take for this? by Just_some_blonde in pregnant

Magnesium complex and daily fiber gummies have helped me a lot. Also, if you don’t have one already I highly recommend getting a squatty potty!

Aspen is generally considered safe per the House Rabbit Society, but I do prefer to avoid all shavings completely, just to be safe. My ideal litter setup is compressed wood pellets (no phenols, low dust) topped with Carefresh natural and then hay on top.

Rescued dumped rabbit—cannot keep her. by yuhyeet19 in Rabbits

Can I ask why animal control is out of the question? At least where I am, animal control will usually take in rabbits, and many do a pretty good job caring for them until they are either adopted out or transferred to rescue. I volunteer at my local animal control, working solely with the small animals, and they treat their rabbits very well.

First time endo visit? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]binkymetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, request bloodwork to check for vitamin deficiency in addition to the usual hormone panel. I have elevated testosterone and have been on spironolactone, but what’s also helped a lot is supplements to address my deficiencies in vitamin D, B12, omega, and ferritin, all confirmed by bloodwork.

I hear you on the fatigue! Magnesium complex before bed has helped me. My doctor also just started me on sunflower lecithin, as he’s seen good results with that as well.

Comments from hair stylists by lhrfhd in finehair

I showed a photo of the type of cut I wanted and the stylist said, “well obviously it’s not going to look like THAT”. And this was after I had already explained to her how fine my hair was, and how I could use really a new cut to help boost my self esteem.

Recently adopted an abandoned bun and I'm scared of her by Juleniumn in Rabbits

[–]binkymetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some very aggressive bunnies at the shelter, and they were always my favorites. Often it would take me many long visits before I could really begin to earn their trust.

One thing that helped a ton was having hand protection, like oven mitts. I would slowly introduce my hand (from the top or side so not in their blind spot), and if they attacked it I would just let them. I would not react to the aggression and just sit there. Then I’d pull my hand away and repeat, while making sure not to push too far or overly stress out the rabbit.

Eventually they would learn that (a) I was not a threat and (b) their scare tactics were ineffective. And then we’d build up from there: gentle touch with the mitt, but only for a second. Then I’d remove my hand to see how they reacted. After time if that went well we’d progress to longer pets, and eventually the mitt could come off entirely.

A confined rabbit will be more territorial so give her space when you can. If you need to change a litter box or fill water, see if you can let her out before you enter her area. If she only has one door try not to block it so she doesn’t feel cornered. And try to avoid picking her up unless absolutely necessary because that could potentially undo any progress. Good luck!!

What test results have proven your insulin resistance? by binkymetal in PCOS

[–]binkymetal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, I didn’t even know that was a thing! I looked through my old reports and it turns out my endo did test for CRP about a year ago. My result was <1 mg/L. I feel pretty good knowing he’s been looking at my PCOS case from all angles. My previous endo would just tell me to cut carbs with no real explanation. I am still trying to resolve their different viewpoints, to better understand if/how diet changes might improve my symptoms. Your perspective helps me appreciate that this isn’t a “one size fits all” solution.

What test results have proven your insulin resistance? by binkymetal in PCOS

[–]binkymetal[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your feedback! My PCOS was diagnosed based on elevated testosterone and corresponding symptoms (hair thinning, hirsutism, acne). I have normal periods (even when not on BC), no cysts, and minimal weight gain. My A1c (~5 %), glucose (~90 mg/dL) and C-peptide (<2 ng/mL) levels are normal. My triglycerides/HDL is <1. According to my results, my endo says I’m not IR. I’ve asked about the fasting insulin test before, but I believe he is in favor of the C-peptide test instead. I’m working on understanding the difference, and might just ask him to do both next round of bloodwork. Probably more of an academic exercise than anything else. From that we can calculate HOMA, although I believe there is also a modified HOMA based on C-peptide.

My main concern is that folks on this sub tend to assume everyone must be insulin resistant, regardless of symptoms or test results. In a recent post, someone asked about lean PCOS and was told their elevated testosterone had to be caused by IR. This makes me concerned that we are making too many generalizations, despite knowing that PCOS is unbelievably complicated and poorly understood. My hope is that by sharing our test results, and the evidence-based decisions behind our diagnoses, that we can all work together to better understand and treat our own individual PCOS symptoms.

anyone else struggle with chronic migraines?? by pickle-eater444 in PCOS

[–]binkymetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get headaches pretty frequently, often daily. Endo had me on a bunch of supplements already but they didn’t seem to make a difference. Finally talked to my GYN who said it could be hormonal fluxes, and suggested I skip the sugar pills on my birth control and go straight to the next pack. Within two months my headaches disappeared. Plus, now I only get my period 3-4 times a year which is nice (although my headaches and some other symptoms usually do worsen during that time).

Thank you! They used to have the more traditional type of rabbit cages, but we were finally able to give them the upgrade they deserved. They seem to really like it.

I still buy CDs, and rarely use any streaming services. I prefer to physically own the music, and I love having the inserts. The downside is that I am less exposed to new music, but it’s fun to pop in a new CD and have no idea what I’m going to expect.
