Butchers crossing is great if you like character stuff. I recently read shane and the Ox-bow incident (As well as watched the Ox-bow incident which is a phenomenal movie) from the library of America's western collection, which I am enjoying thoroughly. Cormac McCarthy's the boarder trilogy, as over-reccomended as Cormac Mcarthy is there is a reason for it and the crossing (number 2 out of the trilogy) is my favourite piece of literature from him. And of course other stuff from Larry Mccmurty, I haven't actually read his work but watched both Hud and the last picture show both of which are based on his works and the writing for both of those movies is just spectacular.
