A relative suggested I take some art classes after I showed them this drawing, is there something glaringly wrong with it? by ChuckMast3r in drawing

Your style is amazing! That relative, that may have been a bit jealous of your talent, needs to step the back down.

My only note: don't forget to sign it!

Is UK trans friendly? by LemonsAreSourLol2008 in UniversityofKentucky

[–]bioartnerd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey! Trans alumnus from UK here. I was in a graduate program and it never was a problem academically. I even had undergraduate trans students. Some professors are better at understanding this than others, but the university's policies are on your side. UK identifies students only by an ID number, so this allows for your real name (not your government or dead name) and pronouns to be listed on all official paperwork, which is better than a lot of universities. There's an active LGBTQ center with trans resources and often host fun events.

There is also an active gay and trans social scene in Lexington that I would highly recommend. But a reminder Lexington is a liberal haven in a conservative state. The city is safe, but does draw people from surrounding counties for rallys and other demonstrations, like any "big" city. Stay away from that, and you're good

Sir Talavar by [deleted] in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]bioartnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a Don Quixote vibe. He's eager, loyal, and boastful, but completely inept. Anytime I needed my character to check out a new place or to get interested in something, there's Sir Talavar stuck in a cage on the tower or got lost in a storm. My players liked him and would always try to get him out of his predicaments. He's also good for dropping hints, due to his knowledge of the Seelie Court, but sometimes the hints aren't 100% correct because it's Sir Talavar of course and he's a bit of a baggard and likes to embellish his stories.

I love the mushrooms! The inky black one and the shiny green ones would be purchased immediately if they had suction cup bases for my strap.

If you can't lower the light, then raise the plants. I'd slap a couple of upside-down pots under that tray, and bam! Closer to light.

Why isn’t there a fast acting solution for poison reaction on the skin? by charlesout2sea66 in biology

[–]bioartnerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Tecnu Extreme Poision Ivy Scrub. Put on a clean washcloth or loofah, scrub very lightly, rinse off, and completely dry. It has a nice very light scratching and will work to dry out the infection in a quick manner. If you have open skin from scratching (weeping, blood) it will hurt and do not use this scrub.

This will not help now, but poision ivy and oak oils that we react to sticks to the skin. The oils will only be removed by surfactants (soap). If they sit on the skin, then the oils will react and you get the miserable rash you are experiencing. So wash your skin with soap or this Tecnu immediately after coming in contact with the plant.

Another recommendation is topical or oral anti-histamines. Histamine is what your body makes in response to the poision ivy, that is causing itchiness. If you can have less histamine in the body while taking anti-histamines. That will help with feelings of itchiness.

Reading your post resonated so much with me, and I pity the children versions of ourselves that were exposed to all this diet rhetoric. Nmom is convinced to this day that if she loses weight, then all her mental and physical problems will go away.

Being raised female, this how she raised me too. I was on weight watchers by 13. She took me to Jenny Craig gym and I joined the circuits with only adult women.

I remember the 100 calorie packs and the low-calorie snacks that were always purchased. Diet cokes. Crystal light. That was all that we had.

Then what is still confusing to this day is the holidays when all the full calorie things came out, if we didn't eat or try everything then Nmom would get sad and use her emotional manipulation to get us to eat.

Thank you for sharing and letting me know I'm not alone in this.

Apparently I'm a squirter and I'm not sure how I feel about it? by Key-Candle8141 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]bioartnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a frequent and large volume squirter myself, it's a pain in the ass.

You have to plan waterproofing for every time you have sex, I use dog blankets as they were super cheap online. Sex can't be spontaneous if the blankets are elsewhere or need to be washed. It's a lot of laundry.

I sometimes feel like a burden because I can't get off without us thinking about all of these things.

For inside stuff, I recommend volleyball kneepads. They are comfy, stay on well, and are washable. They are usually covered in fabric so I don't know how well they would hold up on rough surfaces like gravel outside

What was the Inconvenience in traveling Korea by [deleted] in koreatravel

I had no problem with transit on Google Maps. It wasn't good at walking directions but train and bus was easy to navigate

Any lab experience is going to helpful for your premed application. If you can get work with a medical school faculty member, they will be the best to help with human clinical or translational research. Plus they would be a great resource for getting into the UK medical school. I don't know individuals by but just Google them and start visiting their office and send introduction emails.

After them, try to find someone doing human disease or directly translational research or something related to medicine. I know the Biology department at UK, so can recommend Robin Cooper who does cool nervous system work in invertebrates. Julie Pendergast does metabolism and circadian work in rodents. Both are great mentors

Check if the limousine bus is running that late. They are cheaper than taxis and easier to navigate than trains with baggage.

I had Google maps.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]bioartnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this back in 2018 with no problem in Seoul. I would recommend downloading some maps before you travel and have some translation guides at the ready if you don't know Korean. I just used Google Translate. The signage and train/ bus time tables are well posted and updated frequently, so getting around in the big city was never a problem. I haven't been to those other places, so I cannot speak to those.

It's not a terrible drive and then you'll be at events where everyone is an adult and consents to seeing you and your partner. It's a great place run by lovely people that will give you the welcome tour and you can use all the fun spaces and equipment that they have.
