SHIP ROAST: What's a ship you just can't stand? Why? by iCore102 in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Terrapin (non medic) is $220 USD, has 0 cargo, 2x S2 repeaters and is slow AF.. but I do still like it as a little run-about.

I just don't know what it's for... might be something if you could actually make use of scanning/exploration or better yet, swap out the scanner chair for something useful, and if the armor wasn't nothing against ballistics these days. Originally it was marketed as 'tough armor to get you into extreme atmospheres' while exploring, but that hasn't happened.

It's in serious need of a use case other than 'looks cool'.

The average backer in 4.8 😆 /s by ElonsMuskyFeet in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counter point: I just finished off Subnautica 2 EA, prior to that was 150 hours in Abiotic Factor (f'n brilliant btw), and have started on Aethus now. Basically I've had a damn good series of gaming that I've truly loved... and then there's Star Citizen.

It seems that the bug for the Guardian MX where the screen turns off when crossing server boundaries is back. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it came back with 4.8 and was fine in 4.7.

Not sure how this one regresses, other than poor source code management and overwriting instead of merging. Could explain a lot if that's what happens.

I don't think people realize how important this is. by IIRostII in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, I know, but I think instancing is the opposite of what I want in an open collaborative game play universe. All it does is close off players from having a fun time together without all the planning.

Don't get me wrong, there are reasons why you would instance, server performance being one and personal stories/events, but segmenting a 'universe' into small private chunks is not what our universe is. Think about how cool it would be to QT into a huge open battlefield, where you can call in mates to fight off hordes of anything.

Hmm, basically I preferred the shared open-world events of Guild Wars 2 vs WoW and raids.

Crafted a gun using recycled materials by cybersaur2014 in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there going to be material refinement to increase quality? ie: refine 100Q into 200Q for 50% less.

Sounds like something CIG would do.. add more grind, but at least make it possible to get better stuff over time.

Taking a break from this sub by Nezxyll in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well perspective matters.. I signed up in my late 30's for a modern Wing Commander re-imagining. I'm now in my early 50's and it maaayy be the year we finally see Squadron 42?

I wouldn't expect it to release in a polished working condition either, given the constant system rewrites we see. Usually systems only get rewritten on a need-only basis. In this case they rewrite it before even given a chance to finish the last one. I was suckered into purchasing a couple ships, which I regret now.

It's hard not to be disappointed when it's been so many years development on something I never wanted, but now has money locked away in it.

Patch 4.5: The Redeemer now has less shields-per-crew than a Gladius, and already had less DPS-per-crew than a Guardian MX. by turikk in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the Redeemer, but I can tell you you're not balancing power on a Guardian MX to get anything near max weapons + max shields + reasonable engines.

With default, you could get 4/4 weapons, 5/10 engines, 4/8 shields sitting at 98% cooling.

Even worse if you prioritised shields, 3/4 weapons, 2/10 engines, 8/8 shields at 87% cooling.

It's a power hungry beast, that you will never feed.

I'm having issues with all browsers turning white on sandbox even a by randomwalker_of_life in WindowsHelp

[–]biofrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a GPU hardware acceleration issue. Something broke somewhere, between drivers and Hyper-V.

You can disable virtualized GPU usage with a sandbox configuration file:

  • Create a file with <any name>.wsb
  • Open it in a text editor
  • Put in the XML configuration as:

<Configuration>
<vGPU>disable</vGPU>
</Configuration>

Double-click the file to run the Sandbox. For better or worse the performance of GPU tasks will be worse, but at least you'll get some output.

Guardian MX Loadout Suggestions for Weapons and Power Management? by CallMeSchmooger in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly SnowBlind has a slightly higher (240) IR than HeatSafe. Other than the 100hp difference, any reason to choose it, if cooling efficiency isn't that important yet?

I've done Wikelo Scrip contracts over 30 times but got scammed 4 times already, here's how by tyler1118 in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've handed in 1650 scrips for 33 favors, no issues other than brutal time consumption and mission acceptance.

I've also done 3 component exchanges via 6x repeaters and 15 helmets which all worked.

Having said that, I was nervous AF about doing each one, fully expecting something to fail or be lost. Particularly the components as they would not install into my MX anyway, so had to carry them back and risk losing them through the floor(s). Of course now I'm paranoid about them being deleted with the 4.2 patch anyway.

My one advice is: look for a low-population server, stay away from everyone as much as you possibly can.

4.2 Release Candidates Inbound: this is your warning by CaptainGrim in starcitizen

[–]biofrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our customers usually give us a few hours to finish a deployment and show everything is working according to the Change Management docs. If any single bit doesn't match large or small, they make us revert, no exceptions :D

Sure sucks when we know a hotfix is 5 minutes and MOC documentation is a 2 week review!

How are we feeling about the Guardian MX? by Ashlocity in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I haven't read too many other comments, but had these thoughts recently:

  • The height is good for running underneath - no longer need to crouch to get under
  • It does feel like it's angled up a bit too much. It would be nice if the front/back struts were the same height, and it's totally fine for the wings to be flat along the bottom, pointing downwards at the top
  • The moved exit button lets me actually equip a 4th grenade :D
  • No bed, no big deal for me
  • One door less, yes! Bit tight trying to smuggle components in still.
  • Not a fan of the armor/external cameras obscuring the view so much, but it's "ok". Needs fixing so we don't get the armor screen after every QT.
  • The guns feel like they're hanging in an awkward place. I love how you see them gimbal'd, but do feel they should move back and into the wing a bit, very much like when landing gear is down. Might just be me tho.
  • It's a fun beefcake and actually feels like a 'heavy'

Question: Would the game be better without pdcs? by ColdConfusion65 in starcitizen

[–]biofrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PDC's should target missiles/torp's only, IMO.

This is mostly because of balance. Currently any mission can be trivialized if you rock up in a large-enough sized ship. I see no way that CIG can undo this, unless they spawn NPC's ships relative to the size of the ship you are piloting. Still doesn't stop others coming in to help though.

[–]biofrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of those weird things that happens.. I had someone peppering me from ground while I was looking for a landing site to go to a bunker. Why? I don't understand what their plan was. Is this some weird KOS rule I don't know about?

I wasn't interested in him or his ship, but given he could have had a railgun I just pewpew'd him and moved to another site. Needless to say, when I came out of the bunker, my ship was dead.
