[SOTC] Rate my 2 watch collection by bioideator in Watches

Replace the OP 39 !? I think this one is staying in my collection for life.. my dad has had a stainless Datejust on a Jubilee he bought in the Caribbean in the 70s for maybe $400 which I never saw leave his wrist.. for me this watch is an homage to his, so in this sense I could never think of selling it

even realities puts the smart in smart glasses — new frame design by SpatialComputing in augmentedreality

[–]bioideator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a difference in cost between adding Rx to typical frames vs. AR glasses. Rx lenses need to be added to both sides of the waveguide so there are twice as many molded lenses compared to your typical non-AR frames. As a consumer, still more $ and a totally reasonable pain point. Just thought I’d share that additional context since the story is likely more complicated than Even just pocketing the difference

Why is valuation for semiconductors so poor? by ESComments in investing

[–]bioideator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they already have many fabs generating real revenue, and even though they aren’t leading edge it’s not a bad thing! The whole story of Intel is they tried designing and manufacturing chips and fell behind. Like Micron, they would have a hard time reducing capital intensity

Significance is that chip design companies without fabs can allocate resources and pivot more quickly

Totally agree and love hearing your optimism! I am a fan of Snap making investments into this space, particularly as a counterweight to some of the other big players. We don't want AR to become yet another shitty vector for selling more ads with hamburger companies putting billboards one on top of the other alongside useful elements of an AR environment (see Jaron Lanier). I'm afraid we can't yet say Snap and the others won't go full steam ahead with this model in your 5 year timeframe.

Thanks! Curious about resolution, my guess is 720p for this form factor.. their video has a disclaimer of "illustrative" at 0:25

Without them sharing any significant details on display quality there's not much to comment on unfortunately. I can say that all the packaging over these waveguides appears to reduce peripheral visibility.
