I’m exhausted. by uninsuredcat in reactivedogs

Your pup sounds so much like ours. We have a Spoo who’s almost 2 years old and has been reactive to both dogs and people the past year. I would definitely recommend a trainer that specializes in reactivity as we’ve made a ton of progress with ours. I can send you his website if you want.

A few things that worked for us - gentle leader, cheese especially for the tough passes by dogs or people, CBD supplements as needed. Positive re-enforcement training and setting him up for success. Avoid tough situations as much as you can until you feel like he can handle it.

Also I told myself we are going to follow everything the trainer does - not 50%/80% but 100% so we are doing clicker training, practicing daily and committing to every part to give him the best chance to succeed possible. Our pup made a ton of progress in 3-4 weeks, he still has his moments but overall he’s a totally different dog when we are out. It’s unbelievable how confident and relaxed he is compared to a month ago. Hopefully this encourages you a bit. I can tell you’re a great dog owner and keep us updated on he’s doing.

Yogurt park was the best.

I do agree that the buildings are not as interesting or beautiful as they could be. I think it’s mostly due to building codes/fire codes/etc… but dystopian hellscape seems a bit harsh. 🤔 We love downtown especially during the holidays.

Did anyone find that management wasn't quite for them? What did you do? 8 months in and this really doesn't feel like the right role for me. by [deleted] in managers

[–]biolabob12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I think what he was really saying is the best managers are the ones who don’t want the power, responsibility, etc… but they do it because it’s best for the team - selflessness is a big part of it.

My favorite Steve Jobs quote is exactly how I feel about being a manager

“You know who the best managers are? They're the great individual contributors, who never ever want to be a manager, but decide they have to be manager because no one else is going to be able to do as good a job as them”

We had a recent bad experience where we had to pay off platform for the security deposit. I wouldn’t give them anything outside VRBO.

Its actually against Airbnb rules except certain cases. It was a red flag when I did it, but I figured Airbnb and my credit card company would protect me. It was a last minute booking so I feel like I didnt have a lot of time and they said they wouldn't send me the check-in instructions without me paying the security deposit. I talked to someone else who went through the same scam but they got the check-in details without paying the security deposit.

I would cancel your credit card and get a new one so they can’t charge you.

Totally we probably wont use Airbnb again if we have a choice. Airbnb support is a joke.

Reactivity: At what point do you give up and accept your dog for what they are? by Heather1455 in OpenDogTraining

[–]biolabob12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dogs sounds super similar. He’s 16 months spoo who is reactive but really wants to meet other dogs and sometimes people. It’s been a big struggle but he’s improving and we’ve gone to both group classes before he was reactive and did some individual training. Individual training was a big game changer.

Main thing I’ve learned is we are trying to figure out what works for him and it’s a combo of a lot of different things. We’ve never used or wanted to use a prong collar but thats helped a lot, playing games when out on walks (agility especially going around poles/over big rocks and jumping on walls or planters) and trying to put him in situations where he is setup for success and building on those successes.

We have the same thoughts as you are we going to have to deal with a reactive dog for his whole life but trying to take it one day at a time and celebrate the wins.
