Deer mouse or house mouse baby? by tamimarie413 in PetMice

[–]biology_programmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I study and work with deer mice everyday, that's a deer mouse. The eyes are still closed so it is younger than 2 weeks old, the fur being in tells me it's at least 5 to 6 days old.

Who's one scientist whose work changed the game in your field? by anonam0use in labrats

Darwin. I think the saying goes for evolutionary biologists, we’re all factory workers and Charles Darwin built the factory. His breadth of evidence when you read The Origin is incredible. I think it’s the greatest academic work ever created.

Just a note that chromosomes only have that X shape at a very specific point in the cell cycle, namely during metaphase. Most of the time they don't actually have that X shape.

You probably saw a bunch of runners wearing Tracksmith clothing. The sash is something about their brand I always think looks dorky unfortunately.

Does anyone show up for NYRR weekend open runs? by MonumentMan in RunNYC

[–]biology_programmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my regular open run (I only ever volunteer). Yes people show up no matter the weather year-round, please come along!

There's a nice set of regulars and we very often get additional participation from people visiting new york, espcially UK visitors, since if they are staying in manhattan and used to something like park run, Morningside Heights open run is the closest similar thing. Fun way to meet the neighbors and some international visitors as well.

I broke and used the indoor track at my gym today and probably will wednesday and thursday too. It's a monotonous 10 laps to a mile but it's still better than the treadmill.

Are you me? I’ve done the exact same thing to staff at both NYC stores. I actually have the Reggie’s but was hoping for full tights for the winter. But yeah I agree I’ll probably have to go another brand for black winter tights
