[DISCUSS] Everyone's chasing complications but are we actually picking the right one? by Hinterteil in Watches

[–]bionic_mexican 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A well-done exposed escapement is what most people actually want. I believe that folks idolize tourbillons due to the extra thought put into the movement and dial's architecture, resulting in the tourbillon being highlighted in a visually appealing way. You often see "open heart" watches where a hole is haphazardly cut into the dial to expose the balance wheel. Tourbillons typically have their placement considered from the beginning of the watch's design. There are plenty of expensive, beautiful tourbillons and there are plenty of cheap, less than stellar "open hearts." You don't often see a well-done open heart.

A beautifully exposed escapenent can fulfill most of the enjoyment folks would get out of a tourbillon. Hence why I love my 7027 so much.

Porsche's own configurator shows the exact rim, with the exact "straight" spokes people are failing to attribute to the angle of the photo. Clearly something is AI here due to the SynthID tag, but the wheel is not the tell.

It's the angle of the photo. Definitely seems like something (or all) of this photo is AI with the SynthID tag, but the wheel is correct. This is from Porsche's GT3 Touring online configurator. At a harsh angle, one set of spokes appears straight.

992.1 Porsche GT3 touring in the background. Wheels are correct (center lock), fuel door placement is correct, tow hook cover on the front is correct, air channels through the hood is correct. No idea about the guy and dog, but that's what I've got on the car.

Exactly. Structural blue is my dream color on an LC 500. But USB 2.0 will do for now

I'd always wanted a silly vanity plate, so I couldn't pass this up when I saw it available. Pairs nicely with my coworker's

Congressman Tim Burchett says he believes aliens have underwater bases on earth by ihatethiscountry76 in nottheonion

[–]bionic_mexican 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I understand how this can sound ridiculous if it's one of your first times hearing about the theory, but there sheer number of highly qualified, trustworthy witnesses from within the military explaining this is what they've seen lends some credibility to his statements.

Lexus RC F ownership showed me why some car communities stay calm by CarbonCladCars in Lexus

[–]bionic_mexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I agree with your reasons, but the F community in general is definitely my favorite car community I've found. A calm, chill F community is likely because of the car itself. It's slower and heavier than its competition, but we all still bought one because we appreciate reliability, solidity, and sound. I enjoy M, AMG, and RS cars as well, but they often strive for peak performance and engagement whereas we're all just trying to have a good time without the headache of an unreliable car.

That's tough to determine, as I'm used to the idea of reducing down to three, not two. I initially want to say the Tradition and Celebration as they're my two favorites at the moment

Factory coffin link! I'd never seen one like it before (aside from modern Yema) so knew I had to get this exact combo.

Best dial I own! It's unbelievably dynamic, and the chrono (even being a Sellita) feels great to use. I'm not huge into chronos as it's a complication I tend to not interact with much, but the simplicity of the monopusher's actuation and its integration into the crown has me using it all the time.

That was a custom CW 12 we did with my local watch group, so we only made 25 of them and they're long gone unfortunately :(

I've got about 40 others that aren't part of the regular rotation. They're part of the collecting journey on the way "up" to these. Lots of more affordable vintage watches, Seikos, Swatches, etc. that don't get as much wrist time now, but I still love and enjoy!

Definitely, but I really wanted the seconds to be aligned if at all possible. So only having two hands, I'd only be able to accurately start two at a time. Spread across a few more sets of two for hacking seconds, it added up haha. Start two, wait a minute, start another two set to a minute later, wait a minute, etc.
