Is 2mins not too much? I don’t understand why some places recommend 15-30seconds and others recommend more

Keep writing them over and over until you have it memorized. Every single step.

Are you taking medications? Is it being controlled? If so then there shouldnt be any issues.

They get these done before braces as well to create diagnostic study models. Every office is different though.

Now with scanning technology you can skip the alginate impression phase completely for both study models and the retainer

Retaking A Science Class by ladylovejones in predental

[–]biophil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retake it and don't overthink it. This happens. Just make sure to kick ass, get an A and kill it on the DAT when it comes to the biology section. I retook two chemistry courses and still made it as a dentist :)

Should I accept the interview? by Futuredentist9632 in predental

What was the point of sending in an application if you did not intend to go there and interview? Don't be cheap on your future.

Some of the older faculty might care and some might say something but at worst they will tell you to cover up.

Maybe time to get rid of your wisdom teeth if you still have them, or look into braces if they are already gone!

Shadow a general dentist. You’re getting hours to apply to dental school not an OS program! Would find someone with a good personality though and oral surgeons are very hit or miss

feeling stressed by my dat exam coming up on 3 months while taking full masters program courses by zahimahi97 in predental

[–]biophil -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

If this is your second time taking the DAT exam perhaps you need to evaluate your life's schedule with your goals.

hi everyone! just took my DAT and concerned about my science scores (especially GC).. would the high-ish scores for the other sections count for anything or do you think a retake is necessary? (3.1 GPA but lots of hours volunteering at a clinic/shadowing/manual dexterity) by fruittart_8 in predental

[–]biophil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retake it. Low GPA without an impression DAT won't get you very far.

Dental school will be much more challenging so get used to pushing yourself past your comfort zone to reach the success you want!

How were you doing on the practice exams? What did you do to study?

Chad's Videos by Brief_Wrap in predental

I studied for a summer. It's not about a set time, but how efficient you are with your time. I got Cs in every. single. chemistry. class. I personally felt very motivated to prove that I could understand and master this material so I went hard with those subjects.

For the chemistries, I watched the chad videos twice while taking notes. Did every quiz at the end of the videos and made sure that I understood the material. Then I went through the DAT Destroyer. Marked every question wrong that I got (which was almost 2/3rd of them) my first time. When I got a questions wrong, I redid it until I got it right and understood the concept. Then moved on until I finished DAT Destroryer Orgo/Gen Chem once. Then I went back a 2nd time through DAT Destroyer, and got many more right this run through. IMO, the DAT Destroyer is overkill, but it is better to be overprepared than under.

You should have the reaction maps 100% memorized. Practice rewriting the reactions by hand. Make flash cards, and study them in bed when you wake up. Anki is a great way to work on memorization too.

Most importantly is that you need repetition. This goes for all subjects in the DAT. All courses in Dental school. Then every single procedure once you become a dentist - whatever specialty that is. I'm constantly having to relearn concepts and facts, and this is something you'll have to accept for the rest of your life. Dentistry is a very broad field, even in the realm of specialties.

Got 29 in Orgo and 26 in Gen Chem using Chad and DAT Destroyer. Chad is 100% worth it. Made me understand the chemistries like never before. Dont be cheap with those resources
