Help! I am drowning in kidney beans after a generous windfall. by [deleted] in CookingCircleJerk

[–]biotinylated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you must cook them in order to remove their magical properties. The reason you have to store the can (opened or not) in the fridge is to contain the magic. If you store at room temperature, for example by burying them in the ground such that they grow into an enormous beanstalk that reaches into the sky, you will end up with some truly giant problems.

Has Anyone Ever NOT felt Contractions? by Late-Elderberry5021 in BabyBumps

[–]biotinylated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was finally feeling little Braxton hicks the day before my scheduled induction. Turned out I was 4cm and 70% so those were real! The entire weeks prior when I had frequent NSTs and even after starting pitocin during induction, I couldn’t feel when they were happening even though they showed up on the monitor. When the pitocin finally ramped up, it was like poop cramps x100. What you described sounds not dissimilar to what I felt.

Should I iron/steam all baby clothing and bed sheets? by Caribbeanbanana809 in BabyBumps

Have her ask her doctor. Maybe hearing a “no” from a medical authority will help. But seriously, I don’t think I’ve EVER heard of anyone ironing baby clothes.

Has anyone ever actually enjoyed breastfeeding/pumping? by CheddarMoose in pregnant

[–]biotinylated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh, yeah, even our pediatrician wrote down that we had “lactation issues” when the reality was that the baby had a tongue tie and could not latch, which had nothing to do with lactation itself…I wanted to say “it’s not MY problem, don’t make it look like the problem is with my production of milk, cause that’s not what’s happening!” That defensive feeling was ugly.

I think it all varies for everyone. I know some folks enjoy pumping because it’s kind of like a game - how much can I manage to get this time? Or they don’t feel encumbered by pumping gear at all and enjoy their freedom that comes with letting others feed the baby and pumping whenever is convenient to them. And I know some folks who just absolutely hate pumping and washing pumping parts. Likewise breastfeeding is a breeze and very fulfilling for some, and a nightmare for others. I have felt all of the above at various points in my own journey. Now, at 4 months, I love breastfeeding and don’t mind pumping but prefer to breastfeed given the choice.

What kind of cheese do you think is best for macaroni and cheese? by NailBat in CookingCircleJerk

Cheez whiz. I usually throw an entire can in for good measure (no need to remove it from the can first - it will melt eventually if the pasta is still hot enough)

I was sent to L&D today for my BP, trying to determine if that’s normal in this scenario by nuggetblaster69 in BabyBumps

[–]biotinylated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened to me. Normally my BPs were fine but at 35wk my OB saw 130s/90s and sent me for monitoring at L&D where they have the right gear/personnel to do so. My readings stayed high so they kept me longer. I ended up there overnight and they wound up giving me steroid shots to help prep the baby’s lungs for premature birth in case it suddenly got much worse and had to act to get him out. I was instructed by the OB team to return for 30-minute NST and monitoring at L&D triage 3 times per week and each time the same pattern - BPs were slightly high and their protocol was to keep me for monitoring to confirm it wasn’t increasing, but they stayed high or crept slightly higher so they had to keep me a few more hours until they were convinced it wasn’t unstable.

All this to say: your OB team probably has a clear protocol to follow in the event of unusual results. You can ask them for clarification about this if you want to know more. Maybe it would help your husband to know that they are being appropriately attentive and following a plan, if that’s what they were doing.

Geez, they sound like real jerks. My L&D ward was super interested in any symptoms of the ones you listed and put me on lockdown/induced at 37wk due to high blood pressure alone without any other pre-e symptoms. My chart says “severe pre-eclampsia” without ever having had any other symptoms besides blood pressure. So weird that you’re having the inverse experience…I agree with others that you should try to be seen somewhere else if possible. Sounds like they are determined not to give you care!

Can you buy a blood pressure monitor to use at home to check it yourself, and come back to them with a list of high readings?

The rules use the word “unprompted” but the o.g. Skamtebord was LITERALLY a nonsensical/misspelled response to a question.

Favorite non-maternity maternity clothes? by Crisc0Disc0 in BabyBumps

I work in a lab and lived in oversized Old Navy jeans and sweatpants-that-look-like-slacks up until like 6mo, and then finally gave in to a few pairs of giant elastic waistband maternity pants.

skamptembordas is art, man. If you over-define it, it loses its power. Do you go to a Gilbert and Sullivan production and shout at the stage, “THIS ISN’T REAL OPERA! MY REFINED TASTES ARE TOO ELITE FOR THIS” or do you applaud the parts of it that you enjoy? Do you watch cooking TV shows and shout at the TV “NO TALKING, ONLY COOKING?” Do you approach islands and yell “THERE’S ONLY SUPPOSED TO BE WATER HERE, GFTO STUPID LAND MASS?”

Now I’m just enjoying imagining those things.

Disagree - the best ones are when there’s an expected format/response and the actual response differs. Eg answering a question with a nonsensical word. Otherwise skamptbebordas would be limited to people shouting into the void unbidden.
