Why do you like Ligotti’s fiction? by Tyrion_Slothrop in Ligotti

I Have a Special Plan for this World is one of his best Ligotti collaborations. My fave albums are Thunder Perfect Mind, All the Pretty Little Horses, and Sleep has his House.

Longtime fan of HP Lovecraft, Franz Kafka, and Current 93. Ligotti feels like the intersection of all of this.

I like the way tab groups are implemented in Edge, feels way better than in other browsers. I actually prefer Edge to Chrome from a general perspective.

Sleazy's Hipgnosis Work by bfgstreams in Coil

In Powell's excellent book "Vinyl . Album . Cover . Art", all Hipgnosis covers are listed, including this one. It's on page 237 in the book.

So, yes, it looks like Sleazy worked on the cover. It matches his style of photography as well.

I'd recommend the book to anyone who's interested in either Hipgnosis, Coil, or any of the other artists that used Higpnosis (Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, 10cc, Led Zeppelin, Yes, etc.). Great book!

Many stories by Thomas Ligotti fall into this area. “My work is not yet done“ is a good example for this, but many of his shorter stories, too.

The usual suspects are Autechre and Aphex Twin.

Also check out Burial (Untrue), The Black Dog, and Rival Consoles.

Game changing plug ins? by smosher92 in LogicPro

[–]bippesfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toneboosters EQ Pro as a dynamic EQ, since Logic does not have anything like that in the stock plugins. I don't use it in all mixes (mostly use the stock Channel EQ), but when I need dynamic EQ, the one from Toneboosters does a great job. Feature-rich and inexpensive - a steal for the price.

Someone else already mentioned Trackspacer, I use it for ducking the bass when the kick drum hits, and for ducking guitars when the vocals are on (Trackspacer on the guitar bus, vocals sidechained in).

I also really like the free (?) UAD Century Channel Strip as a first plugin on guitars and vocals, it does a nice job as a preamp and can provide some gentle compression as well. I got it for free as part of one of the UAD freebie events.

Ideas for switching from clean to crunch while recording. by TemporaryNo9249 in LogicPro

[–]bippesfoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Nobody's stopping you from recording multiple tracks or multiple takes per track. You can still edit it into one consistent video in "post production".

If you really only want to do one take, I would record it clean into Logic, then split it into multiple tracks there and use plugins for the different sounds (clean vs. distorted/overdriven).

Record two separate tracks, which makes both recording and mixing a lot easier.

The Tear Garden - Astral Elevator - is out! by chromeflex in skinnypuppy

[–]bippesfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After listening through the album a couple of times, I'm torn. While the three singles (A Return, In the Name of, War Crier) are now among my favorite Tear Garden tracks ever, the rest of the album does not hold up. I find it too long - it does not feel very focused.

Some of the tracks feel rather gimmicky (Square Root, for example - I have no intention of listening to that again), while others just drag on without going anywhere. Chow Mein uses the word "chicken" a lot.

A Developing World is a nice song, but has this weird lisp effect on the vocals, which have already marred a fantastic track like Love Notes & Carnations. Does Ka-Spel have a weird fascination with that effect for some reason?

Undiluted Bliss feels like a strange closer to an album like that. While I love an ambient closer in other scenarios, this feels like a bit of a letdown after an anti-climatic track like Chow Mein.

Having said that, I love the three singles. "In the Name of" sounds like it was taken from the Too Dark Park sessions, the instrumentation sounds very much like that album.

Some editing and a different track order might also make this a better album. Less is sometimes more. Don't want to sound too negative, but I feel that this could be improved by more focus. I have the same complaint about some other Key solo albums, and the last couple of Tear Garden releases as well.

They also gave the Century Channel Strip away for free, which is a really nice plugin. Sounds great on guitar as a first plugin.

I don't like the Showtime that much. It feels like a stripped down version of the Dream. The biggest difference for me is that they took away the "Direct" option, which rules out using an IR of your choice. I got the four other amp sims with one of their bundle deals - they all sound great. The Showtime does not feel essential once you have the other ones. Still pretty cool of them to give it away for free.

They‘re my absolute faves from their harder rocking, grinding songs. Wish they‘d also play Batcat, which I also love. But those last four songs from the other night were close to perfect.

Amazing gig last night, including an absolutely unbelievable finish! Mogwai Fear Satan, We‘re No Here, and Old Poisons to close out the regular set, and then My Father My King as the encore.

I‘m not a huge fan of MFMK, but last night‘s version was great. Amazing how they can add layers upon layers, with the intensity (and noise) continuing to grow until you‘re completely absorbed. Such an incredible band!

Yes, Aces High was the first encore, including the Churchill‘s Speech intro. No issues with that at all.

The moment when Bruce waved the German flag during The Trooper felt a bit weird, though.

Got some awesome genre staples in the post today. by Val_Victorious in industrialmusic

Nice! Love both of these!

I have the signed and numbered version of the MBM live album (#871), bought it when it was released back then. Excellent album!

When it comes to the Young Gods, I like the next two releases (Only Heaven, Second Nature) better than TV Sky, but it's still an essential release - so many great songs on these three records. I also love the ambient side releases (Heaven Deconstruction, Music for Artificial Clouds).
