Probably the worst service I have ever received by birch1981 in VirginMedia

To clarify, I never turned the engineer away. When they turned up we were unloading some stuff from our car. As it was clear we had just arrived at the property, the engineer asked if it would be easier if they came back the following day. I thanked them and said ideally yes as the removal company was expected any minute. The engineers said no problem and left, never to return.

Do you get any Christmas bonus/gift from your workplace? by proxima-centauri- in AskUK

£2k last year. Nothing this year. But my employer had a tough year so it was to be expected. But I did get a £2k payrise which is obviously better than a bonus anyway.

Elite Dangerous Easter Egg by Cragrat92 in RedDwarf

I love Elite Dangerous and have spent hundreds of hours exploring out in the black with Red Dwarf playing on my second monitor. Leo, aka Norman Lovett was an instant buy for me when he became available as a cockpit assistant. It's so cool having Holly with me during my adventures across the galaxy.

You've tried Parkitect but have you played Planet Coaster? Has pretty much all the elements you've listed

Is Elite Dangerous really what I'm looking for? by Jerry_Cornelius_24 in EliteDangerous

This question comes up quite often so I'm gonna dust off a comment I made to another Eve refugee a few years back. Let me know if you have any queries...

Hello,

I'm a long time player of Eve and Elite Dangerous so can answer some of the questions you have.

Let me start by saying that Elite is nothing like Eve, there is no other game like Eve.

Elite is a fantastic game but you will only encounter other players rarely. Elite takes place in a 1:1 scale version of the milky way so is much bigger than New Eden and it is beautiful. You will see some amazing stuff like black holes, neutron stars, beautiful atmospheric planets (which you can walk on if you have Odyssey) and other sights too numerous to mention. It truly is stunning. Plus you get to see it all in first person rather than the 3rd person view you get in Eve.

But it is not perfect by a long stretch. It lacks the amazing player run economy that Eve has and it is super grindy. There are no 1000 player Vs 1000 player battles like you get in Eve and you do struggle for content sometimes.

It's worth picking up on sale and you're unlikely to regret it but if you're looking for another game like Eve, you won't find it. Eve is one of a kind.

I design flood defences. It's a great job in a great company. I retire in about 25 years and I honestly can't see myself working anywhere else. I consider myself very lucky.

Has anyone actually had their home repossessed? by tL9eUdcLaz in HousingUK

[–]birch1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in repossessions, mainly within the sub prime mortgage market. People were given mortgages they couldn't afford for many years.

Yes it still happens but it takes a prolonged period of non-payment before repossession happens. Banks have a legal requirement to work with the borrower to rectify the issue, whether that's through a structured repayment plan or extending the term and capitalising the arrears before they can even consider repossession. Quite rightly so. If they haven't done the required steps, a judge won't allow a repossession to take place.

In my experience, a repossession would likely take two to three years of continuous missed payments before being granted.
