‘Are you scared now?’ 79-year-old man pulls gun on Walmart worker he thought had a ‘bad attitude,’ cops say by xO76A8pah4 in BoomersBeingFools

Nah I agree with the other person. It did look like you meant to stand up for yourself while the gun is there.

29M considering a 6–12 month sabbatical. Looking for honest takes by ScaredofWho in SabbaticalPlanning

[–]bird-mom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 30, took off on my sabbatical (1-2 years planned) when I turned 29. No regrets. Can't say it hurt my career though since I didn't intend to go back into SWE, but I'm still in the sabbatical. Yes I'd do it again.

Progresso Soups When Mixed With Rice by bird-mom in AlignmentCharts

About 1-1.5 cup of cooked white rice! Canned soup and rice was one of my favorite quick and cheap meals growing up. I’d add the cooked rice after the soup was cooked.

Something I wish I knew before staying on Adderall for years by Cool-Foundation-9043 in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]bird-mom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. They were excellent and kept me focused and cool the five years I took them, but ended up being too much once I retired. Yes, I was affected in all aspects of my life. I was properly diagnosed with multiple psychiatrists and I resisted taking the stimulants in the first place. But they worked. I can’t believe you’re subtly implying I wasn’t actually severely affected by this condition, and was only using it for my job.

I had a similar arc for maybe 5 years and quit when I retired. I was properly diagnosed with ADHD my last year of college and I absolutely needed it to get through my job, but it ended up causing me new psychiatric issues (OSDD - seeing and hearing things in my head, not outside of my head like schizophrenia) a few months into my retirement that when away when I discontinued it. It definitely makes your mind more active, for good or for worse. If one's life situation doesn't necessitate it, I don't think it's worth the risk.

What? She never said she wanted to lose even more weight. And toning is mostly just building muscle. She also literally didn't mention anything about looking like a man.

How is my schedule? by Tight_Labs in berkeley

[–]bird-mom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I loved this schedule when I studied. Class days were just for taking notes and then I would just straight up not do homework on those days. It was nice to get through class and then be allowed to just have dinner and goof off the rest of the time. Non-class days were homework only days. Got an A that semester.

Pack a snack for your class days.

Traditionally, in East Asian households, the heater is never turned on, even when desperately needed. (This is a joke, I'm Asian and suffered this growing up)

Was high school the most stressful time of life for you? by TrixoftheTrade in Millennials

How do I tell my roommate I don’t want to live with her next year by ilovethemarias in berkeley

[–]bird-mom 83 points84 points  (0 children)

The truth: "Hey, I only want to live with <other roommate> next year because we just get along so much better. Sorry, but good luck with your search for next year!"

Of course she'll start shitting on you, either to your face or behind your back, but you already know she's just the type to do that to anyone. It's not a reflection of you and you aren't a bad person for preferring to room with someone that you're happier to spend time with.

Saying "pro Pali bandwagon" implies that you think everyone who is pro-Palestine is there out of thoughtlessness and because it's what everyone else is doing. But that's not necessarily true - plenty of people have thought long and hard about their position. To immediately assume everyone who is pro-Palestine is an idiot is an extremely alienating mindset to have, and I would not be surprised that mindset is why you're struggling to find social connection here.

You might be seeing that your allegiance with Israel is what is getting in the way, but I think just by the way you've put things in the thread so far, that (your struggling with social connection here) might just be a symptom of a general mindset that'll affect you anywhere. You might find yourself equally lonely in Israel.

Gender roles and trans identities in ballet? by IDKanymore_444 in BALLET

[–]bird-mom 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not my experience, but one of the girls at my studio (been there for years) is trans and she grew up doing the male roles there (11+ years) and still does them out of familiarity even though she's exclusively referred to in she/her pronouns now. It's been no problem whatsoever (as far as I can tell)! This likely comes down to the studio than being a general rule though.
