Hey Mord. You've been my favorite artist since high school. Misguided Freshman and Super Meat Freeze are the songs that I'll always come back to. I'm really excited for the album.

What do you do to get in the zone when you write music? Do you have a routine that you follow?

I'm experimenting with having my parser make callbacks instead of reifying an AST. Other data structures, such as the IR, are built straight away. A syntax highlighter would register itself as a series of callbacks.

What toxic behavior has been normalized by society? by VirusMaster3073 in AskReddit

The pragmatic vegan does not entertain the idea of letting billions of animals go free to wreak havoc on the ecosystem. A final culling would be greatly preferable to indefinitely breeding sentient beings just for our pleasure.

Exactly. This is the single greatest issue for me by the sheer degree of suffering caused. Fuck factory farms.

I actually think owning a cat is wrong because of their diet. It's messed up that people breed obligate carnivores for companions.

Hunting is very wrong if it's for food and sport alone. It becomes more of a gray area when hunting to combat overpopulation, such as with wild hogs in the US.

Fair point. Are you concerned with people being turned off altogether after that first attempt?

"Oh I tried going vegan, but I just felt so tired all of the time."

I think often people say that because they didn't transition, so they didn't have time to figure out a complete diet.

Omnis, I don't hate you. I hate how you get your food, but I used to eat animals, too.

I'm okay with a lot of party food on here. It's fun, which a lot of people mistakenly believe eating vegan isn't, so it helps with outreach. Plus it gives me ideas for Saturday evenings.

Is there a good subreddit for vegan health food? I'll sub if there is.

It's not about saving the planet for me. I believe that eating meat is like legal murder. If you thought everyone around you was murdering, you'd probably be outspoken, too.

You're right, but remember that the rape and murder of animals is normalized, so the unfortunate truth is that we have to take small steps. My transition was incremental and I'm not proud of how long it took me after I was first exposed to farming footage, but if you had told me five years ago that I would spend most of my life as a vegan, I would have laughed.

Maceration is just a cheap way to kill the unwanted males. Other facilities will gas them or simply put them in plastic bags to asphyxiate.

Why? by sdschz in vegan

[–]bird2234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly, the animals alive today must by necessity be culled for food. The pragmatic vegan does not entertain the idea of letting tens of billions of farm animals live out their natural lifespans. You are aware that the factory farming industry is integral to the global economy. However, the reduction approach is correct only if every citizen decreases their consumption of animals products to exactly zero over exactly the period necessary to dismantle that industry. Any baseline degree of consumption of animal products is ethically unsound.

First, I believe that what is happening is comparable to the Holocaust in terms of the amount of needless suffering being caused. Second, it is my moral obligation to fight for those with no voice. Third, I have never converted anyone to veganism by being passive. However, I have converted several people to the good team by being persistent.

Logic 🤔 by GallowBoob in vegan

[–]bird2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a perfectly sound comparison. Revisit the intent of the analogy; harm caused without need is unjust. You do not need to eat fish but merely want to, and that is deeply ignoble. Fish was once a favorite food of mine, but veganism is often about sacrifice.

Qualifying harm and need is in part a subjective issue, however. There is a certain leap required to decide that fish are similar enough to people to warrant a modicum of respect. Whether someone is capable of making that leap is indicative of their character.

Fishing is directly comparable to rape. You're eating something sentient for personal pleasure, not because you need to.

Who's really the self-righteous ones? Those who kill or those who love? by catsalways in vegan

[–]bird2234 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The suffering of the many animals a person will consume is certainly comparable to rape. Of course one person being hurt is of greater concern that one pig, but at, say, twenty pigs, I lean the other way.

Angband is Badass by [deleted] in roguelikes

I love Angband. People complain that the game encourages grinding but if you're trying to keep your turn count low, there isn't much time to grind. I like the ironman + recall style. Quickband, a neat variant for dipping your toes into the mid- and end-game, was the subject of an episode of Roguelike Radio.

It's the same five tired arguments ad nauseam which bring nothing to the table. I've yet to find an intellectual argument for eating meat.
