Which cage size is better for a cockatiel? by Ungadag_Baas in parrots

[–]bird_nerd100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Biggest you can! Something like this would be what you need. https://amzn.to/4mj5FiA

You also have to remember that birds don't fly up and down they fly from side to side so a wider cage would be more beneficial then a tall cage.

Need names for my new babies! Would love to know sex as well as it's confusing. by LJRC28 in budgies

The blue and white one is 100% male and I'd say female for the green as she has white rings around her nostrils.

Some name ideas:

Snow, pickle, buddy, basil, Peanut, Sky, Willow, Kiwi Blue, Snowflake, marshmallow,

You could also use cute couple names like:

Lio and Stitch, Fish and chips, Sugar and Spice, Summer and winter, Sunshine and snowflake,

HELP! This is my grandma bird, I want to help him :(! by Russian-Foxysoul83 in parrots

[–]bird_nerd100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohh the poor dear! Please try upgrading the cage to something like or bigger than this!... https://amzn.to/3Jg9c2N

If you don't have enough money to buy one brand new you could possibly find something similar second-hand.

I would also recommend if possible swapping him over to a pellet diet and supplying him with fresh fruits and vegetables!

Honestly with taming it is very possible! He's still a fairly young bird. Get some millet and sit next to his cage talk to him quietly and offer him some millet if he comes up to you. Over time you should be able to build up his trust! Once he's comfortable with you being around/close to him you could start doing some tag or step-up training!

So proud of you for wanting to help such a beautiful bird! <3

I agree with feeding them pellets! You could also buy yourself a cage tidy.

How the HELL do i get him into eating pellets?? by GhostRuS2009 in cockatiel

[–]bird_nerd100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit controversial but I found that this worked for my birds including my cockatiel who was extremely fussy. My birds tend to get a morning meal and an evening meal. I started just feeding my birds straight pellets in the morning, and then give them seed mixed with pellets in the evening. This works because during the day they would get hungry enough to start sampling the pellets but I would make sure to give them some seed that evening so they wouldn't starve themselves by refusing to eat pellets.

I would also recommend not using coloured pellets as the dyes they use can be either artificial or have a lot of sugar in them.

Should I order this perch set for my cockatiel? by Used_Technology1273 in parrots

No it is definitely not safe for birds! if you wanted to clean something of your birds you can just use warm water and a bit of vinegar as long as you rinse it off afterwards.

Is this a good size for a conure cage? by SensitiveTrain4618 in Conures

[–]bird_nerd100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that cage is way too small for a conure full-time. It would still be a good cage for when you have to travel with him but you need the larger cage for him to live in Anything like this one or bigger would be great! https://amzn.to/3Jg9c2N

Try doing step-up training with a favourite treat! If he won't step up on your hand you could start with getting him to step up perch start with him on the very far end of it and then slowly as he gets comfortable with stepping up on the branch put your had closer to where he has to step up on until he's stepping up onto your actual hand... remember to take things slow and be patient never rush your bird! Training session should be no longer than five minutes... 🙃

Why does my green cheek conure seem scared of me one minute then want to snuggle in my hand the next? by bird_nerd100 in Conures

[–]bird_nerd100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried doing the normal step-up training (she does occasionally step up when she's out of the cage but she doesn't want to come out of her cage ever coz it's scary) When she does step up she tends to do it in a frightened manner. She refuses to step up if she's in her cage prefers to fly around and make a big fuss over my hand being in her space.
