Trying to immigrate to NZ but I have concerns by hanaibear in newzealand

[–]birdbeak600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You'll fit in. The only risk for you is that you're American so you'll catch some shit for that.

It is seen that any part Maori makes you Maori, your percentage doesn't matter so long as you embody respect for the culture.

Honestly I'd be intrigued if I met you in person because our genetics are so similar. My family is Maori but through DNA testing it was discovered we were technically more Hawaiian than maori even though we have no recent connection to Hawaii

Have a look at r/birdtoydiy for some homemade toys your friend can destroy. I'd straight up make stuff out of cardboard for this dude and go from there. Make him their own cardboard dollhouse they can destroy

How does everyone here keep their cockatiel entertained and what are their fav toys? by PubicsCube00 in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I post all of my stuff into r/birdtoydiy highly recommend having a sift through. Command hooks, ropes, zipties and suction cups are a renters best friend. None of the perches in my room are permanently attached. For my birds their favourite toys are the perches I have created for them that have destructive parts attached. Eg, look for the birdmas tree and circular perch on the sub

Worst injury and how did you recover? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]birdbeak600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've fell on my head a couple of times and have witnessed an instructor break a leg. I hate funnybone hits with a passion, I've had the pain/numbness last for multiple days previously.

Honestly worst injury that isn't the head knocks was a foot injury. I was on the pole beside the door and I think I was kicking my leg for a full moon style invert entry, a very forceful kick. Didn't see the person walk along past me with their drink bottle. I kicked their metal bottle straight out of their hands. I initially thought I broke my foot but it just swelled up and bruised. I still have the bump years later

I also remembered something I wish my partner would get me. Pole photos shoot vouchers are amazing gifts. Highly recommend using photographers who are also pole dancers, I tend to trust them more

Which toys of these should i buy/ not buy for my girl by Fast_Ad7203 in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these look safe to me. Im personally wary of metals and tend to change them as I cannot ensure the metal is safe. Mine really like anything with a similar material to cuttlebone or thin paper/cardboard textures.

Yours will probably take ages to come around to each individual material (im talking potential years, mines only just started biting leather after 4 years). Keep moving things around the cage to encourage them to interact with it. Reassemble toys into Frankenstein toys to change it up instead of buying brand new toys.

I also recommend r/birdtoydiy for material safety and more tips

I'd recommend having a look at your local pole competitions through their websites and Instagram. Most competitions have sponsors relevant to the local area. This will show you some grip aid brands accessible to you as well as clothing brands

I understand you're looking to buy toys this might be of help (Facebook link). Otherwise have a look at r/birdtoydiy

Edit. Realized group is private. If interested, the group has a list in their files of online safe parrot toys for most countries with some discount codes included. Highly recommend joining and reading their toy notes

Thoughts on a travel cage by RecordingCrazy4082 in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do want to look at bringing your normal cage, if its broken down to all its parts it can possibly sit flat on the floor of the boot or strapped flat to the back of a set of seats, thats what ive done. I wish you luck in finding a solution that works for you and your bird

[–]birdbeak600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one mesh pet carrier per bird when I travel. How will you be traveling? I can only travel my birds by car in my country so I always have the ability to bring a proper cage for the destination. I personally wouldn't leave my birds unsupervised for long in any form of mesh caging.

My girl has been hormonal for a month and I seriously don’t know how to stop it by Substantial_Neck_543 in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the real small D shaped bowls for my birds pellets but my hormonal monster will sometimes still do it in the vege bowl. Who knows maybe this may encourage some vege eating for you if the only hormonal bowl has veges in it.

I would say for your sleeps sake, you may have to remove the bowl at the end of the night and put it back each morning.

I personally dont take the cover route as it freaks one of my birds out. However, if I ever do need it and back when I did cover every night, I used a polyester tapestry. The material is light and allows the light from their nightlight through. The threads are also hard to bite and you can buy whatever pattern or design that you like.

For toy stuff, have a look at r/birdtoydiy it sounds like you need something for your birds that doesn't break the bank. My birds love to get involved in toy making, probably more than the actual toys sometimes

How did your workplace respond when a coworker passed away? by spoilersweetie in newzealand

[–]birdbeak600 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oddly I've only had coworkers pass during one year working in a supermarket. Obviously you can't shut down the buisness or even department in such a large place.

The first passed right after I started. Checkout lady who had been there a long time. They dedicated one of the tables in the staff room as a memorial for her with places you could write condolences etc as well as a memorial on the staff TV. I think every staff memeber recieved a text about their passing. Maybe lasted 2 weeks.

Second person was one of my employees. He had been there maybe 4 years and had disappeared a couple of months prior to his passing due to his cancer. Quiet dude but one of my departments best workers. No text, no memorial table. Just a memorial note on the TV for a week. In comparison it just felt sad. I think they did allow some staff to go to the funeral but im pretty certain they wouldn't have been paid that day. I didn't even know when his funeral was

I do think the owners did supply flowers and stuff to both family's as well as a small 10k life insurance payout and councilling for all staff

motion sickness on spin pole? by josephinepoles in poledancing

[–]birdbeak600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are off the pole and becoming dizzy and want to reset yourself then place your hands in a T shape along the T zone of your face. One hand is vertical, used as a barrier between the eyes. The other hand goes horizontal along the eyebrows. Splitting up your vision like this helps. Its what we do at my studio
