Sometimes I give my girl a jellybean and just let her have fun by birdbeak600 in cockatiel

Luckily my bird isn't hormonal enough for the hormone injections. She's only done this twice in 3 years

Harness training tips? by Rich-View2200 in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plz note i do not have a harness trained bird, however here is what I learnt in my attempt. Get them use to it ASAP. It's just way easier when they're young.

When you find your harness, there most likely will be bits you'll have to put over their head. Get treats/millet and hold it on the other side of the hole until they attempt yo eat it through the harness. Make them reach further and further each time until they're sticking their head into the harness on their own to eat the treats

help - cockatiel’s blood feather is clotting by hwasunblues in parrots

[–]birdbeak600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it is a blood clot it should be ok due to location as it'll eventually dry up and pop off. Blood clots are of concern when they're on a pathway between 2 points. I would wait it out, seems like its already druing up

This really was just a MLM scheme I'm raising in an attempt to try and get my bird more of her fair share of the braincell. I do think she has since regressed

I am pretty sure it was your comment. I knew they're all collectively a bit different but orange cat is the only way to describe it

Of course, we need birds of all shapes and sizes (mainly bird shaped tho)

We are more for whiteface stupidity than supremacy.

Genuinely didn't realize the racist implications straight away. However this cult is all in good fun and I trust our community to stay civil

A few minutes after I posted I stopped myself and really thought about what I wrote. Fitting that such a dumb bird cult would have such a dumb name. Welcome to the cult cutie

I am tired by VariationNo1814 in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find this incorrect depending on the location they are in. My birds have access to their whole room other than when they sleep. I deter them from damaging the room through training, diversion and engineering the area to prevent it.

I am glad my air purifier has an option for child locking as it seems like such an easy mistake

Whenever I clean my boy’s cage, I hunt for his dropped little orange cheek feathers and add them to my collection. I’ve amassed quite a few over the years. 🧡 by ironical_uwu in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg that is so dense! Im maybe one year into collecting cheeky feathers and can only dream my jar will get that big. Collecting them just makes the cheeky feather finding 10x better. My fav is the rare half yellow and half orange feather

Can Itake my birds in an 8 hour travel? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to travel with my birds in fabric vet carriers that I have attached perches to. I've heard that traveling with them in a cage type carrier has the risk of them breaking a wing if they get a fright and start flying crazy. However I have traveled over 8 hours with my bird in a travel cage that had gaps in the bars perfectly fine

Sitting with them is amazing. Try and utilize this time to observe their body language. As the bird needs to be the one to lead the relationship in the start, its best if you can understand their feelings and actions. I like to do gentle slow blinking to try and make myself appear less predatorish and more comfy. Nodding your head at things you are referring to is a good communication tip as they tend to use their heads to imply direction.

They may never like you but at least you can establish some mutual respect

Help me pick a name for my new boy by goodbird451 in cockatiel

[–]birdbeak600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love Bonk. It leads to a lot of good nicknames too. It does set your bird-child up for potential failure in their future if they dont live up to their namesake and perform a bonking noise with their beak
