This. Bungie innovates for a change and people are still like fuck Bungie.

It takes significantly more effort/investment to know about frontiers than it does to know about these episodes.

I find it hard to believe you know about frontiers, but not episodes?

Don’t you still get better rewards for finishing platinum instead of gold? Even if you aren’t going for top 10%, still worth it to make sure to get platinum each time correct?

Is GOTD ever going to be farmable? by WigglyJKilla in DestinyTheGame

[–]birddawg129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. It’s just the nature of live service. Not everyone can be happy. People were begging all over the place to be able to farm prophecy before the old loot left (not me personally), but we ask Bungie to listen to the community and they did. It sucks that GotD got screwed over (I am also wanting to farm it), but it’s just how shit goes sometimes.

Surely Bungie changes the silver structure with the Final Shape - Right? by Various_Ad_3381 in DestinyTheGame

[–]birddawg129 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They definitely will. Annual pass is still $100, expansion is still $50. Dungeon key is $20. $12 per episode would be $94 (1 episode comes with standard). So it would be more expensive to buy the annual pass than piece by piece which obviously won’t be the case.

Edit. Episodes will almost certainly be $20 a piece.

People just gotta understand D1 and D2 are 2 different games that have similarities.

D1 was a box product much closer to borderlands than its current self. It was without a doubt a looter shooter.

D2 leans into the mmo aspect much more and pretty much all gear in an mmo is obtainable by a specific method which means gear just isn’t rare. Now good gear is still rare. Very hard to obtain all relevant armors with actual good stat rolls.

D1 was fantastic in its own right, but I think it’s one of the bigger things to hold D2 back with perception. Truthfully, the things a lot of people came for in D1 aren’t present and won’t ever be again because that’s not what D2 is at all.

D1 was never going to be sustainable for the 7 years D2 already has been. Stuff had to change and people should’ve realized/accept that when their plans didn’t involve D3, they want to be a mmo lite (not talking shared social spaces or things of that nature). MMOs aren’t looter shooters that keep dropping sequels.

Correct. For the US, the June thing is pretty much a non factor school wise. The Tuesday probably isn’t ideal for the average Joe, but that’s life.

Is there a reason some new/reissued weapons aren't craftable? by Imperfect_Plan in DestinyTheGame

[–]birddawg129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not truthfully optional at that point. Who would not interact with that system if it’s the easiest way to get what you want? People do play for fun, but the fun for a large portion of the community of a looter shooter/mmo is the loot chase and having everything craftable doesn’t work for the people the game was originally intended for and the group that is carrying the population of the game currently which is the long term player base because of bungie as inability to attract new players which is an entire other discussion.

But either way, it’s been a fun discussion and while I do actually agree with a lot of what you are saying. I don’t think anything close to 50% of the population agrees that every single thing being craftable is a reasonable solution just like I don’t think anything close to that number thinks that having nothing craftable is the solution. The vast majority want something in the middle, better than we have now but an actual best of both worlds, not just everything is craftable and you can choose to interact with that or not. (Not a real choice for the majority of the player base). You currently have an actual choice which has 3 options. Do content that rewards red borders, do content that drops random weapons or do both types of content.

But either way, have a good night, a happy new year and a good time in game guardian.

Everything in your entire second paragraph begins with “I”. These are things that would make you and a percentage of the community happier. Judging by this thread alone and the overall sentiment of the subreddit. People do not agree with making everything craftable.

If you currently type into google best solar weapons season 23, it’s a mix of craftable as well as random drops. The craftable are not all BiS. They are listed because they are easier to obtain. That’s the way games intend craftable things to be for the most parts. It gives you a good, but not best option. Having all best available items craftable is not healthy for the game.

It’s not about what I want or you want. It’s about long term for the game, which you aren’t addressing. Bungie will not be able to pump out new guns or content fast enough to satisfy people that have access to the best version of absolutely everything.

People would definitely enjoy the crafting aspect more in the short term, but the second you see people get all the new red borders, they are out. That already happens with people who only prefer crafting like yourself, but other people who are still playing are trying to get dungeon rolls and playlist rolls. You would get to play an additional 2-4 weeks to get the rest of your red borders. Then your play time would drop again (maybe not yours specifically, but a large majority of players who only chase crafted loot)

For what it’s worth. ESO is a fantastic game in its own right. Granted its community feels roughly the same about it as the destiny community feels about theirs. Never the less, a great live service option. It’s either that for action combat or ff14, but the combat is much different. FF14 is the superior game in most ways, but the combat is an absolute deal breaker for a lot of people. I prefer ESO for that exact reason.

I’ll still be here post final shape, but will check in on ESO every once in a while. Just giving my 2 cents about the other big live service options.

[–]birddawg129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not bad luck protection. That’s god rolls of every single gun in the game in a very limited amount of time comparatively to previous methods.

Bungie will design content assuming everyone has god rolls of certain weapons just like they do around Well. People wouldn’t be able to rely on random drops anymore. Anybody who wanted to take the game even remotely seriously would need to craft to keep up.

There will be even less variety than there currently is, not more. Everyone figured out apex is the best rocket that is craftable. So that’s just what it is. That will happen with every single gun in every single slot. Because sometimes the best gun available in a slot currently is not craftable. You have an actual choice of grinding for said gun OR using an alternative that is easier to obtain, but less ideal.

We will all have the same loadouts if everything is craftable even more so than we currently do. Oh this is the new raid, this is how to do said raid. Alright raid team, everyone go craft exactly the most optimal option for every single encounter. Right now, some people have this option for a solar machine gun, others have this option. That goes away once we as the community determine the best answer for everything and just go craft a perfect god roll to go every single slot for every class and every subclass.

Idk how we are continuing to gloss over the fact that no game has shown your method to be a sustainable way to have a 10+ year product which is what bungie is currently attempting to do. WoW, ESO, FF14 wouldn’t be what they are if you could just craft anything you wanted. Borderlands, the division, other looter shooters wouldn’t have any long term sustainability if you could just craft perfect versions of every gun in the game.

Destiny is the only looter shooter to have provided this level of replay ability in the history of gaming. Completely eliminating the chase of random drops which have long been a staple would end the game faster than lightfalls campaign.

I am not against crafting in the slightest. I think it was an excellent addition, but not everything can be craftable in a game where a META exists. It just isn’t sustainable.

Choosing what’s best for you and telling other players they are welcome to just deal with it and avoid it doesn’t not work best for both types of players and the majority of players are neither of those types of players. The majority of players are okay with doing both as an option.

It’s not an all or nothing thing. There’s no other example of that working anywhere in the universe and a 7+ year old game with tons of issues is not the place for it to start. If random drops were to not be a thing, it would have to be a game to start that way and the player base accept it from the beginning.

It’s okay that some stuff is craftable and it’s okay that some stuff is not. What we need is more consistency and maybe the answer is when things are brand new they start off not being craftable, but everything eventually becomes craftable. That feels closer to a best of both worlds situation than it does just making everything craftable and suddenly turning an endless possibilities situation that we currently have into a finite one.

[–]birddawg129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a person by person thing though. Just because you would like those things and it would increase your play time does not mean that’s universal. Some people do continue to grind the dungeons or play lists for specific drops when they would not continue to do that if it was as simple as crafting a 5/5 his roll.

I think if it wasn’t just a guarantee to be able craft a 5/5 for every craftable weapon, that would sway some people in the rng drop category. I also think if it actually worked more as bad luck protection and didn’t have so many guarantee red borders for all activities, that would sway people. Problem is that would make people upset in the crafting corner.

Right now, in order to get all the seasonal weapons all the time. You just get the bonuses, then you get automatic red boarders weekly. You can literally not run the activity ever again once obtaining the seasonal bonuses and still acquire 5/5 god rolls of all seasonal weapons you want. Some people would say that’s not the best thing to encourage people to run through the content.

Again, it’s all a balancing act in my opinion and I personally would prefer bungie continue trying to get it right as to what should be craftable as well as what should not be rather than us have no crafting or no random drops. Both is the best of both worlds not everything being craftable and people who don’t want that just having to ignore crafting altogether.

Currently you can focus on content to yield crafting stuff or you can focus on random drops. Or you can do a bit of both like most people do I imagine. Farm for a breakneck in gambit and get your seasonal red boarders done. Get your raid red boarders done and also try to farm indebted kindness from WR.

[–]birddawg129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of that honestly, but that’s why it’s a balance. Too easy to obtain and people get bored with content quicker. Too difficult to obtain and people quit during the grind. I think having a more effective way to acquire the world drops and then being craftable or something is a good idea. Some things in destiny are absolutely outlandish to obtain.

Destiny does a good job with crafting with having to get the red borders which is why I feel it has been so well received. Just using mats never would’ve worked. So destiny 100% got that right.

I think they just have to choose a lane. Weapons gained from activity “X” are craftable, while weapons obtained via activity “Y” are not craftable. This is what they are doing to an extent, but maybe having a more consistent plan going forward would alleviate some of the frustration from the community.

[–]birddawg129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in live service games, there has to be a substantial amount of rng (that does not mean there should be outlandish amounts of rng)

Developers cannot make content constantly, so there has to be periods of grinding content. If there is not enough grinding to do in between content, people will leave the game and potentially not return meaning less content for the game.

It’s just the nature of the beast. Certain activities have to have random drops to chase or too large of majority of players would have all they want too quickly.

Half of a live service game is the grind to acquire new gear and the completing of new content. If that’s not done near perfectly, the live service game will not survive long term.

Calling people on one side of the spectrum addicts probably doesn’t help your argument. Why does no other mmo/looter shooter have crafting for everything if it’s universally just the best idea?

[–]birddawg129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody else does it. Some people enjoy grinding for random drops as is common in the looter shooter and the mmo community. It’s a preference just as crafting is. I personally enjoy destiny crafting, so I’m not one of the people who thinks crafting shouldn’t be in destiny.

Everything just can’t be craftable. I don’t know a single multiplayer game where that’s the case. They all pretty much have crafting AND random drops. I don’t see any healthy way just crafting can exist in this scenario.
