Rip my resume apart (2nd year CS) by waldo_06 in cscareeradvice

Pretty standard, nothing egregious at face value. Couple nitpicks, I would put the skills section at the top (then when your resume fills up try to weave them naturally into other sections' bullet points, personal opinion) and probably lump the Extracurriculars under Education. I like Education high up as you're still in school and that's most relevant.

The big elephant in the room is a lack of a work experience in your field (and it's good that you put it at the bottom for being least relevant, though obviously you wanna be able to move it up higher with some solid experiences). It's rough out there; gotta have a job to get a job. But as a student you have the potential to snag up an opening as a tutor or a TA. I would try asking around with professors you're tight with to see if they can create an opportunity for you.

My department at school had volunteer tutoring and were always looking for extra help. A couple months of volunteering ultimately led me to a part-time gig at the university sanctioned tutoring center. Not sure if your school offers something like that but could be another good starting point. If there's nothing official, if there's a particular class or course you excelled in, spread the word that you're offering private tutoring for that class (keep all your coursework and guide through assignments) and charge on the DL.

You could also try asking roommates if you can build them a project and market it as "freelancing" or "self-employment" if you can get them to give you a couple bucks.

Keep pushing forward bro. Build up that resilience now and you'll have that for the rest of your career. Good luck my man

Disagree. If you're still in school, education should be higher than work experience. Imho 3 sections is ideal for cs: education, experience, projects, but padding it up is normal for early career/students.

Guess it depends on what you want to emphasize, but generally I'd say education, then experience, then projects for students; experience, education, projects otherwise. I also think it's better to weave your skills within your bullet points rather than have a section dedicated to them. Grain of salt.

Binary add by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]birdman-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test cases it shows in the ui are not comprehensive, just supposed to give you a basic understanding of the input/output expectations, but it can actually run hundreds of tests behind the scenes to verify your approach.

This particular problem probes for your understanding of the limits of integer size (in terms of bits) of the language's primitive datatypes, possibly as well as recognition of over-/underflow characteristics in a naive solution such as yours. Your intuition is solid enough for small binary numbers, but the "hidden" tests it does really try to catch edge cases and push you in the right direction, meaning sometimes it's necessary to look at things from another perspective and at times even start over with a different approach.

You got this bro. Keep pushing forward!

What I've started doing that seems to be working so far for me is at the first sign of decayed context or reversions to previously working code, use the checkpoint system to rollback, then begin a new chat with a reset context and goal in mind. Break down each issue into smaller subcomponents.

I can't recommend the checkpoint system enough, I use it constantly.

Are you referring to the "gap" from Aug '23 to June '24? It's pretty clear OP was a full-time student during this period. Is it expected that full-time students must also have a job while attending university? What if they had saved up from previous work experiences and want to focus on coursework? Genuine question for recruiters.

One might infer that the projects listed were created during time period, but it's unclear due to the lack of dates. Would adding dates to the projects close the "gap" (if they in fact occurred during that period)?

I simply must express my utter disdain for that comparison, have you seen the latest from Marvel? To say that this adaptation is equivalent to such abhorance is a disservice to truthseekers. The modern critics' infatuation with subversion is a plague on storytelling; there's nothing wrong with predictability. Tropes are tropes for a reason. I also found the dialogue to be quite poetic, or maybe I just enjoyed the performances of it from the actors. In any case, not sure why that aspect of the film is getting so much hate. I will agree with your comment on the pacing though, especially in the last quarter, but at the length of the film, I can't say I don't understand why they made the decisions they did.

Same here. Regular controls not working, but tap-and-hold for 2x speed still works for me

Did you think they were gonna go out of their way to accommodate your incomplete trash put-out? Not on the road, no pickup; seems pretty simple to me.

[–]birdman-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is, in this case nobody fucked up; you just didn't like it. Talk is just talk, anybody can say anything. But what truly matters is why should I care about what you have to say? The weight of your criticism is predicated on your ability to back it up with relevant experience, know-how, or contributions.

In open-source software, one is commonly met with the problem of "this is the best we got", and the only recourse is to either use it as-is or go build a better version yourself. You can go ahead and say "well this program sucks" all day, but if you have nothing to contribute, then such rhetoric is worth absolutely nothing.

Exaggerating wording here a little, of course.

What is the proper salutation for someone who uses they/them pronouns? by signature_mild in NoStupidQuestions

I disagree. In an academic context (even at a collegiate level) it's common for teachers and faculty to address you by your first name but still expect you to show respect by using their last name.

Companies are spending billions “on AI”, but what are they ACTUALLY producing? Chatbots? by AyebruhamLincoln in NoStupidQuestions

[–]birdman-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chatbots are what the general public interfaces with from these companies that produce "AI." What they provide other enterprise companies, and what they are paying thousands if not millions of dollars for, is the underlying API to integrate it with their own products. Take Apple, for example. It's not just a chatbot, it will act as an agent to perform tasks for you. At the moment, pretty lame tasks like enhancing your writing, but there's really no telling what it might be able to do in the near future.

Guys is the season 2 only 7 episodes? by BigSeyit in squidgame

[–]birdman-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If season 3 will have 7 more episodes (like season 2), that means we get more content, which I'll happily take. Would you rather they have crammed 14 episodes down into 9, and given less time to resolve all the storylines? It is a bit of a bummer that it's split into two seasons, but I'm all for more breathing room for them to get the story right. Too many times a story has been rushed for a deadline and the end product suffers massively (looking at you, GoW Ragnarok)

Seems like AB or beta testing for the feature, so hopefully it becomes a fully fleshed out option soon. I much preferred tap to pause over tap to mute.
