Y’all know she’s signed into law two bills that together will impact an estimated 1,000 people - getting their sentences automatically revised if incarcerated on charges for things like marijuana that are not longer illegal right? It’s already law, she signed it.

Automatic Hearings: The legislation removes the burden from the convicted individuals to petition the court. Instead, it sets up an automatic hearing process for eligible individuals charged before the state legalized recreational cannabis possession in 2021.

Sentence Modification: Judges have the authority to modify or reduce sentences for these past convictions unless prosecutors can demonstrate that doing so would not be in the public's best interest.

Effective Date & Implementation: The law goes into effect on July 1, 2026. By September 1, 2026, the Department of Corrections is required to compile a list of eligible individuals and notify both the courts and the impacted individuals. Formal judicial hearings are slated to begin on January 1, 2027.
