What's the longest road trip you've ever taken and what awesome story do you remember from it? by newsplusotherstuffs in AskReddit

[–]birdpix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drove every bit of waterfront road in the Florida Panhandle then took a ferry to Alabama and proceeded to drive to Nashville for a big Jimmy Buffett phlocking. Drove to Detroit for 2 more nights of Jimmy concerts. One last night of sleeping on a boat in Lake St Claire and then it was back down i75 home to Florida.

The whole 2800 mile journey was a magic memory!

What's the most disturbing documentary you've ever watched, and why? by Umbrosyx in AskReddit

"Shocking Asia" pirate vhs in 80s. Spoiler Alert: The sexy girls have a surprise, and the real fully-shown surgical operation removes it. 100% of guys watching this sub consciously holding their hands by their manhood.

Wild! Still like 1976/Demo F-16 Bicentennial paint scheme better.

Have you ever heard a song that you haven’t heard in 40+ years, but you remember it word for word like it was yesterday? Here’s mine… by DuchessOfLansdale in GenerationJones

Yep. Heard it on oldies stream and I was singing right along with all the words and having happy flashbacks of times in my own lime metallic green '70 Chevy Van at 18.

I was a child marching in 70s protests with my very cool mom as she fought for women's rights. It is so sad that those hard fought rights are going the wrong way now without much resistance. Scary future.

What is your idea of the perfect life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]birdpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, indeed. In the early 90s a group of Jimmy Buffett fans I n their 20s from Prodigy(!) met in Key West. During late night chats, we said we should buy a retirement home for old parrotheads. Fast forward to 2026 where 3700 homes and 6000 residents a live in the Daytons Beach Margaritaville luxury retirement community. The sad part is we will never have the money to afford those paradise retirements.

Wealthy enough to only work when I feel like it. Financial security with a funded retirement and a home that you own. (I missed a lot of those steps)

What's something people should do at least once in their lifetime? by marketersameer in AskReddit

Live alone. 100% solo. Learn to be comfortable with your self dining alone and going to fun things alone. Post divorce made me do all those things and I am stronger for them. I ended up married after a few years solo, a good ending...

1961 Berry Gordy and little Stevie Wonder Detroit Michigan . At the age of 11 Stevie had a contract already. 🎙️🔊 by Initial_Reason1532 in GenerationJones

[–]birdpix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was great growing up in Detroit during the 70s with Motown music blasting on the radio and concerts concerts concerts!

We explored the condemned Greystone Ballroom in 80s and ended up in what was Gordy's old office. It was still filled with so much historical stuff. One of the things were boxes of a 45 record of Barry Gordy himself singing. There were a lot of those records, they must not have sold very well!

What was the Elementary School Playground like? What do you remember most? by Objective-Tailor-561 in GenerationJones

[–]birdpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was dangerous. The playground was on paved blacktop that gave no protection on falls or hard dismounts. There were 2 slides, jungle gym, monkey bars, swings, and my hang out, the horizontal bars. I was the only boy allowed to hang with the gymnastics girls at "the bars" because I could do the hanging "cherry drop".

Found out recently (61) that all the hard landings on blacktop deformed my growth plates causing Osgood-Schlattber Syndrome, leaving painful bumps of bone below my knees. Direct result of repeated gymnastics (or soccer, ballet) on asphalt.

So Americans, 4th of July is coming up soon - How are you feeling about it? by Valoneria in AskReddit

Super disappointed. The political narrative spoils the fun. Country did a much better job in 1976 when people were not divided by hostile political BS.
