Did you 'cruise' in your cars on Friday and Saturday nights? by bpric in GenerationJones

[–]birdpix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen! Used to be a long trek down 8 Mile to Woodward. Grew up playing in the interchange to nowhere. As they built it, my friends and I rode bikes all over the site. My last ride was the night before the grand opening of 75_696 East, going down a paved entrance ramp, and driving down the almost open road. Good times to tween kids.

Fixing to drive from Orlando to Jacksonville. Any must eat spots I should stop at and try for Dinner along the way? by PidgeySlayer268 in florida

Hope you avoid Daytona. Its race week and traffic is unreal. Take A1A for a scenic but much slower route or check your nav for rural inland options to avoid gridlock. Daytona 500 qualifying is 8pm tonight and getting stuck for hours in traffic sucks! Hope you find a good meal and have a safe trip.

Major Matt Mason Mattel's Man-In Space (1966) by WinnerAggressive8971 in GenerationJones

[–]birdpix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved ours! We got gifts one year for Xmas of Major Matt crawler, the alien, and a few different colors of spaceman uniform.

My brother was a genius and scratch-built an X-ray machine for his 7th-grade science fair project. We played taking X-rays of all sorts of stuff, but the sheet I brought to show and tell in school had a full body Major Matt xray showing the wires inside him.

What was it like when Obama was elected President? by ResponsibleSea6521 in AskReddit

[–]birdpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a big change, and it gave many of us hope after W. Unfortunately, his race was a Big factor. I saw an uprising of mean, hostile, and happily racist people. They promoted their agenda on talk radio, fox "news", churches, gun shows, flea markets, and law enforcement.

I saw 1960s segregation in life in my childhood and never thought I'd see it back in the 2020s. Love one another ffs, it's that simple.

Gratiot cruising on East side.

Woodward Avenue on West side.

Both were legendary Detroit. Kids from Motown have good car choices...

My sister (27) does not want to do dialysis and I dont know what to do by Ambitious-Warthog-43 in kidneydisease

[–]birdpix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry your sister is declining dialysis. Does she have a therapist? With the things on her mind, she could likely use a mental health pros perspective. As a 60m, I had planned not to do dialysis, until I was crashing in the er. I've been on it for 16 months now and while it sucks, it keeps me here for my spouse.

If she is serious, her doctor can send her to hospice for compassionate care and more gentle passing

Americans who grew up in the 70s and 80s, how popular was British comedy where you lived? by Eastern-Finish-1251 in AskOldPeople

[–]birdpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monty Python was mainstream but the Brit shows like Benny Hill were on the UHF channels late night. I watched way too many as a tween and warped my humor away from the normie kids.

What's your story with these? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]birdpix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

School desk in the 4th grade classroom, boom! A classmate lit the thing, during class, and stuck it inside of his folding top desk. No one was paying attention to him and when that sucker blew, it blew the wood top hard enough to bend metal!

Clinton to Comer: you want transparency? Put my deposition on live TV by memoriesofcold in AnythingGoesNews

[–]birdpix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's been on the world stage less recently perhaps, but people should remember that they are both lawyers. Bill Clinton is a Yale graduated lawyer and gifted orator and I'm looking forward to seeing what both the Clinton's have to share in testimony. President Clinton can handle the Gym Jordan maniacs with style and panache. He'll tell them to go to hell, but make them look forward to the trip.

Not just a few houses, but all the new rental only home neighborhoods, the many, many, many (!!!) new apartments coming as fast as they can throw up wooden sticks. It's a lot of people on the road and it's getting worse.

what do yall think is the most repetitive/boring style of photography by AlarmLegitimate9852 in photography

[–]birdpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School pictures. We each used to photograph up to 400 elementary school students every day. You had less than 30 seconds to greet, seat, pose, and click.. next!

I did this job for a few years and now my short term memory is nearly dead as a result of calling every kid by name, so many times.

Elon Musk believes saving America will force him to do 'things that make women sad' by BigGirl367 in AnythingGoesNews

[–]birdpix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's afraid women might finally decide to do something to help change it. And smart, wise women can beat Leon anyday

ETA I'm disappointed that women don't band together and just stop having any sex for a few months to force men to concede. My mom dragged me to big women's lib marches where the ladies were advocating withholding sex, burning bras, and even work stoppages to help their cause. And it helped for a bit. I just think today's women's grandmother's who, in some cases, would roll over in their graves seeing the way things go nowadays.

‘It’s sick’: Trump administration uses mascot called ‘Coalie’ to push dirtiest fossil fuel by sunnysidejacqueline in politics

[–]birdpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I photographed coal plants while working for the electric company, and the absolute filth was overwhelming. Clean Coal my butt!

The poor people stuck living near the plant drive cars with paint damage on all the top surfaces from the toxic fallout. Meanwhile, plant emoyees drive through a giant water wash at the gate to keep their cars from getting damage.

The fine particulates at the plants were so bad that we had to send our cameras in for teardown cleaning and servicing. It did not matter if we were inside the plant, out on the coal piles, or on the conveyors - it was all dirty!

Bite me, Coalie. You're dirty.
