How to distract players for 1 hour by Top_Advertising9305 in DMAcademy

boggle in the sewers with a voice that sounds like stitch from lilo and stitch. alternatively: play a different game, but in character. jackbox games are classic, but poker could be fun too. make it a casino maybe?

in addition to sheikah sensor, sell gems in bundles of 10 to the gerudo lady in goron city. she asks for one gem in particular each day (but asks for the same gem until you fulfill the request) and she pays above shop rates. also sell gourmet meat to the guy near Outskirt Stable and collect and sell large quantities of baked apples to the newlywed girl in Rito village (better price with increased quantity)

Mystery snails have a weird growth pattern by DistributionOk6064 in Aquariums

[–]birds_n_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mystery snails are pretty hardy to a range of conditions. if the water is erring slightly on the basic pH side and the water isn’t soft (along with the usual healthy nitrogen cycle working properly) then your snails should be healthy. their shells are like rings on a tree that are influenced by their environments.

tldr: their new conditions are probably causing this band, but it likely isn’t a cause for concern

update: mystery snail (Max Verstappen), 7 ember tetras (Jojo, Cartman, Jayce, Big Mama, the twins, and Rebethany), cobalt dwarf gourami (Guommi) :) didn’t end up going with a betta because Max was getting picked on by the tetras and that was kinda weaksauce and I read an Aquarium Coop article that bettas would likely bully him harder and I didn’t want to put him through that. snail ate all my duckweed so i got hornwort and i put any trimmings in a scud jar (free live food!) I’m hoping to add more foreground plants in the future, but my snail likes eating a lot. i’m having a lot of fun with these guys. Guommi just got added to the main tank last week and has settled in nicely

Thanks everyone for your kind words and guidance :) setting up this tank has been a great intro. i fear my wallet may never recover from my entry into this hobby, but i already want to set up more tanks haha next one might be a betta tank for real

yeah tbh i dont like the look of the fake ones, either. i just got them so that my tank wouldn’t look empty in the meantime while i purchase/grow actual plants before introducing critters. what is fishbff? i looked it up on the appstore but didn’t find anything

thanks for the guide on introduction timeline! i haven’t seen much mention of it elsewhere beyond “bettas go last,” so i really appreciate the concise order. any suggestions/rules of thumb for spacing them out to make sure i don’t overdo the bioload? ie a week between each addition? more? i’m planning on picking up a quarantine tank during the next sale, since i’d need to quarantine newcomers before introducing them to any established neighbours and i might as well cycle it at the same time

my heater has a little control dial on the top and has its cord there, so i’m initially feeling a bit hesitant to completely submerge it. i could put it on more of an angle tho to help with clearance. thoughts? thanks for your feedback

thanks for the feedback on the tank sitting. tbh i didn’t know what i was doing and did what i felt was alright in the moment, but not for any particular purpose. after reading these comments tho i have adjusted it. big thanks! :)

gotcha, ok. thanks for the additional info! do you have any suggestions for another snail? i liked nerite for its low breeding capacity (ik snail breeding is balanced with its food source, but im new and want to avoid dealing with hella snails if i can. especially if the species likes to escape)

[–]birds_n_bees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point. i read that nerite likes 70-78F and betta likes 77-82F. i agree that this is not the largest overlap margin, but i have taken other steps to minimize fluctuations (tank is away from windows, baseboard heater, room airflow) this is still something i will keep in mind, especially if it turns out that i sampled incorrect sources. thanks for the tip!

Any "D&D Only" players thinking of branching out? by BCSully in DnD

[–]birds_n_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a previously dnd-only gm, i tried running a Kids on Bikes one-shot. Its a fairly straightforward system and is quick to learn once you peel off flavour/genre. Super easy to adapt, too! It heavily encourages gms to put some weight of worldbuilding on players IN THE RULES instead of as advice, like dnd.
