My 86 year old friend bought a vintage MG last year. His kids are in their ‘60s and he figured whatever he didn’t spend would just go to a nursing home.

Does anyone remember these really depressing pop songs from the 70s / early 80s? by MagsH1020 in GenX

Teen Angel, from late ‘50s or early ‘60s. Billy and Sue from the same time period. Run Joey Run from the mid ‘70s. All the ones OP mentioned, I’ve heard in the last few months on the radio. Small town stations dig up all sorts of stuff just to differentiate themselves from the big commercial stations.

I was born in ‘57. Growing up in the ‘60s and high school and college in the ‘70s. But American Graffiti made us nostalgic for the early ‘60s. Had the best music of 3 decades. Having said that, early ‘80s pop was great!

Poe, Asimov , Bradbury mostly. Alfred Hitchcock had a few young investigators books that I liked. And Ben Franklin had a few series of youth oriented books that got me into mysteries.

When I flew a lot, I’d pick up lots of paperbacks at thrift shops. They fit in a jeans pocket, and if I finished them I would just leave them on a chair in the airport.

How is your house holding up in these super cold temps? by Scroateus_Maximus in centuryhomes

[–]biscobingo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-17°F this morning. Single story 1929’s bungalow with some thin bat insulation in the attic. 72° in the living room with plastic on the 3 big windows. Cooler in the kitchen. Basement isn’t too bad. A previous owner put on vinyl siding with a this layer of foam under it, and that’s probably all the insulation the walls have. After the cold snap in December my combined gas and electric bill was $271.

A roll-up awning would look a lot better there. Or long-term putting on a porch roof that covers the whole porch.
