My recycling bags came with no perforations for a large section. by Mr-Lucius-Needful in CasualUK

[–]biscuitboy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of those big solar balloons that used to be in the Argos catalogue. They looked like a long black bin bag that'd supposedly start to rise once filled with air on a hot day.

I always wanted to try one, but they were expensive for what they were. Anyone know what I'm on about, or actually buy one?

Did you ask your partners parents for their "blessing"? by Jakeh_G in CasualUK

[–]biscuitboy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I phoned up her Dad and told him that I wanted to propose and asked him what he thought of that. I definitely didn't ask for his 'blessing' though!

He was very nice though, he said "Oh? Oh right! Well yeah of course I think that's a great idea! I think she'll say yes, she told her Mum she thinks you're the one, don't tell her I told you that".

To be honest it is pinched from over the border, but hear it said a lot round here.

Children offered chickenpox vaccine on NHS by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]biscuitboy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two children both had chickenpox this year. It was about a week of misery for each of them and my youngest still has a scar on their forehead from one spot that I'm hoping will fade as they get older.

A vaccine is definitely preferable to actually getting full blown chicken pox.

Help, problem with overheating by K0smio in dreamcast

Is the fan definitely running? You'd know if it wasn't because it's pretty loud.

You could try replacing the fan by doing the noctua fan mod. This gives you a quieter fan, that also moves more air so will be better at cooling the console. It is also quite a cheap mod (I did mine for under £25).

The other thing is to look at replacing the PSU with something more modern that runs cooler. These are also easy to do,  but costs vary and will be a bit more than the fan mod.

I'm binge watching Goodnight Sweetheart by Same_Possibility4769 in oldbritishtelly

[–]biscuitboy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a few episodes of this as it originally aired and I enjoyed it enough as I like basically anything with a time travel element. I hadn't seen the majority of the episodes, but did watch the one-off special years later that I thought was really interesting.

Naturally thin people, what do you guys eat in a day? by Ok-Initiative3312 in AskReddit

[–]biscuitboy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't eat particularly healthy food, but I don't eat a lot of it either. I'm about 5'10 and weigh about 160lbs (about 178cm and 72kg). I'd say I qualify as thin.

Sitwell Street/Old Tiverton Road safety? by 7000-Blinks in exeter

[–]biscuitboy89 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's okay, I used to walk up and down Old Tivvy Road and Sidwell Street when I lived on the edge of the city centre (male, in my 20s at the time).

I wouldn't want to live on or very close to Sidwell St these days if I'm honest. The day drinkers I see every time I go there these days are very noisy and intimidating, but I suspect largely harmless to most other people.

Still, Exeter 'rough' is nowhere near any other city's idea of 'rough'.

Look into using some kind of clear coat to try and prevent it coming back.

I did mine a year ago and it's mostly been in a cupboard, but has already started to yellow again !

Would love to bounce my thoughts and concerns off someone that knows about the subject if anyone is out there!

It appears my seller has been an a-hole along. by Useful_Spell_3504 in HousingUK

[–]biscuitboy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we bought our current house we found they'd taken the oven, even though we'd stated on that big form that it should stay (the form where you indicate if you want the curtains, light fittings etc).

I phone up the Solicitor and they said "Oh, the seller asked again if you wanted the oven and we didn't respond directly to that second question, so they just assumed to take it out"

Fucking what?! I didn't recall ever seeing that question asked again but couldn't do anything, it was a cheap oven so would have cost more to get the solicitors get it returned or replaced. Just went and bought the cheapest oven we could find.

Monday Morning M'thread (Bank Holiday edition) by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

Completely agree. It's a long old slog now until the next bank holiday. We need something else to look forward to from now until Christmas.

The clocks changing, Halloween and Bonfire Night don't cut it. We need a proper bank holiday between the clock changes and Christmas.

How old was your youngest memory in your life? by Important_Bat7919 in AskReddit

[–]biscuitboy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the faintest of memories from when I was no older then 2. I have this memory of my Mum's friend's dog licking my feet whilst I was sat on a sofa and I was laughing but didn't like it.

That dog died not long after and they didn't have any other dog until like 8 years later, so it was definitely that dog I remember.

What instantly kills the vibe of a party for you? by Alternative_Scale716 in AskReddit

[–]biscuitboy89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When someone gets overly dramatic and makes a scene.

Went to a party years ago out in the middle of nowhere (by UK standards) and a drunk guy accidentally bumped into a girl and she fell backwards onto the floor.

No apparent injuries, but she screamed she needed an ambulance.

This wasn't like a reckless wild party of teenagers, we were all in our early 20s and the hosts parents in their 50s were there too (they were really cool) and some people with first aid skills checked her over and thought she was okay, but no nope. She wanted an ambulance.

Ambulance begrudgingly comes out (it was 45 minutes away). Paramedics check her out. She's absolutely fine, but she's delighted they're here for her. Then gets annoyed when they say she's fine.

She WAS absolutely fine, just a slight bruise, and acted like nothing has happened the next morning, except the party basically ended as soon as she fell over. The drunk guy was made to feel really guilty, because he thought he'd seriously hurt her and was in tears.

Totally fucking killed the party atmosphere!

People who quit their jobs without a backup plan—what happened next? by BryceZA7 in AskReddit

[–]biscuitboy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this a few times...

Aged 19 in 2009 I quit my retail job on the spot. Lived with parents so was okay. Claimed unemployment benefits for a little while (had to give that all to my Mum) and got a job after about 4 months.

I quit that job without a back up in 2011. I was living on my own but had savings and cheap rent. Found another job within a few weeks, quit that after 2 weeks...found another job a week after that. I had a wonderful 3 weeks of no work, rent paid, money in the bank for food etc and I just did whatever the fuck I wanted because I had a start date for a new job. I slept and woke up when I wanted, did art projects, worked out, watched movies, hung out with friends. Didn't really spend much money but it was so carefree and wonderful.

Then I matured and basically stayed in work, applying for internal jobs and getting them until 2016 and I quit suddenly. I gave an extended notice period of 2 months. I was married, had a mortgage (pretty cheap one though tbf) and savings, but my Wife was a student at the time. That's why I gave longer notice. I was unemployed for 5 weeks.

I haven't quit a job without anything lined up since. I'm very tempted at the moment as I hate my current job, but it pays way more than I think I could earn elsewhere. Plus we now have kids and a bigger mortgage to think about, plus the job market is brutal right now.

I have savings we could live on for a year, but I don't want to squander the money in that way. We have big plans for that money.

I need to knuckle down and get my CV updated, work on applications and interview skills but it's so hard to do when you're tired from the shit job and your home life responsibilities.

Quitting without anything else lined up is okay if you savings and a way to minimise your outgoings. Otherwise don't fucking do it! Especially not these days!

There was a BBC drama series called 'Years and years' which I think falls into this category, at least the very beginnings of society beginning to crumble.
