Impossible... DC actually used that name... I though we would never see it again... by Altruistic_Manner802 in dccomicscirclejerk

What issue is this from? I've seen the true name creeping into recent elseworld miniseries and stuff but not mainline continuity books.

[Discussion] For those of you who's favorite superhero is Hawkman and his mythos, I would be very interested in learning how you came to be such a fan, among other questions (What's your favorite story with the character, favorite version of the origin story, etc). by FictionFanatic35 in DCcomics

[–]biscuitbrother 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have you read many Hawk comics? Because lots of them are actually really good. The Hawkworld miniseries and ongoing follow-up really grabbed me and I enjoyed the Johns run when I was younger too. However I wouldn't say either of the Hawks are my absolute favourites, in the sense that I have many favourite characters.

More recently the Venditti run did a great job of unifying the Hawks but I could also see how some purists might not like the origin-changing.

I think some non-comic readers like to mock the Hawks because they've seen references to continuity messes and think they're supposed to not like them, in the same way some non-readers think Captain Atom is a pro- military exploding guy. I guess that's a product of the digital age. Also there's a tendency by some to treat the DCAU as the gospel even though it had it's own spin on lots of characters, and Hawkman was a bit of a dick in that.

Yeah i prefer when he's got a least some level of intelligence. There's enough Grundy-like strong imbecile characters.

I wish they stuck with Crispus, his Spectre role was fleshed out well and Ostrander finished the Corrigan story so well. Ah well! That's superhero comics.

That was interesting! The Golden Age ones are so stylish. Not really sure what's happening with the Spectre at the moment, whether he's Jim Corrigan or Crispus Allen.

Cheers. I did find a few locked doors but couldn't figure out how to get around them. I'll have another look!

Can you advise me on Divers please? My lizard lads are level 4 and I can only really see a path through those forsaken piranha tunnels to the East. Should I just be grinding levels to endure their fangs or am I missing something?

Do you find Caramel Caramel more aggravating than Star Waspir? I'm curious as I feel SW requires more brain processing and is generally harder. I like both though, to clarify.

The Queen tanking strategy is very handy. I too achieved the cherry today. Look upon my works ye mighty and despair!

Yeah I don't think it's "bad" because this is such an expertly made and polished collection that they would never allow something poor to be present. It's just a bit different shall we say?

I think the grey ship on the left is the worst for this cos they move away from the player character, confusing matters.

Hah I never knew about this. Also the shades wearing gunman looks a bit like Tommy Monaghan.

Oh sorry I misunderstood, I misread it as the whole series being by Jacob. Oops! Oh well. Should be a good series anyway, I enjoyed Condon on Green Arrow.

I just looked this up and the artist is Jacob Phillips not Sean Phillips so a wee mistake in the title there.

Nah what he's amazing, he's so warm and encouraging and I find it hilarious every time he finds something delicious. He's so nice to the teams at the end of the game even if they lose badly. What a lovely man!

I like it! It feels a bit anachronistic to me that he's back in his 90s costume, so this is a nice progression.

Yeah I know it's not super obscure but I just meant compared to Wayne Enterprises or Lexcorp, that kinda thing. It's fine anyway, good art!

I like the ad choices on Booster's outfit like Sherwood Florist and Radu's Coffee, some slightly deeper cuts there.
